Abstract

Abstract

This study evaluates the influences of organizational commitment components on job satisfaction and job performance among Islamic boarding school (IBS) teachers. It also aimed to decide the mediating effect of job satisfaction on the relationship between organizational commitment and job performance. This comparative study compares the path coefficient between exogenous and endogenous constructs based on respondents’ countries, Malaysia and Indonesia. Through a simple random sampling, the data were gathered from 247 respondents. The analysis was conducted through partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approaches (measurement model, structural model, and multi-group analysis). The measurement model informed that the obtained data was valid and reliable. The structural model examination reports that normative and continuance commitment strongly predict job satisfaction. Similarly, continuance commitment and job satisfaction are significant predictors of job performance. As a mediator, job satisfaction successfully mediates the relationships between continuance commitment and job performance and between normative commitment and job performance. No significant differences emerge from the multi-group analysis results between IBS teachers from Kedah (Malaysia) and Jambi (Indonesia), regarding all direct paths between the constructs. This article provides knowledge contributions from Indonesia and Malaysia, in the context of Islamic education.

Abstract

In the context of globalized teacher education, the integration of language competence into the development of professional identity among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) student-teachers remains insufficiently addressed. This study explores how non-native English-speaking student-teachers construct their professional identity through the lens of language competence during international teaching practicums. Employing a hermeneutic phenomenological approach, the research investigates the lived experiences of two Indonesian EFL student-teachers who participated in the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) exchange program. Data collection involved semi-structured interviews and document analysis, including lesson plans, reflective journals, and mentor feedback. The analysis identified four key themes: language competence as a catalyst for identity formation, self-awareness as a foundation for professional growth, the integration of disciplinary knowledge into teaching practice, and student-centered engagement. The findings reveal divergent pathways in identity construction, shaped by how each participant perceived and responded to linguistic challenges. One student-teacher reframed language anxiety as an opportunity for transformation, while the other struggled with persistent self-doubt despite technical preparation. This study addresses a critical gap in teacher education literature by emphasizing how language competence functions as a core element of professional identity, rather than a supplementary skill. The results offer practical implications for designing teacher education curricula that prioritize reflective practice, language support, and identity development. By situating language competence within the broader process of becoming an effective educator, this study contributes to a more holistic understanding of teacher preparation in international and intercultural settings.

Abstract

The study aims to comprehensively explore thesis supervision from EFL undergraduate students perspectives. To be more specific, the present study investigates the challenges faced by EFL students and the strategies they used to overcome them while under thesis supervision. To meet the purposes of this study, a qualitative research design with a case study approach was used. Data were collected from 10 final-year students using in-depth interviews and audio recording techniques. The results drawn from the thematic analysis (Braun Clarke, 2006) indicates that EFL undergraduate students faced both internal and external challenges. Internal challenges included students lack of motivation, lack of confidence, and poor time management, whereas external challenges were insufficient support from supervisors, supervisors harsh feedback and comments, change of supervisor, and the internet and technology problems. In terms of overcoming strategies, the students mainly utilized the three strategies to cope with their challenges in the process of thesis supervision: 1) self-management (managing the study, self-study, maintaining positive motivation, doing positive and enjoyable activities, and being proactive), 2) academic and peer support (supervisor support, lecturer support, and peer support), and 3) technological support (language application, referencing application, and search for stable connection). These results suggest that the issues pertaining to thesis supervision warrant more attention and have a major influence on students progress in completing theses.

Abstract

In globalization, possessing intercultural communicative competence (ICC) is essential for individuals’ success. However, students face motivational barriers in online intercultural learning. Thus, this study aims to explore the effectiveness of integrating gamification with self-determination theory (SDT) to enhance the intrinsic motivation, ultimately aiding in the development of intercultural communication competence among Chinese vocational college students enrolled in online English intercultural learning. Employing a mixed-methods approach involving pre-post questionnaires and interviews, the study engaged 38 vocational college students from the automobile and rail transit faculty in a four-week online English intercultural learning module enriched with gamified elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, levels, and quests. The findings indicate that gamified learning effectively fulfills students’ needs for competence and autonomy, partially addressing their needs for relatedness and consequently fostering an upsurge in intrinsic motivation. Additionally, improvements were observed in knowledge, attitude, and skill, with marginal changes noted in awareness. It is concluded that gamified learning approaches based on SDT can positively contribute to the development of intrinsic motivation and intercultural communication competence. These findings hold practical implications for educational institutions and researchers to cultivate intrinsic motivation and ICC through online gamified learning.

Abstract

The digital era presents challenges and opportunities for Islamic boarding schools to empower students in the field of entrepreneurship. Training on the use of digital e-commerce platforms at the Al Jauharen Islamic Boarding School in Jambi aims to improve students' entrepreneurial skills and interests. This activity uses a participatory approach through theory, practice, and mentoring sessions. A total of 30 students took part in the training, with pre-tests and post-tests used to measure understanding. The results showed that 85% of participants experienced an increase in understanding, and 78% were interested in starting an independent business. Several students have succeeded in marketing products through platforms such as Shopee and Instagram. The obstacles faced include time management and limited access to technology. This training is effective in improving digital skills and entrepreneurial motivation, but requires further mentoring and technological support so that students' businesses are sustainable. With these positive results, it is hoped that similar training can be implemented in other Islamic boarding schools as an effort to empower the economy and develop students' competencies in the digital era. Abstract

Bullying in schools, especially at the junior high school (SMP) level, is a serious issue that can damage students' mental and social health, as well as create an unsafe learning environment. Therefore, it is important to develop effective strategies, such as educational Games, to educate students about the impact of bullying and create a safe learning environment. This study aims to describe the planning, design, development, and feasibility of an educational Game for SMP students. The method used is Research and Development, with subjects being grade IX students of SMP Negeri 7 Muaro Jambi. The Game development follows the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), with validation from content and media experts and field trials. The research results show that the educational Game has high feasibility: 98% content expert validation, 90% media expert validation, 99% teacher response, and 87% field trial results. The Game also received an 85% score for attractiveness, indicating that it is appealing to students. Based on these results, the educational Game is proven to be suitable as a solution to address bullying in SMP, while also serving as an effective and engaging media tool for students.
