Abstract

One of the major challenges in ruminant production in Indonesia is ensuring the availability of high-quality and adequate forage. Identifying forage varieties with good nutritive value that adapt well to local climate conditions is crucial. This study evaluated the nutrient composition, fiber fractions, and in vitro rumen fermentation of Mulato grass harvested at different cutting ages (30, 40, and 50 days) in the lowlands of West Java, Indonesia. The nutrient content, analyzed using proximate and fiber fraction analysis, showed no significant differences across cutting ages except for ash content, which was lower at 40 days. Mulato grass cut at 30 days had lower acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent lignin (ADL), and hemicellulose levels, while its cellulose content was higher compared to grass cut at 40 or 50 days. Rumen fermentation results indicated that grass cut at 30 days had higher in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), organic matter digestibility (IVOMD), and total volatile fatty acids (TVFA). These findings suggest that Mulato grass harvested at 30 days offers better digestibility and rumen fermentation outcomes, making it a suitable forage choice for ruminants in the lowlands of West Java, Indonesia.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh proses ensilase terhadap kualitas fisik dan pH silase Bunga telang (Clitoria ternatea) dengan penambahan starter dan bahan pakan yang berbeda. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboratorium Nutrisi dan Makanan Ternak Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Padjadjaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 6 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan yaitu P1 = Clitoria ternatea 100% + 0% Starter ; P2 = Clitoria ternatea 100% + 4% Starter; P3 = Clitoria ternatea 50% + Tebon Jagung 50% + 0% Starter; P4 = Clitoria ternatea 50% + Ampas tahu 50% + 0% Starter; P5 = Clitoria ternatea 50% + Tebon Jagung 50% + 4% Starter; P6 = Clitoria ternatea 50% + Ampas tahu 50% + 4% Starter. Variabel yang diamati adalah warna, aroma, tekstur, dan ada tidaknya jamur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap perlakuan penambahan tebon jagung, ampas tahu dan starter (EM4) memberikan pengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap warna, aroma, tekstur, keberadaan jamur dan pH. Silase yang dihasilkan dengan penambahan tebon jagung dan starter (P3 dan P5) menunjukkan kualitas fisik yang lebih baik dibandingkan silase dengan penambahan ampas tahu (P4 dan P6). Sementara itu, pH silase yang baik diperoleh dari seluruh perlakuan, dengan P6 menghasilkan nilai pH terendah. Dengan demikian, terbukti bahwa penambahan campuran bahan pakan tebon jagung 50% dan starter 4% (P5) menghasilkan kualitas fisik dan pH silase terbaik.   Kata kunci: Bunga telang (Clitoria ternatea), silase, pH, kualitas fisik

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan kulit mangga (Mangifera indica L.) dalam ransum terhadap kecernaan dan fermentabilitas pakan dalam rumen domba secara in vitro. Percobaan dirancang menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan lima perlakuan dan lima ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri dari R0 (60% rumput + 40% konsentrat), R1 (10% kulit mangga + 50% rumput + 40% konsentrat), R2 (20% kulit mangga + 40% rumput + 40% konsentrat), R3 (30% kulit mangga + 30% rumput + 40% konsentrat), dan R4 (40% kulit mangga + 20% rumput + 40% konsentrat). Variabel yang diamati meliputi kecernaan bahan kering dan bahan organik, produksi volatile fatty acids (VFA), dan konsentrasi amonia (NH3). Analisis data menggunakan analisis ragam dan dilanjutkan dengan Uji Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan kulit mangga dalam ransum memiliki pengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap kecernaan bahan kering dan bahan organik, produksi volatile fatty acids (VFA), dan konsentrasi amonia (NH3). Peningkatan proporsi kulit mangga dalam ransum meningkatkan nilai kecernaan bahan kering dari 54,70% (R0) menjadi 61,66% (R4) dan kecernaan bahan organik dari 67,22% (R0) menjadi 74,29% (R4). Konsentrasi VFA menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dengan nilai tertinggi pada perlakuan R4 sebesar 187,26 mM, sementara konsentrasi NH3 mnurun namun tetap berada dalam kisaran optimal untuk pertumbuhan mikroba rumen (5,49-8,88 mM). Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa kulit manga berpotensi sebagai bahan pakan alternatif yang dapat dimanfaatkan hingga level 40% dalam ransum. ABSTRACT This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of mango peel (Mangifera indica L.) incorporation in rations on digestibility and fermentability parameters in the sheep rumen using an in vitro method. The experiment employed a Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and five replications. Treatment formulations consisted of R0 (60% grass + 40% concentrate), R1 (10% mango peel + 50% grass + 40% concentrate), R2 (20% mango peel + 40% grass + 40% concentrate), R3 (30% mango peel + 30% grass + 40% concentrate), and R4 (40% mango peel + 20% grass + 40% concentrate). Variables observed included dry matter and organic digestibility, volatile fatty acids (VFA) production, and ammonia (NH3) concentration. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance, followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test for treatments showing significant differences. Results demonstrated that mango peel supplementation had significant effects (P<0,05) on all measured parameters. Progressive increases in mango peel proportion systematically improved dry matter digestibility from 54,70% (R0) to 61,66% (R4) and organic matter digestibility from 67,22% (R0) to 74,29% (R4). VFA concentration exhibited significant enhancement with the highest value recorded in treatment R4 at 187,26 mM, while NH3 concentration decreased but remained within the optimal range for rumen microbial proliferation (5,49-8,88 mM). These findings suggest that mango peel shows considerable potential as an alternative feed ingredient that can be effectively incorporated up to 40% level in ruminant rations.

Abstract

Kudzu (Pueraria montana) merupakan tanaman yang memiliki nilai penting di bidang pertanian, kesehatan, dan lingkungan, namun juga dikenal sebagai spesies invasif di beberapa wilayah. Meskipun potensinya besar, perkembangan riset mengenai kudzu masih perlu dipetakan secara komprehensif untuk mengidentifikasi tren dan kolaborasi penelitian terkini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam mengenai aplikasi kudzu dalam berbagai bidang, baik untuk pengobatan tradisional, farmasi, maupun sebagai sumber energi terbarukan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan bibliometrik dengan menganalisis data publikasi terkait kudzu dari database Scopus periode 2020–2024. Analisis dilakukan melalui pemetaan coauthorship penulis dan negara, co-occurrence author keywords, citation mapping, serta bibliographic coupling pada tingkat dokumen dan penulis. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan jumlah publikasi tentang kudzu dalam periode tersebut. China dan Amerika Serikat tercatat sebagai negara paling produktif dan kolaboratif dalam riset kudzu. Penulis seperti Zhu Weifeng dan Guan Yongmei menempati posisi sentral dalam jaringan kolaborasi global. Tema penelitian yang dominan meliputi fitokimia, manfaat kesehatan, aplikasi bioteknologi, serta isu ekologi terkait invasi kudzu. Visualisasi co-occurrence author keywords mengindikasikan integrasi multidisipliner antara bidang biokimia, ekologi, dan teknologi pangan. Analisis citation mapping dan bibliographic coupling berhasil mengidentifikasi dokumen serta penulis kunci yang menjadi fondasi perkembangan pengetahuan kudzu. Studi ini menyoroti pentingnya kolaborasi internasional dan lintas disiplin dalam mempercepat inovasi serta mengarahkan penelitian kudzu ke arah yang lebih strategis dan berkelanjutan. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi peneliti dan pembuat kebijakan dalam mengidentifikasi tren, peluang kolaborasi, serta arah pengembangan riset kudzu di masa depan.

Abstract

Feed, as the main element that provides livestock nutrition, is composed of two components, namely, concentrate and forage. Examples of commonly used forages are king grass and dwarf elephant grass. These grasses are very familiar among farmers because they have good crude protein (CP) content; specifically, the CP content of king grass is 13,50% (Siswanto et al., 2016), and the CP content of dwarf elephant grass is 14,35% (Erleli, 2020). Forage production can be disrupted by weather factors. In the dry season, the production of king grass and dwarf elephant grass decreases by 50%. As a result, there is a forage crisis in the dry season. To overcome this, genetic improvement of king grass and dwarf elephant grass is possible. Previous research has succeeded in finding primers RM20A and RM241, each of which can lead to new traits in rice plants, namely, leaf rolling and plant height. This primer can be applied to king grass and dwarf elephant grass to increase the production potential of these plants and increase plant resistance in the dry season. This research uses the PCR technique to amplify primers from the template DNA of king grass and dwarf elephant grass. Optimization was carried out via several procedures due to species differences among rice, king grass and dwarf elephant grass. The results revealed that the RM241 primer could not be amplified at all in king grass plants and was amplified only in dwarf elephant grass. Moreover, the RM20A primer produced better results, where amplification could occur in both plants. This may be due to several factors, such as the condition of the DNA template, the condition of the materials and the possibility of human error. Amplification of the two primers also revealed that they were polymorphic, indicating that these two primers could not accurately amplify SSRs in king grass and dwarf elephant grass. This also causes many smears in the visualization of the PCR results. Overall, this research was able to determine the plant height and leaf rolling characteristics of king grass and dwarf elephant grass.
