Abstract

A study to determine the best alternative substrate paper for testing seed viability in rolled paper method was conducted with 2 experiments. The first experiment studied the physical characteristic of six substrate papers, straw, filter, stencil, CD, HVS and Samson related to seed germination. The second experiment was conducted to identify the best alternative substrate for testing germination of different seeds. High and low viability of rice, maize, peanut, yardlong bean, chick pea and leafy vegetable seeds were tested with the substrate papers arranged in a Randomized  Block Design with three replications. The first experiment showed that CD and Stencil papers had good physical characters for germination substrate. Water absorption of CD and stencil papers were 28.1g and 24.4g per medium unit, lower than Straw paper (46.51 g/medium unit) but significantly higher than the international standard of filter paper  (20.7g/medium unit). In rolled paper test, no significant difference of water holding ability among the papers. Water lost during the 7 day testing were less than 2 g/medium unit for all of the papers. All of the papers including stencil and CD papers were homogenous with low coefficient of variation, less than 5%. The second experiment showed that different data of germination percentages and dry weight of normal seedlings were obtained from the diferrent subtrate papers. As compared to the common substrate straw paper, the stencil paper produced the most similar data, 100% and 91.7% similarities of germination percentage and  dry weight of normal seedlings, respectively, whereas the other papers performed 37.5 - 91.6% and 29.1 - 66.7%.   Key words:  Substrate paper, physical characteristic, seed viability testing.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools, as boarding institutions, are responsible for fulfilling the nutritional needs of their students, especially adolescent girls who require high intake for growth. Food portions that do not meet standards can cause energy and nutrient deficits, thus impacting nutritional status. This study aims to analyze food portion sizes, energy and nutrient consumption levels, nutritional status, and the relationship between variables in female students at one of the Islamic Boarding Schools in Singosari.. The study used a cross-sectional design with 41 respondents. Data were collected through weighing food portions for three days and 1x24-hour recalls, analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed that most staple food portions (51.2%), plant-based side dishes (78%), and all vegetable portions (100%) were insufficient. The level of energy consumption was classified as moderate deficit (36.6%), normal protein (39%), severe fat deficit (100%), normal carbohydrate (43.9%), and mild iron deficit (31.7%). Most students had normal nutritional status (90.2%). There was a significant relationship between staple food portions and energy and carbohydrate consumption levels, and plant-based side dish portions and protein consumption levels. As well as the level of energy, protein, and carbohydrate consumption with nutritional status (p<0.05).

Abstract

Developmental language disorder (DLD) is a disorder that affects children's language and/or speech abilities. The diagnosis of DLD usually appears at the age of 5 years and over, but signs of children at risk for DLD begin to appear at the age of 3 years or preschool years. Therefore, the teacher's role is needed in understanding and teaching preschool children at risk of DLD in teaching and learning activities. An intervention program in the form of a MENALI (Mengajar Anak dengan Resiko DLD) workshop was conducted at one of the kindergarten in West Jakarta to improve teacher teaching strategies for preschool children at risk of DLD. The results of the intervention show that this intervention has been shown to significantly improve teacher teaching strategies for preschoolers at risk of DLD. The results of the intervention follow-up also showed that there was progress in the language skills of preschoolers at risk of DLD.Developmental language disorder (DLD) merupakan gangguan perkembangan bahasa yang mempengaruhi kemampuan berbahasa dan/atau berbicara pada anak.

Abstract

The marketing of the products of a business in obtaining maximum profits will depend on the pattern of marketing channels. A business with good productivity will fail if the marketing is not good. One aspect of marketing that needs to be considered in an effort to increase goods from producers to consumers is marketing efficiency. The purpose of this study is to determine the pattern of marketing channels for anchovy fishermen's catches in Buajangka Village, South Bungku District, Morowali Regency, and to find out the marketing efficiency of anchovy fishermen's catches in Buajangka Village, South Bungku District, Morowali Regency. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research with a qualitative data analysis method in the form of exposure and also quantitative analysis in the form of calculations. To find out the pattern of Anchovy marketing channels and marketing margins, marketing channel analysis was used, while to find out the share of prices received by producers, fishernan's share analysis was used. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the pattern of anchovy marketing channels in Buajangka village, South Bungku District, Morowali Regency has three channels, namely, channel one: fishermen - retailers - consumers, channel two: fishermen - collectors - wholesalers, three channels: fishermen - collectors - wholesalers - consumers. Where channels one and two are said to be efficient and channel three is inefficient.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period filled with challenges and opportunities for cognitive, emotional, and social development. One crucial aspect influencing adolescent well-being is self-esteem, an individual's evaluation of their worth and value. Low self-esteem is often associated with cognitive distortions that can affect adolescents' emotions and behaviors, leading to anxiety, depression, and maladaptive behaviors. This study explores the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in enhancing self-esteem among adolescents. CBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that assists individuals in identifying and transforming maladaptive negative thought patterns into more realistic and adaptive ones. This research employs a case study method involving a 16-year-old adolescent with low self-esteem resulting from cognitive distortions about herself and her environment. The CBT intervention was conducted over six sessions, including psychoeducation, monitoring of thoughts and emotions, identification of cognitive distortions, and the development of new cognitive and behavioral skills. The results indicate a significant increase in the participant's self-esteem scores, measured using the Self-Perception Profile for Adolescents (SPPA) before and after the intervention. These findings suggest that CBT can be an effective intervention for enhancing adolescent self-esteem by equipping them with skills to manage emotions, alter negative thinking, and improve interpersonal relationships adaptively.

Abstract

Background:Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a global health problem with a continuously increasing prevalence and is strongly influenced by dietary patterns, particularly high energy intake, excessive simple sugars, and low fiber intake, which contribute to elevated postprandial glycemic responses. Effective management requires low-glycemic, nutrient-dense dietary interventions; however, commonly consumed processed foods, including instant cereals, often have high glycemic impacts. Therefore, the development of functional foods based on local ingredients such as plantain banana, soybean, and moringa leaves offers a promising strategy to support glycemic controlObjectives: This study aimed to formulate and evaluate an instant cereal based on plantain banana flour, soybean sprout flour, and moringa leaf flour (kepilor) that meets the dietary requirements for diabetes mellitus. Methods:  This study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three levels of plantain flour substitution (20%, 30%, and 40%), each conducted in triplicate. The parameters analyzed included organoleptic properties, yield, energy values, nutrient compositions, and energy densities. Nutrient composition was determined using standard methods (gravimetric, dry ashing, micro-Kjeldahl, Soxhlet, and carbohydrate by difference). Organoleptic evaluation was conducted using a 9-point hedonic scale with 30 semi-trained panelists, and the best treatment was determined using an effectiveness index test with 10 other trained panelists. Data were analyzed using ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test with p < 0.05Results:  The results showed that formulation variations did not significantly affect protein, fat, carbohydrate, and fiber contents (p>0.05), with values ranging from 5.57–5.65 g, 2.83–2.90 g, 17.92–18.12 g, and 0.21–0.29 g per serving, respectively. However, significant differences were observed in total energy (119.40–120.63 kcal), energy density (0.597–0.603 kcal/mL), and taste (p<0.05), with taste being the only sensory attribute significantly affected by formulation. The formulation containing 30% plantain banana flour (T2) was identified as the best treatment, providing 120.63 kcal per serving, 5.65 g protein, 2.90 g fat, 17.98 g carbohydrates, 0.29 g fiber, and an energy density of 0.603 kcal/mLConclusion: In conclusion, kepilor instant cereal has potential as a low-energy-density functional snack suitable for the dietary management of individuals with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

ABSTRACTTheophylline is a drug used in the management of asthma. It has relatively short half-life and narrow therapeutic index with 5-20 μg/mL serum concentration. Thus, Floating tablet formulations that can increase the bioavailability of the drug. The aims of this study were to determine the effect of the excipient (HPMC K4M CR and NaHCO3) to the quality of tablets and determine the optimum formula of theophylline floating tablet. A 22 randomized factorial design was used in development of theophylline floating tablet with HPMC K4M CR (A) and NaHCO3 (B) as independent variables. The flowability of mass tablet, floating character, and dissolution profile were chosen as dependent variables. The results showed that NaHCO3 was the most important factor on increasing flowability of mass tablet. HPMC K4M CR was the dominant factor in lowering the Flag time, improving integrity of the tablet, and decreasing the release of drug. The composition of HPMC K4M CR 40.00 mg and NaHCO3 35.39 mg produced the optimum formula of theophylline floating tablet with desirability value of 0.978.
