Abstract

The application of the new curriculum directs more scientific learning by applying the six task method. However, curriculum changes often have obstacles in their implementation. This study aims to analyze the learning environment in biology classes from the perspective of inquiry learning, as one of the most recommended science learning approaches. The research uses descriptive methods, with a population of 121 students from five environmental biology classes who have fully implemented the IQF curriculum. Samples taken by cluster random sampling method obtained two classes with a total of 46 students. Data obtained from questionnaires and learning outcomes documents. The results showed that biology learning activities had a level of conformity with inquiry learning in the "sufficient" category. Data shows that among the components of inquiry activity observed, questioning and hypothesizing are the lowest intensity activities. While communication activities have the highest intensity. It can be concluded that the learning of environmental biology still needs to be improved, especially in questioning and hypothesizing activities.

Abstract

Inquiry learning has been known as a popular approach to be studied and applied in science learning. However, the effect of different levels of inquiry on science process skills has not received much attention. This study aims to see the effect of the implementation of guided and structured inquiry on students' Science Process Skills. The quasi-experimental method was carried out with the posttest-only control group Randomized design in two classes of Biology's first-year students. Data were collected with a process skill observation sheet for one semester of lectures. The results showed that both types of inquiry learning showed similar achievement patterns for the types of process skills observed, but generally guided inquiry showed better results. The average score of science process skills in structured inquiry classes was 71.67, while in guided inquiry classes was 78.06. Another interesting finding is that the two types of inquiry learning produce similar performance patterns for the type of process skills observed. The sequence of the type of process skills that are most mastered in both classes is to observe, conclude, classify, and communicate. Inquiry learning is able to develop science process skills well, but differences in learning experiences that are more open to guided inquiry are thought to be an explanation of the difference in achievement of process skills between the two types of inquiry.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest oil producing countries in the world. Indonesia is recorded to have produced 279.07 million barrels of oil in 2021. Indonesia's geographical location is in a strategic area which is located between the Middle East countries as oil producers and developed countries that consume oil. The Malacca Strait, which is adjacent to the Riau Islands Province as a ship transportation area, even 27% of oil spread throughout the world passes through it. In addition to economic benefits, this sea area is also at risk of oil spills which result in pollution of sea waters. The research method used in this research is literature review. The research focuses on the interior of the coast and small islands in the Riau Archipelago. The research aims to provide a collaborative strategy through sustainable oil spill management policies on coasts and small islands in the Riau Archipelago Province. The results of the research show that strategies that can be applied are socialization regarding the importance of protecting marine waters from pollution and patrolling areas that are prone to being dumps of oil. The vastness of the waters in the Riau Islands requires patrols to coordinate with BAKAMLA, Navy, Aired Police, Customs and Excise and the community. The team for handling oil in the sea of Riau Islands Province that has been formed needs to increase environmental knowledge and deepen understanding related to technology through continuous training. Operational techniques for handling oil spills must be made regular so that it is easier to concentrate and coordinate the handling of oil spills.

Abstract

Orchid is an ornamental plant commodity that has an important meaning in international trade. Until now, orchids are still the center of attention of farmers and lovers of ornamental plants, because of their bright potential as cut flowers and potted plants. The popular and widespread type of orchid is Cattleya sp. The Cattleya orchid is also called the queen of orchids because of its colorful flowers. Cattleya sp. orchids take a long time to propagate by seed, about 4 to 7 years, so other methods are needed to deal with them. Tissue culture is a method for isolating plant parts such as cells, tissues or organs, and cultivating them in an aseptic environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal interaction of growth regulators indole acetic acid (IAA), benzyl amino purine (BAP), and their interactions with the root induction of Cattleya sp. Cytokinins interact with auxin in determining the direction of cell differentiation. In this research method, differences in concentrations of indole acetic acid (IAA: 0, 2, 4, 6 ppm) and concentrations of benzyl amino purine (BAP: 0, 0, 5, 1 ppm) were carried out. Parameters observed were the number of roots and root length. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using ANOVA. The highest number of roots was obtained in the treatment medium containing 0.5 ppm BAP and 6 ppm IAA, which was 6.33. The highest root length was found in the B0I4 treatment (BAP 0 + IAA 4 ppm). The results of the analysis of the interaction variance between the IAA treatment and the BAP treatment were 0.005, meaning that there was a significant effect of the combination of IAA and BAP on the leaf length of Cattleya sp.
