Abstract

The industrial revolution in the 21st century demands the creation of a generation that is responsive to change and has the competencies of Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration (4C). The contextual learning process based on ethnochemistry is expected to increase students' motivation and interest in learning chemistry. Chemistry subjects that are classified as difficult and can be linked to local culture are the colligative properties of solutions. This study aims to analyze chemical literacy through learning with an Ethnochemical approach to the material of colligative properties of solutions. The research method used is quantitative descriptive research. Data collection using a test method, the test method is in the form of multiple-choice chemical literacy questions with a total of 10 validated questions and has a reliability index in the moderate category. The test method aims to determine students' chemical literacy in terms of content, context, and competence. The results of the study showed that the average chemical literacy of students in terms of content aspects was 49.2%; context aspects of 40.4%, and competency aspects of 50.6%. Th e average chemical literacy from these three aspects is categorized as “Not Enough”. The results of the study concluded that chemical literacy in ethnochemistry-based learning is in the “Not Enaough” category. The recommendation from this study is the need for innovation in chemistry learning through integration between ethnochemistry and STEM as well as the development of teaching materials in the form of ethnochemistry-based books that support the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the STEM-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving students' scientific creativity on the topic "Separation of Mixtures" in class VIII of SMP Negeri 36 Jakarta. The background of this study departs from the need for science learning that is able to foster creativity and critical thinking through contextual and collaborative experiences. The method used is a quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design, involving two classes of 36 students each. The experimental class used the STEM-based PjBL model, while the control class applied the Discovery Learning model. Data were collected through creative thinking skills tests and analyzed with SPSS. The results showed a significant increase in students' creativity scores in the experimental class (p = 0.000) with a large to very large effect size based on Cohen's d calculation and Hedges' correction. These findings indicate that STEM-based PjBL has a strong practical effect in developing students' scientific creativity. In conclusion, the implementation of STEM-based PjBL is effective in improving creative thinking skills through contextual, collaborative, and challenging learning, and contributes to strengthening the science education approach that is oriented towards developing 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This project aims to develop and test Ethno-STEM-based e-books to enhance students’ chemical literacy and sustainability awareness regarding the colligative properties of solutions. The e-book’s development integrates coordination science with local knowledge, enabling students to understand chemical concepts in a relevant and applicable manner. The research strategy employed is RD using the ADDIE model. The e-book was approved by media and content specialists and tested on students to assess its effectiveness in improving chemical education and sustainability awareness. The level of feasibility based on media expert judgment is 89% in the "Valid" category, and media experts are 95% in the "Valid" category. Also, the CVR value is 0.86 and the CVI is 0.93, both of which are in the valid range. E-Books improve students' chemical literacy and sustainability awareness, with N-Gain indices of 0.745 in the "high" category and 0.541 in the "moderate" category—long-term impacts and applications to other disciplines are to be studied to support ESD programs.
