Abstract

Abstract

John Holland's theory of vocational personality and work environment is one of the most used, researched, and respected career development theories.  Holland believes that a person's choice of a job is a person's expression so that the higher the compatibility between a person's personality and the job one chooses, the higher the level of job satisfaction and stability. But the current reality is that there are individuals who are not given the opportunity to choose and consider experience in their careers, so it is important to introduce Holland's theory to individuals who will prepare to enter the world of work by providing guidance to individuals to understand their personality, the work environment they will be they face and how the two things are related, so that individual career choices are more focused. The method used in this article is a literature review by collecting various reference sources starting from 2018-2022 related to Holland's theory. Holland's theory allows individuals to direct themselves to careers that are in accordance with one's motivation, knowledge, personality, and abilities so that it is expected to reduce problems that have a tendency to arise due to individual incompatibility with work. Therefore, it is important for counselors to be able to understand Holland's theory in order to direct individuals to a career that suits them.

Abstract

This study examines the intersection of gender ideology and power relations in The Handmaid’s Tale, a novel by Margaret Atwood that portrays a dystopian society governed by patriarchal control. Employing Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (FCDA) as the methodological framework, this research investigates how gender ideology is embedded and reproduced through the novel’s language and social structures. Specifically, the study addresses three research questions: (1) What elements of gender ideology are depicted in the novel? (2) How are gender ideology and power interrelated? (3) Why are these themes central to the narrative? Utilizing a qualitative approach, the analysis focuses on narrative and discursive elements to uncover representations of gender inequality and the systematic repression of women’s autonomy. The findings indicate that the novel reflects real-world patriarchal ideologies by illustrating how language and institutional norms uphold gendered power imbalances. This research contributes to feminist literary scholarship by demonstrating how literature can expose, critique, and resist oppressive social structures through discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-regulation and online game addiction among students of MAN in Bukittinggi City. The increasing intensity of online gaming among adolescents has raised concerns regarding their academic achievement and social behavior. This research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational method. The participants were 11th-grade students selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used included a self-regulation scale based on Zimmerman’s theory (2000) and an online game addiction scale based on Young’s theory (2010). Data analysis using a simple linear correlation test revealed a positive and significant relationship between self-regulation and online game addiction (r = 0.292; p = 0.026). The coefficient of determination of 8.5% indicates that self-regulation contributes minimally to online game addiction. These findings suggest that students with higher self-regulation are better able to manage their gaming time, whereas those with lower self-regulation tend to be more addictive. This study is expected to serve as a reference for schools and parents in fostering students’ self-regulation skills through guidance and digital literacy initiatives.
