Abstract

Arabic language learning in non-native settings often encounters a disconnection between linguistic proficiency and socio-cultural contexts, leading to mother-tongue interference in communication. This study aims to analyze the integration of cultural competence (al-kifâyah al-tsaqâfiyyah) into Arabic pedagogy to bridge this gap across six State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTAIN) in Java. Utilizing a multi-site comparative qualitative approach and SWOT analysis, the research evaluates environment-based language and culture learning models. Findings indicate that language acquisition effectiveness depends significantly on environmental engineering that synergizes formal and informal aspects while internalizing native patterns of thinking (anmâth al-tafkîr) and expression (anmâth al-ta’bir). Integrating Arabic-Islamic cultural content into the curriculum and syllabus through an integrated system is proven to enhance communicative skills and eliminate psychological barriers for students. This study recommends reformulating learning designs that position culture as a vital instrument in achieving authentic and functional language proficiency.

Abstract

Prophets cannot be separated from religious missionary (dakwah) activities. And those missionary endeavors cannot be separated from diversitiy (plurality) and society (al-Mad’u). The diversity itself is universal law that will always exist and develop. Religious missionary gets challenge when faced with plurality of people. Prophet muhammad was faced with such situation when he was in Makkah as well when he was establishing new community in Madinah. Such situation was also faced by his predecessors for instance Prophet Ibrahim. So how did Ibrahim and other prophets face them, What kind of missionary method suits the plurality of society? This study is based on thematis and textolinguistic approach (‘ilm al-lughah al-nashshi) to the verses that relate to story of Ibrahim, (which spread in 25 surahs in Qur’an), from the perpective of his missionary model.

Abstract

The limited availability of Arabic listening materials integrated with interactive digital technologies remains a significant challenge in enhancing listening proficiency among students in the Arabic Language Education Program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Existing resources often lack accessibility, engagement, and alignment with learning outcomes. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based Arabic listening e-module, E-sama’iy, utilizing ElevenLabs technology and structured listening activities, and to examine its effectiveness in improving students’ listening skills. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the ADDIE model, the study was conducted through five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The feasibility of the module was assessed through expert validation, while its effectiveness was evaluated using pre-test and post-test scores of second-semester students. The findings revealed that the developed e-module was highly feasible, obtaining an average validation score of 92%. Students’ listening achievement improved substantially, with mean scores increasing from 55.4 in the pre-test to 85.9 in the post-test, accompanied by an N-Gain score of 0.68, indicating moderate-to-high improvement. Furthermore, students reported highly positive perceptions (91.88%), particularly regarding motivation, engagement, and comprehension. These findings demonstrate that E-sama’iy is an effective digital learning resource for enhancing Arabic listening skills and supporting AI-assisted language learning.
