Abstract

The issue of multiculturalism in Indonesia is a topic that is often discussed. The thing that drives the conversation departs from the many cases related to social and cultural differences that are not recognized and respected amid community life. This research aims to provide an overview of multicultural values through communication so that they can be appropriately conveyed to the students of Pesantren Tebuireng. The method used in this research is qualitative with a case study approach. The results of this study indicate that multicultural communication by Pesantren Tebuireng is carried out in several ways, including holding national workshops, filming national figures, bandongan recitation, designing santri study rooms, and queuing culture. This gives the santri's character a spirit of nationalism and love for the country. In addition, it also encourages santri to apply the values of Pancasila to everyday life.

Abstract

KUPI Muslim feminists are born from religious leaders who are sensitive to women's issues. They examine religious texts from a gender perspective, balancing the roles between patriarchal traditions and equality education, on the basis that Islam teaches inclusive justice for all humans. This paper uses a qualitative method with a social approach through Coleman's rational choice theory as an analytical tool on the data findings. The findings in this paper show that the KUPI Muslim feminist movement is based on rational choices constructed through Islamic religious values sourced from sacred texts with a scientific and experiential lens. Rational choice based on religious values raises the concept of rational religion choice. Their movement aims to reconstruct patriarchal domination in religion, and promote gender-inclusive religion through re-reading sacred texts with various holistic and contextual approaches to develop a new epistemology in Islam in feminism. To optimize their goals, they utilize human resources through organizations affiliated with KUPI, as well as online media to spread their ideas. The KUPI Muslim feminist movement reconstructs gender-inclusive Islam through religious rationality, organizational advocacy, and the use of digital media.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan atas dasar fenomena aktivitas dakwah pada akun Instagram @angger_sy. Dakwah merupakan aktivitas komunikasi yang dilakukan di publik untuk menyampaikan nilai-nilai keislaman menuju kebaikan. Penggunaan Instagram saat ini sangat bermanfaat dalam pengembangan dakwah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran mengenai arti pesan dakwah dalam level realitias, level representasi dan level ideologi di postingan Instagram @angger_sy. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan strategi desain teori semiotika John Fiske. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini bersumber dari pengamatan, dokumentasi dan studi pustaka. Analisis data yang digunakan menggunakan semiotika John Fiske; codes of televition level realitas, level representasi, dan level ideologi. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa makna dakwah Islami pada postingan akun Instagram. @angger_sy tentang aqidah memuat pesan di antaranya makna taqwa, Allah Maha Penolong, Allah Maha Pengampun, Allah Maha Adil, takdir, musibah dosa, rizki, kematian, infaq, harapan kepada Allah, ujian, Allah Maha Melihat, dan hijrah. Syariat membahas tiga topik yaitu puasa tapi pacaran, makna pacaran dan nasehat nilai-nilai kebaikan. Sedangkan untuk akhlak memuat banyak pesan-pesan Islam dibandingkan dengan aqidah dan syariat yaitu mengejar akhirat, pandangan kebahagiaan, duniawi, menanggapi musibah, mimpi tanpa usaha, ragu akan kebaikan, fokus pada penilaian Allah, berdoa, lelah dalam ibadah, hakikat pujian, kematian, muhasabah diri, hidup beragama, dampak pacaran, derajat wanita, bersyukur, karakter manusia, niat, penyesalan dosa, nasehat kebaikan dan sombong. Level realitas pada akun Instagram @angger_sy digambarkan melalui pakaian, lingkungan, suara, ekspresi dan teks. Level representasi digambarkan hanya melalui teknik pengambilan gambar dan pencahayaan. Sedangkan level ideologi mengandung nilai Islam tentang aqidah, syariat dan akhlak.

Abstract

Corporate communication is the key to success in building a positive image in the new media era. Moreover, Social media has an important role in contributing to the performance of public relations in all business sectors, including the halal industry. KOMPHI (the Indonesian halal product lovers community) is one of the real proofs that the halal industry is trying to build a positive image on an ongoing basis. The use of social media such as Instagram and TikTok is the key to success in achieving a positive image. This study uses descriptive and qualitative methods to explore the use of social media to build a sustainable, positive image. Interviews, literature studies, and documentation are data collection methods that are considered relevant. The results show that new media theory plays an important role in accelerating the process of achieving a sustainable positive image. Social media is not only a publication and engagement medium for users and followers. Social media also plays an important role in maintaining the existence of a brand. Social media also plays a role in creating new sub-businesses through content production. Therefore, new media, such as social media, play a very important role in shaping a positive image while maintaining a sustainable positive image.

Abstract

Da’wah is an activity aimed at inviting, calling, or guiding humanity to do good, so they obey Allah’s commands and avoid His prohibitions. An effective communication model and strategy are crucial for the preacher in delivering dakwah so that the message conveyed can be received, understood, and applied by the audience in their daily lives. The focus of this research is to examine the communication model and digital dakwah strategy on Gus Miftah’s YouTube channel through one of the videos titled “Gus Miftah Visits Prisoners in Prison.” This research uses a narrative qualitative approach. Narrative research is a study that explores the lives of individuals or groups as told or documented. Based on the results of the research and analysis, it was found that Gus Miftah, in delivering his dakwah or sermon in the Narcotics Prison, utilized several communication models: the informative communication model (providing information), the persuasive communication model (inviting, motivating, and influencing), the recreational communication model (delivering with humor), and the extemporaneous communication model (noting key points and delivering them flexibly). Additionally, Gus Miftah, in his sermon or dakwah video at the Narcotics Prison, used two dakwah strategies: the sentimental strategy (appealing to feelings, emotions, or the heart) and the rational strategy (through reason and intellect). Abstract

Before regular recitation, the youth in Guluk-Guluk Village tended to be individualistic, lacked social interaction, desired instant results, and had a narrow view of education. To address this issue, the Guluk-Guluk Village Regular study was founded as a platform for spiritual development. This study focuses on: (1) the da’wah communication strategy of KH. A. Hanif Hasan in increasing the religious spirit of the youth, and (2) the supporting and inhibiting factors of the strategy. The research uses a qualitative method with techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants are KH. A. Hanif Hasan and part members of the study. The results show three main strategies. First, the use of the Madura language. Second, illustrating the content of Islamic books. These two strategies help mad’u (audiences) understand the material better through gentle language and storytelling, keeping them engaged and encouraging them to change their ways in accordance with the path approved by Allah SWT. Third, the community service strategy, this strategy asks the preacher to involve young people in socializing with the community. Supporting factors for using Madura include it being their daily language and a learning tool for polite speech. A challenge is the inconsistency due to mixing it with Indonesian. For illustrating texts, supporting factors include real-life events and stories from the Qur’an and Hadith, with no notable obstacles. For community service, it is planned through discussion, done at night, and youth are approached gradually; the obstacle is individual reluctance due to laziness or personal busyness.

Abstract

The issues of arrogance, religious extremism, and misunderstanding of Islamic teachings are serious problems that have the potential to disrupt socio-religious stability. This article explicitly explores the recent proliferation of instant preachers (ustadz) who lack a profound comprehension of religion, a moderate sanad, and an intellectualist interpretation of religion. Ultimately, these groups exhibit signs of religious arrogance, encompassing the practice of takfīr, the assertion of supremacy, and a proclivity for advocating discrimination over violence. The writing of this article uses a qualitative method of descriptive critical analysis and literature study. The main data refers to the findings of virtual observations related to the rampant phenomenon of arrogant instant preachers, then data from surveys by specialized institutions that study extreme religious movements on social media, and selected interviews with various parties. The findings of this article indicate that individuals who acquire a comprehensive understanding of religion without the guidance of a qualified and tempered instructor are susceptible to developing an exaggerated sense of self-importance, which can manifest in religious extremism. With its takfirī characteristics and often legalizing violence, this is a serious problem, especially for preachers in Indonesia. This article can be academically useful in the field of religious pattern studies in Indonesia. Practically, it is expected to get a response from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the National Council for Religious and Cultural Affairs (BPNT), Indonesian Ulema Council's Countering Extremism and Terrorism Agency (BPET-MUI), and moderate religious organizations Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah to pay more attention to the emergence of new preachers who have sprung up on social media with backgrounds and religious understanding that are far from the competency standards of mastery of religious knowledge.

Abstract

Mass media has a strategic role in shaping the public’s perspective on crucial issues, including environmental issues that are increasingly prominent in global and national discourse. This study aims to analyze how online Islamic media NUOnline and Tajdid.id frame environmental issues through the perspective of Robert N. Entman’s framing theory, which includes four main elements: define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgments, and suggest remedies. The results of the study show that NUOnline tends to define environmental problems as a form of moral and spiritual crisis, with causes linked to weak religious awareness and the practice of exploiting nature. Moral judgment is conveyed through Islamic teachings on the mandate and responsibility of the caliph on earth, as well as solutions directed at strengthening local religious and cultural values. Meanwhile, Tajdid.id frames environmental issues as structural and multidimensional problems, with an emphasis on collective responsibility between religious communities and the importance of public policy. This media emphasizes a rational and collaborative approach in offering solutions. These findings indicate that although both contain religious values as a moral basis in environmental reporting, differences in ideological orientation and communication approaches result in different framing constructions. This study fills the gap in the study of media framing based on religious values and offers a new perspective on Islamic environmental communication in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the communication strategies employed by Koh Dennis Lim in his YouTube da’wah activities, focusing on how he builds public trust through digital platforms. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research analyzes selected videos and viewer feedback to identify effective persuasive techniques. The findings reveal that Koh Dennis employs a combination of ethos, logos, and pathos to engage his audience. His use of historical narratives, personal testimonies, and relatable analogies fosters emotional connections and enhances credibility. The study highlights the importance of moderate positioning and audience inclusivity, demonstrating that effective da’wah can be achieved without confrontation. By creating a welcoming environment for dialogue, Koh Dennis successfully shifts the paradigm of Islamic preaching from a confrontational to a conversational approach. This research contributes to the understanding of modern religious communication, emphasizing the role of digital media in enhancing the reach and impact of religious messages. The implications of these findings suggest that a soft-power model of da’wah is essential in today’s pluralistic society, where empathy and authenticity are crucial for building trust and fostering engagement.

Abstract

Retorika dakwah adalah seni atau gaya berbicara seorang pendakwah (da’i) ketika menyampaikan ajaran Islam kepada public. Retorika dakwah adalah suatu hal yang mencangkup berbagai bentuk ucapan, symbol, lambang, serta penyampaian pesan dengan tujuan mengajak masyarakat pada ajaran Allah Media sosial banyak di manfaatkan oleh aktivis dakwah sebagai sarana penyampaian dakwahnya, seperti Wajdi Azim yang menyampaikan dakwahnya melalui media sosial Instagram. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan retorika dakwah Wajdi Azim di media sosial Instagram @wajdi_azim. Penelitian kualitatif sebagai prosedur penelitian yang dapat menghasilkan data deskriptif berupa kata tertulis, perkataan, dan perilaku dari objek yang diteliti. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa retorika dakwah Wajdi Azim di media sosial Instagram menggunakancara yang unik dan menarik perhatian masyarakat yaitu dengan cara mengkritik. Karena Jika  seorang da’i lebih dominan mengajak dan menyeru terhadap kebaikan, tapi tidak dengan pemilik akun Instagram @wajdi_azim yang penyampaian dakwahnya lebih tegas dan berani.
