Abstract

This study was aimed at evaluating the utilization of total mixed rations containing cocoa pod frass and palm kernel meal frass from BSF larvae on the performance and blood profile of boerka goats. Twelve male boerka goats with an average initial weight of 23,79±3,49 kg were used in this experiment, which were then grouped into four groups based on body weight. The treatment consisted of R0: control ration (30% forage+70% concentrate), R1: ration containing 15% cocoa pod frass+15% forage+70% concentrate, and R2: 15% palm kernel meal frass+15% forage+70% concentrate. The observed parameters were nutrient consumption, body weight gain, feed efficiency, haematological profile and blood metabolites. The study used a randomized block design and the collected data would be analysed using analysis of variance as the significance of treatments was continued with Duncan test. The result showed that ration containing cocoa pod frass gave a better response to the performance and blood profile of goats. The conclusion of this study was the feeding ration containing cocoa pod frass and palm kernel meal frass could be used as a mixture in goat rations and did not interfere with the goat’s health. Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the supplementation of moringa flour (Moringa oleifera L.) on the performance of KUB chickens as well as the physical quality, vitamin A and cholesterol of the eggs. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD), with 4 treatments of moringa flour supplementation (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%) and 6 replications. The measured variables were performance, physical quality, egg vitamin A content and egg cholesterol content. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and further tested with Duncan's multiple range test. The rearing duration was 3 months, using a total of 96 24-week-old KUB chickens. The results showed that supplementation of moringa leaf flour up to 15% in feed had no significant effect on production performance or the vitamin A and cholesterol content of eggs, but it significantly increased the egg yolk color score. It can be concluded that the supplementation of 10% moringa leaf flour provides the lowest feed conversion and has higher income/income over feed cost values compared to the control. Abstract

This study determined the effects of different flushing frequency on performance and blood metabolite profile of ewes and their suckling lambs at pre-weaning period. Twelve multiparous Garut ewes (2 years-old, BW 30.06 ± 6.20 kg) and 18 lambs born to experimental ewes (lambing weight 2.49 ± 0.56 kg) were used in this study. Ewes were randomly assigned into four treatment groups in a complete block design, namely: without flushing (T0: control), flushing at the beginning of mating (T1: 2 weeks before and after mating), two times flushing (T2: T1 + 4 weeks flushing at mid-gestation), and three times flushing (T3: T2 + 2 weeks flushing at before and after parturition). Three times flushing increased ((p<0.05) the crude fat intake, while different flushing frequencies did not affect (p>0.05) dry matter intake and intakes of crude protein, crude fiber, nitrogen-free extract, and total digestible nutrients of ewes at the pre-weaning period. Different flushing frequencies did not change (p>0.05) the productive performances of ewes during the pre-weaning period. Flushing application improved (p<0.05) the average daily gain of pre-weaning lambs at 14 days, but it did not affect the weaning weight of lambs. Two times flushing showed no pre-weaning mortality rate (p<0.05). Flushing application tended to decrease (p=0.08) blood plasma triglyceride of ewes at 21- days, while two times flushing frequency tended to increase blood plasma cholesterol (p=0.05) and triglyceride (p=0.08) of lambs at 21 days. In conclusion, increased flushing frequency supports ewes and their twin lamb growth performance and blood metabolite profile at the pre-weaning period

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of herbal mineral block (HMB) supplementation containing turmeric flour, black soldier fly (BSF), and micro minerals on the performance and blood profile of Dorper crossbred sheep. Ten growing sheep and ten lactating sheep were divided into two treatment groups (P0: complete feed without HMB supplementation and P1: complete feed with HMB supplementation). The research design used was a factorial completely randomized design (2 × 2) with 5 replications. Factor physiological status of growing and lactating sheep and factor supplementation with and without HMB. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan’s test. The results showed no interaction between physiological status and HMB supplementation on sheep performance (nutrient intake, initial and final body weight, daily body weight gain, and feed efficiency) and blood profile (hematology, metabolites, and minerals). The physiological status had a very significant effect (p<0.01) on nutrient intake, initial and final body weight, daily body weight gain, feed efficiency, and significantly (p<0.05) on serum phosphorus. Supplementation of HMB significantly (p<0.05) increased serum calcium which was crucial for bone an teeth development in growing sheep and milk production in lactating sheep. Serum phosphorus was higher in growing sheep, supporting their bone growth and energy metabolis compared to lactating sheep as it was diverted to the mammary gland.

Abstract

This research identified the effects of foliar application of boron fertilization and arbuscular mycorrhiza in the form of cookies (Miko-SC) on the growth and seed production of Jack bean. Jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis) is a dual-purpose crop that produces seeds and green-biomass as a source of protein for human consumption and animal feed. Boron and Miko-SC significantly influences seed growth and development, and arbuscular mycorrhiza can enhance mineral uptake. This study employed four doses of boron foliar fertilizer (0, 23, 46, and 69 mg/l) and three diameters of Miko-SC (4, 5, and 6 cm). The highest values of plant height, stem diameter, and leaf size were observed in the combination of 46 mg/l boron and 5-cm Miko-SC. The highest number of leaves, pod weight, and grain weight were achieved at 23 mg/l boron combined with 6-cm Miko-SC. Conclusively, the optimal combination of boron and arbuscular mycorrhiza in the form of Miko-SC cookies significantly enhanced the growth of Jack bean, offering valuable insights into cultivation improvement as a forage and food crop.

Abstract

Prediction models for beef meat quality are necessary because production and consumption were significant and increasing yearly. This study aims to create a prediction model for beef freshness quality using the random forest regressor (RFR) algorithm and to improve the accuracy of the predictions using hyperparameter tuning. The use of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in predicting beef quality is an easy, cheap, and fast technique. This study used six meat quality parameters as prediction target variables for the test. The R² metric was used to evaluate the prediction results and compare the performance of the RFR with default parameters versus the RFR with hyperparameter tuning (RandomSearchCV). Using default parameters, the R-squared (R²) values for color (L*), drip loss (%), pH, storage time (hour), total plate colony (TPC in cfu/g), and water moisture (%) were 0.789, 0.839, 0.734, 0.909, 0.845, and 0.544, respectively. After applying hyperparameter tuning, these R² scores increased to 0.885, 0.931, 0.843, 0.957, 0.903, and 0.739, indicating an overall improvement in the model’s performance. The average performance increase for prediction results for all beef quality parameters is 0.0997 or 14% higher than the default parameters.
