Abstract

Background: The incidence of hepatitis in children has grown from the normal number of hepatitis cases since January 2022, and it will continue to rise since the etiology and pathophysiology are unknown. This case is distinct from those caused by the hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E viruses. Glycyrrhiza glabra L. is a medicinal herb that has long been used in medicine to treat respiratory, digestive, and immune system problems, but it is also known to have an inhibitory impact on the virus. Coronavirus-associated acute respiratory syndrome, hepatitis, herpes simplex virus, influenza virus. Objective: This article will look at Glycyrrhiza glabra L.'s antihepatitis and hepatoprotective properties. Methods: The Pubmed, Sage Journal, and Sciencedirect databases were searched using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standards and the keywords "Glycyrrhiza glabra for hepatitis." The inclusion and exclusion criteria were followed. Results: From the search results, 17 publications were discovered that explain how Glycyrrhiza glabra L. can operate as an antihepatitis agent through anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and hepatoprotective mechanisms. Conclusion: Glycyrrhiza glabra L. can be used as an anti-hepatitis and hepatoprotective in children at doses ranging from 240-480mg/kg/day.

Abstract

Native people or ethnic societies that live in endemic malaria islands such as in Bangka Island and Belitung Island have used many medicinal plants to cure malaria. Leaves of kesembung (Scaevola taccada (Gaertn Roxb), roots of kebentak (Wikstroemia androsaemofolia Decne), and roots of medang mencena (Dapniphyllum laurinum (Benth) are the examples. This research was aimed to investigate the present of some biochemical compound and evaluate the antimalarial activity of ethanol extract of the plants against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7 in vitro. The IC50 level was determined through visual observation under microscope over 5000 of giemsa-stained erythrocytes then analyzed by probit analysis. Results showed that kebentak root ethanol extract was effective to inhibit P. falciparum 3D7 with level 0.485 µg/mL. Furthermore, the IC50 level of kesembung leaves and medang root were 44.352 µg/mL and 1486.678 µg/mL respectively. Phytochemical test result showed that kebentak leaf ethanol crude extract contained triterpenoid, kesembung root contained phenol and tannins; moreover, medang root contained alkaloid, saponin, and triterpenoid. How to CiteHelmi, H., Afriyansyah, B. Abstract

Background: Malaria, caused by Plasmodium parasites, is a highly prevalent and lethal illness that shows persistent ability to develop resistance. Antiplasmodial compounds that are indole-based prevent hemozoin formation, exhibiting efficacy against chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium strains. Tabernaemontana is a member of the genus comprised  to the Apocynaceae family and has long been known for its efficacy in traditional and herbal tribal medicine. Apocynaceae can be recognized by the existence of indole alkaloids, and Tabernaemontana spp. is widely identifiable for its ability to synthetize a wide variety of indole alkaloids. Objective: This literature review seeks to provide a comprehensive summary of indole alkaloid compounds from Tabernaemontana spp. and the effectiveness of Tabernaemontana spp. as antimalarials. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocols were followed to explore the PubMed, Sage Journal, ScienceDirect, and Wiley Library databases. Results: 23 publications on the antimalarial activity and indole alkaloids of several species of the genus Tabernaemontana were discovered. Conclusion: Various species of Tabernaemontana contain indole alkaloids, and extracts of the plant or parts of the plant and isolates have weak to strong antimalarial activity.

Abstract

Excessive fatigue and burnout are serious issues frequently experienced by healthcare workers and patients with chronic illnesses, particularly within high-pressure healthcare environments. These conditions not only impair the performance of medical personnel but also negatively affect the therapeutic outcomes of patients. To address this problem, a community service activity was conducted through educational outreach on fatigue and burnout management, utilizing acupressure, traditional remedies, and aromatherapy. The program involved 49 participants, including healthcare workers and Surabaya's chronic disease patients. Held on September 11, 2024, the activity employed lectures and two-way discussions as its primary methods. The material covered included traditional medicine, basic acupressure techniques, and training in roll-on and massage oil aromatherapy preparation. A structured module was developed to enhance learning effectiveness, and participants' comprehension was evaluated through pre- and post-tests. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test revealed a significant improvement in participants' understanding (p <0.01), with an average score increase of 19.8%. This initiative demonstrates that practical and interactive education can effectively improve participants' knowledge and skills in managing fatigue and burnout. Therefore, the outcomes of this activity are essential as a promotive and preventive effort to support the physical and mental well-being of vulnerable groups in healthcare settings.
