Abstract

One of the turn-taking infractions in discourse is overlapping. It happens when the following speaker interrupts the present speaker while they are still speaking, so denying them their turn. Although overlap is still a common occurrence and many speakers are ignorant of its forms and causes, this does not imply that it is always troublesome because, depending on the circumstances, it can sometimes be unproblematic. As a result, they have been unable to effectively employ overlap between those who and do not interrupt the discourse. Thus, this study's goal is to classify the many types of overlap that are created and examine the reasons of overlap in the debate in the video "Messi VS Ronaldo - Is The Debate Finally Over?" Descriptive qualitative methodology was employed in this study, and documentation was the method of data collection. The primary theories that are employed are Schegloff's (2000) categories of overlap and Wardhaugh's (1985) explanations of overlap. The researcher discovered the kinds of overlap that took place and the underlying causes based on the data analysis of the dispute between the two football players. It is intended that this study would assist individuals in making appropriate use of overlap and avoiding overlap that might interfere with a interview

Abstract

Since the rise of the second wave of feminist movement, the contribution of women in professional fields has significantly increased. As women occupy these public roles, studies found that they can still adopt the distinct language, which Lakoff (1975) termed as women's language features. This research aimed to compare and analyze the use of these features among four popular professional public roles in the United States, namely, politician, businesswoman, lawyer, and artist. Furthermore, four figures are selected with consideration of one representative per each role. The figures were Kamala Harris, Indra Nooyi, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Selena Gomez, respectively. A qualitative method was employed, using interview transcripts and audio from YouTube videos. The analysis included all ten recognized features, such as lexical hedges, tag questions, intensifiers, empty adjectives, and others. These features were identified through close reading of the transcripts and careful listening to the audio, then categorized based on the original framework. The findings showed that there were variations in the frequency of feature occurrences across the roles. Moreover, the tendencies appeared to functioned the women's language features as a deliberate way to meet job requirements.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze patterns of action and the contribution of crime elements and clues as part of the pattern of action in Enola Holmes 2022. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with Cawelti's detective formula theory (1976) as the analytical framework. From the research results, researcher found some aspects of pattern of action which were grouped into several categories, namely detective introduction, crime and clues, investigation, announcement of solutions, explanation of solutions, and final resolution (denouement). The detective introduction category includes aspects that introduce the main character as an intelligent and independent young detective. In the crime and clues category, various elements were found that highlight how the crime is introduced and the clues are presented. The investigation category focuses on the search and information gathering process carried out by Enola. The solution announcement includes the moment where the solution to the mystery is revealed. The solution explanation details how Enola explains the steps taken to solve the case. The resolution category highlights how all the story elements tie together into one satisfying conclusion. This research shows that the Enola Holmes 2022 film uses pattern of action typical of the detective genre well to create an interesting story. Abstract

This study examined the accuracy and clarity of machine translation in the context of fictional texts, with a specific focus on the comic Academy’s Genius Swordmaster. Using Google Translate as the primary tool, a qualitative analysis was conducted to evaluate how effectively the machine translated the comic’s content. The results revealed that 63% of the translated text contained errors, with many issues related to accuracy such as overly literal translations, incorrect word choices, and loss of intended meaning. Problems with clarity were also frequent, as many sentences sounded unnatural, too formal, or awkward in Indonesian, disrupting the flow and making them harder to read. These shortcomings were particularly noticeable in emotional storytelling, where tone, character expression, and cultural nuance play a key role in delivering the intended message. The findings highlight that despite recent advancements, current MT systems still face significant challenges in rendering creative and context-sensitive texts. Future research could expand this work by testing multiple MT systems or exploring post-editing approaches to improve translation quality in fictional narratives.
