Abstract

Evaluating the learning outcomes of a certain course implementation can improve the quality of education. This study is focused on Indonesian EFL undergraduates’ perceptions of the relationships between teacher performance, technological resources, online project-based learning (OPJBL), and ESP learning outcomes. Participants of the study have attended English for specific purposes (ESP) online courses during school closures due to Covid-19. A survey was addressed to 350 undergraduates after a one-semester implementation of the OPJBL. The students were requested to rate their perceptions on validated items using a 7-point Likert-type scale for the data collection. The data were modelled and computed through partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The main findings of the study revealed that teacher performance and technological resources were significant in predicting OPJBL. Similarly, OPJBL was found to play a significant role in affecting ESP learning outcomes. Teacher performance and technological resources were also correlated to ESP learning outcomes. Significant differences were found among students’ locations for all variables. The findings highlight the benefits of the SEM approach for establishing the proposed framework and assessing the links between variables concerning the OPJBL and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This paper examines the effect of applying Information and Communication Technology (TIK) in the learning process through the UTAUT model. There are four components seen from the UTAUT model, namely Performance Improvement Expectations, Business Improvement Expectations, Social Influence, and Supporting Conditions. The population used in the research were teachers at three schools in Jambi, namely SDN 47/IV, SDN 66/IV, and SDIT Al Azhar. The sample in the research involved 130 teachers in the three schools. The research is quantitative research. Research data were obtained through survey methods and questionnaires. The data analysis used in the research is PLS-SEM. The results indicate that the four components of the UTAUT model had a significant influence on the use of Information and Communication Technology (TIK) applied by teachers in the learning process. The most influential component of UTAUT through Information and Communication Technology applied by teachers is the Supporting Conditions. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model has an influence on the use of Information and Communication Technology (TIK) applied by elementary school teachers in the learning process.

Abstract

Indonesian students are assumed to have low ability in speaking performance in terms of meaning, form, and communication aspects. This study investigated whether or not Fishbowl Technique and students’ learning interest are effective to improve students’ speaking achievement. The population of this study was 150 eleventh grade students of SMK SPP Sembawa Banyuasin. Sixty of them were taken to be the sample of the study. They were divided into experimental and control group through cluster random sampling. To collect the data of speaking achievement, the oral test was used. The criteria were interaction, pronunciation, fluency, and grammar. The findings showed that there was a significant difference in achievement before and after the treatment in the experimental group of students’ learning interest, it was shown that the sig. The significance Value was 0.000 < 0.05, it means that the students’ speaking achievement significantly increased. The test of Between-Subjects Effects analyses, the significant value of the technique (fishbowl) and the students’ learning interest were 0.936, the probability sig. of technique was 0.000, and the interaction between high, medium and low interest was 0.936 which was higher than the significant level of p-value 0.05, it means that there was no significant interaction between students’ learning interest and fishbowl technique. It could be meant that the learning interest did not contribute to improve the students’ speaking achievement when the fishbowl technique was applied. Keywords: Fishbowl, Interest, Speaking

Abstract

The need for information is one of a person's needs, because it is very important to expand knowledge. The presence of information and communication technology makes it easy for every use, especially in the field of education. Education can be utilized by teachers and students in the learning process. Information and communication technology can be used by teachers as a medium that helps improve the quality of learning. This study aims to determine the effect of the Uses and Gratification Theory (UGT) approach to the use of ICT by teachers in the learning process. To achieve this goal, data was collected from 130 teachers in 3 elementary schools in Jambi city through a survey with a questionnaire aimed at teachers who had integrated Information and Communication Technology, which were then analyzed using PLS-SEM. The results showed that the Uses and Gratification Theory (UGT) approach consisting of cognitive needs, affective needs, and social needs is valid and influences the use of Information and Communication Technology by teachers in primary schools in Jambi city in the learning process, effective and used as needed.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to validate instruments regarding digital technology access among Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) faculty members during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). An EFL Faculty member’s Access to Digital Technology (EFL-FADT) scale was adopted from previous relevant studies consisting of Motivation, Skills, and Use. A total of 235 EFL faculty members from three public and three private universities in Indonesia participated in this study, selected through cluster random sampling. A survey design was applied to examine the factor structure of the EFL-FADT. The survey data were computed through the steps of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with IBM SPSS 23 and SPSS AMOS 23. Through the EFA with Varimax rotation, two factors emerged from Motivation, three from Skills, and two from Use. The result successfully mapped the proposed model. The CFA approach verified the instrument which was satisfactory for Indonesian EFL faculty members. The findings informed 25 valid and reliable indicators. The measured scale achieves psychometric properties. It can provide future studies with a tool to capture EFL faculties’ access to digital technology.

Abstract

This study was aimed at analyzing the implementation, processes and problems of classroom management in two Indonesian high schools from the perspective of English teachers in accordance with the latest, 2013, Indonesian curriculum. The research was qualitative with a case study approach. The sites for this study were two national senior high schools in Jambi Province, Indonesia. Eight teachers of English were involved as the research participants to provide a broad perspective of implementation of classroom management. The researchers used four techniques for collecting data: interviews, focus group discussions, observations, and document review. To assess the trustworthiness of the research, the researchers did triangulation, member checking and reflexivity. The findings, describing the implementation, processes and problems of classroom management, are divided into three themes: (i) teaching standards, rules and procedures, (ii) classroom climate, and (iii) timing and scheduling. Policy recommendation proposed such as to limit the number of students (in a class), to provide up-to-date technology and to provide more training for teachers are not only for teachers but also for school authorities, and other stake holders for the betterment of Indonesian education.

Abstract

Many empirical studies used technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge (TPACK) to evaluate technology integration in education. However, systematic reviews on TPACK, related to technology integration in education are still limited, linked to the TPACK and technology integration issue. Therefore, this systematic literature reviews TPACK-based studies from 2010 to 2022, focusing on three topics: instruments to assess TPACK, TPACK domains’ inter-correlation, and TPACK relationships with technology integration. This systematic literature review implemented PRISMA (preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses). The study used Science Direct as a platform for articles’ search with three keywords, namely TPACK, preservice teacher; TPCK, preservice teacher; and TPACK, preservice teacher, technology integration. There were 28 articles reviewed. The findings informed 11 articles regarding scales to assess TPACK. There were nine articles reported TPACK domains’ intercorrelation and 10 articles informed TPACK relationships with technology integration. This study could significantly contribute to advancing knowledge regarding instruments to assess TPACK, TPACK factors inter-correlation, and TPACK and technology integration.
