Abstract

The phenomenon of preaching in non-conventional spaces such as nightclubs has drawn attention because it presents a form of religious message delivery that adapts to the socio-cultural context of marginalized audiences. Gus Miftah, as a contemporary preacher, utilizes these spaces, both directly and through digital media, to convey inclusive and communicative preaching. This study aims to analyze the process of encoding da'wah messages by Gus Miftah in the video “LC Karaoke Bertanya, Gus Miftah Ngaji di Boshe” and the audience’s reception (decoding) through comments on YouTube. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and Stuart Hall’s encoding-decoding theory, data were collected through video documentation and purposive observation of comments. The results show that the da'wah messages are constructed contextually and humanistically, with a relaxed, humorous style and language familiar to nightlife workers. The analysis reveals three audience reception positions: the majority fully accept the message, a small portion critically engages with the context, and others reject the preaching method as incompatible with traditional values. These findings indicate that the audience’s cultural, social, and religious backgrounds strongly influence the response to da'wah. This study enriches the discourse on digital da'wah and emphasizes the importance of understanding the audience as active subjects in communication. Conclusion: A contextual preaching approach effectively penetrates non-conventional spaces and is widely accepted, despite resistance from conservative and critical audiences.

Abstract

Sokobanah Sampang merupakan nama Kecamatan di Pulau Madura, Pulau Madura dikenal sebagai Pulau yang rata-rata penduduknya bersikap dan berwatak keras. Terutama di daerah Sampang, di sana sangat rawan terjadinya carok dan perbuatan asusila lainnya yang memang menjadi acuan utama mengapa Madura diklaim sebagai Pulau yang penduduknya berwatak Keras. Beredarnya penyebaran bahaya narkoba misalnya. Lingkungan berpengaruh besar terhadap terbentuknya karakter dan mental seseorang. Maka, secara singkat penulis memilih lembaga SMA Al Arifin Sokobanah Sampang karena daerah tersebut menjadi salah satu bagian dari adanya masalah tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan pemahaman serta kesadaran bahaya narkoba. Sedangkan selama proses penelitian penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan datanya yaitu observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi sehingga, memperolehkan data secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian pada artikel ini adalah strategi komunikasi yang digunakan dalam membangun dakwah Anti narkoba di lembaga SMA Al Arifin selaras dengan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Devito tentang komunikasi Interpersonal, komunikasi interpersonal adalah pertukaran pesan yang dilakukan oleh dua orang atau lebih baik secara formal dan non formal sebagaimana berikut: Lembaga SMA Al Arifin memiliki kebijakan dalam membentuk generasi anti narkoba, dengan diberlakukannya kerjasama dengan Pihak kepolisian atau KUA dalam mengarahkan dan membimbing Siswa Siswi Al Arifin guna meminimalisir penyebaran bahaya narkoba, serta menggunakan metode pendekatan kepada Siswa SMA Al Arifin secara kondusif melalui guru BK (Bimbingan Konseling), sehigga dapat mengontrol perilaku siswa secara emosional.

Abstract

Penyebaran kisah Israiliyat dalam dakwah Islam di Indonesia telah menjadi topik yang cukup kontroversial. Israiliyat merujuk pada cerita-cerita yang berasal dari tradisi Yahudi dan Nasrani yang sering kali dimasukkan dalam tafsir atau ceramah agama. Meskipun ada beberapa cerita Israiliyat yang memiliki nilai moral yang sesuai dengan ajaran Islam, banyak juga yang tidak dapat dipastikan kebenarannya dan bisa bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam yang sahih. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat bagaimana kisah Israiliyat menyebar dalam dakwah Islam di Indonesia, serta dampak negatif yang mungkin timbul, seperti penyebaran informasi yang salah atau penyimpangan dari ajaran Islam yang benar. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga mengkaji bagaimana respons ulama dan masyarakat terhadap penyebaran kisah Israiliyat, dan langkah-langkah yang dapat diambil untuk mencegah dampak negatifnya dalam dakwah. Hasil penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya seleksi yang hati-hati terhadap sumber dakwah dan perlunya pemahaman kritis terhadap cerita yang disampaikan dalam ceramah agama.

Abstract

This study intends to investigate how moderate Islam is contested on the websites muhammadiyah.or.id and nu.or.id. This study uses Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis approach as a sort of content analysis research. The findings of this study demonstrate that, in the first place, the discourse of moderate Islam in NU media is presented under the slogan “Globalizing Moderate Islam,” while in Muhammadiyah media, the discourse of moderate Islam is presented in relation to ”he accomplishments in seven different areas, including economy, education, morality, social issues, da'wah, nationality, and gender. Second, the discourse process used to portray moderate Islam is examined in terms of textual, social, and sociocultural praxis dimensions. This analysis reveals the various ways that moderate Islam is interpreted as well as the motivations behind such interpretations.

Abstract

This study discusses Gus Kautsar's communication style in the routine study of the Irsyadul 'Ibad book delivered through the Terasgubuk YouTube channel on February 7, 2025. In the digital era, social media is currently an important space for delivering Islamic preaching. But not all preachers can adjust or align the way they deliver their preaching with the characteristics of digital audiences who tend to like relevant, reflective and communicative content. Gus Kautsar is one of the preachers who uses a unique and down-to-earth approach, he uses everyday language mixed between Indonesian and Javanese, and delivers the contents of classical books with a light but meaningful style of speech by utilizing the YouTube platform. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with discourse analysis to study the verbal and nonverbal styles used. Gus Kautsar not only delivers material informatively, but also touches on the emotional and spiritual aspects of the audience. His calm demeanor, true stories, and imaginary dialogue techniques make his preaching more alive and he and the audience can be closer. This study clearly proves that the success of digital preaching is greatly influenced by the ability to communicate empathetically, contextually, and humanely. This kind of preaching model is very relevant amidst the dynamics of modern society that thirsts for sincerity and meaning in religious messages.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study was to examine the extent of da’wah by analyzing the assets of understanding, strategies for developing knowledge, and the results of understanding digital literacy in moderating religion among Madurese ethnic women in the Tapal Kuda area. Method - The study used the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method, focusing on Pasar Induk (the main market) in Situbondo, which represents a hub of daily activities where Madurese women dominate as traders. Data collection involved participatory observation and mentoring, with a focus on identifying various types of assets. Result - The results showed that Madurese women possess several assets, namely physical assets, human assets, and social and institutional assets. The mentoring process revealed an increase in awareness among the women about utilizing these assets for digital literacy to better understand religious moderation in their daily lives. Implication –The method suggests improving digital literacy skills and awareness among marginalized groups to promote religious moderation and empower their economic activities. Originality/Value - This research is the first study to explore the integration of digital literacy and da’wah for religious moderation specifically among Madurese women merchants in a market setting, using the ABCD method as an intervention framework.*** Tujuan - Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat sejauh mana dakwah dengan menganalisis aset pemahaman, strategi pengembangan pengetahuan, dan hasil pemahaman literasi digital dalam memoderasi agama di kalangan perempuan etnis Madura di wilayah Tapal Kuda. Metode - Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Pengembangan Masyarakat Berbasis Aset (ABCD), dengan fokus pada Pasar Induk di Situbondo, yang merupakan pusat kegiatan sehari-hari di mana perempuan Madura mendominasi sebagai pedagang. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi partisipatif dan pendampingan, dengan fokus pada identifikasi berbagai jenis aset. Hasil - Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan Madura memiliki beberapa aset, yaitu aset fisik, aset manusia, dan aset sosial dan kelembagaan. Proses pendampingan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan kesadaran di antara para perempuan untuk memanfaatkan aset-aset tersebut untuk literasi digital agar lebih memahami moderasi beragama dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Implikasi - Metode ini menunjukkan peningkatan keterampilan literasi digital dan kesadaran di antara kelompok-kelompok yang terpinggirkan untuk mempromosikan moderasi beragama dan memberdayakan kegiatan ekonomi mereka. Keaslian/Nilai - Penelitian ini adalah studi pertama yang mengeksplorasi integrasi literasi digital dan dakwah untuk moderasi beragama secara khusus di kalangan pedagang perempuan Madura di lingkungan pasar, menggunakan metode ABCD sebagai kerangka kerja intervensi.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed various aspects of life, including how people communicate and disseminate religious values. Generation Z, as digital natives, plays a central role in utilizing social media, including accessing Islamic preaching (dakwah) content. This study focuses on the Instagram account @ayah_amanah, which features the Sharing Time dakwah program led by Ustadz Hanan Attaki. The purpose of this research is to analyze the commodification process of dakwah through Instagram and to examine how audience interaction occurs within the framework of social exchange. Using a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis, the study integrates Karl Marx’s theory of commodification and the social exchange theories of George C. Homans and Peter M. Blau. The findings aim to demonstrate that digital dakwah is not merely a means of spiritual communication but also a commodified product packaged, distributed, and consumed within the social media ecosystem. This research also reveals how visuals, narratives, and branding strategies shape power relations and meanings in the dissemination of contemporary Islamic messages. The study offers a new contribution by bridging digital dakwah in the context of Instagram.

Digital Da'wah Through Social Media: A Case Study of the Instagram Account @Pesan-Trend by Ustadz Hanan Attaki In today's digital era, social media has become a highly potential platform for conveying religious messages to the younger generation. One prominent figure who has successfully utilized social media as a medium for da'wah is Ustadz Hanan Attaki through the Instagram account @Pesan-Trend. This account adopts a contemporary and accessible approach to da'wah, appealing to the spiritual side of youth through engaging visual designs and messages that are relevant to everyday life.The content presented goes beyond religious teachings, emphasizing character development such as patience, honesty, and social awareness. This approach has proven effective in capturing the attention of young audiences and integrating Islamic values into their lifestyle.One of the account’s flagship programs is Forest Night, which combines spiritual and reflective activities in natural settings, creating a deep and memorable religious experience.Through inspirational narratives and a strategic use of media aesthetics, @Pesan-Trend introduces a new face of Islamic da'wah—moderate, inclusive, and grounded. These findings indicate that social media can serve as an effective da'wah space to positively shape youth character, as long as it is delivered in a creative, relevant, and communicative manner in line with the evolving digital culture among the younger generation.Keywords: digital da'wah, Instagram, youth character, Ustadz Hanan Attaki, Pesan-Trend

Abstract

Mass media has a strategic role in shaping the public’s perspective on crucial issues, including environmental issues that are increasingly prominent in global and national discourse. This study aims to analyze how online Islamic media NUOnline and Tajdid.id frame environmental issues through the perspective of Robert N. Entman’s framing theory, which includes four main elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and suggest remedies. The results of the study show that NUOnline tends to define environmental problems as a form of moral and spiritual crisis, with causes linked to weak religious awareness and the practice of exploiting nature. Moral judgment is conveyed through Islamic teachings on the mandate and responsibility of the caliph on earth, as well as solutions directed at strengthening local religious and cultural values. Meanwhile, Tajdid.id frames environmental issues as structural and multidimensional problems, with an emphasis on collective responsibility between religious communities and the importance of public policy. This media emphasizes a rational and collaborative approach in offering solutions. These findings indicate that although both contain religious values as a moral basis in environmental reporting, differences in ideological orientation and communication approaches result in different framing constructions. This study fills the gap in the study of media framing based on religious values and offers a new perspective on Islamic environmental communication in Indonesia.

Abstract

Nurcholish Madjid is synonymous with inclusive Islam discourse. His works are quite consistent in voicing the idea of Islam as an open religion. This article specifically examines the construction of inclusive proselytizing of Nurcholish Madjid and its significance for religious practice. This paper also argues that the people of Indonesia need to embrace and implement inclusive proselytizing in order to create interfaith community or inter-religious harmonyKeywords: Nurcholish Madjid, inclusive proselytizing, inter-religious harmony------------------------------------------------------------------------Wacana Islam inklusif sangat melekat dengan sosok Nurcholish Madjid.
