Abstract

The increase in the volume of catches and the price of mackerel in Bandar Lampung in recent years can encourage more intensive and exploitative fishing efforts. The aims of this study is analyze the length-weight relationship, condition factors, and growth patterns of Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) landed at the Lempasing Fishing Port, as basic information for the management of R. kanagurta resources in the waters of Lampung Bay and its surroundings. Samples of Indian mackerel were obtained from fishs landed at Lempasing Fishing Port during July-Sept 2022. The fish samples were measured for length and weight, then analyzed for length distribution, condition factors and length-weight relationships. The length of the fish landed at the Lempasing Fishing Port ranged from 170–282 mm. The smallest fish size in the class interval 170-184 mm. The size of the most caught fish are in the class interval of 230–240 mm. The highest condition factor value of 1.02 was found in the smallest fish class interval. Condition factor showed that the values were not significantly different from 1. The equation of length-weight relationship is W=0.0017L2.086 with a determination coefficient value (R²) of 0.811. The growth pattern is negative allometric. This illustrates that Indian mackerel landed at the Lempasing Fishing Port tended to be thin. Further research related to reproductive patterns, gonadal maturity index, composition of catch number, catch productivity periodicly and sustainable is urgently needed for precise and sustainable management of Indian mackerel resources.

Abstract

The phenomenon of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in the Lampung Bay has been reported by many researchers. The occurrence of HABs may be due to the increase of nutrient (N and P) as results of waste water of aquaculture (shrimp farms, hatcheries and fish cage farms). This study aimed to determine the relationship between N and P concentrations in some aquaculture sites with harmful algal blooms. The analysis revealed the differences concentration of N and P at each different shrimp farms and fish cage farms sites (Hurun, Sidodadi, Ringgung, and Cikunyinyi Bay). The result showed that the increase of N and P concentration were followed by the increase of harmful phytoplankton populations. High density HABs were found in this study, such as: Ceratium furca with the highest density at 5.314 x 106 cells/l, Trichodesmium erithraeum 1.05 x 105 cells/l and Noctiluca scintilans 5.99 x 104 cells/l. The Multiple regression and canonical corelation analysis (CCA) also indicated a strong positive relationship between N and P with the HABs at the shrimp farms and fish cage farms sites in the Lampung Bay.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Grouper Epinephelus sp. farming activities in Lampung Bay is limited to an area of 77 hectares, while areas that are potential to be used for grouper farming are still very wide. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the suitability of Lampung Bay waters for grouper farming activities. The study was conducted in 20 stations with ecological preference considerations. The parameters observed were physicochemical (water depth, temperature, water transparency, the load of suspended solids, pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, nitrate, and phosphate) and biological parameters (phytoplankton abundance and chlorophyll-a concentration). After the data were completely obtained, the data were processed into suitability matrix resulting in scores that will be grouped into four classes, namely S1 (highly suitable), S2 (moderately suitable), S3 (marginally suitable), N (not suitable). The geostatistical model was used to perform the earth’s surface mapping based on biotic and abiotic parameters that were analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis in this study, the conditions of Lampung Bay waters were suitable for grouper farming activities. Marine area that could be used for grouper farming was 33,847.12 hectares (S1: 15,712.6 ha, S2: 13,294.7 ha and S3: 4,209.82 ha) in the area around Puhawang Island, Kelagian Island, Maitem Island, Tegal Island to Hurun Bay. Keywords: Lampung Bay, grouper, suitability analysis, fish farming   ABSTRAK Kegiatan budidaya ikan kerapu Epinephelus sp. di Teluk Lampung masih terbatas pada lahan seluas 77 hektar, sedangkan lahan yang berpotensi digunakan untuk budidaya ikan kerapu masih sangat luas. Abstract

Microplastics are plastic particles formed from plastic degradation to a size of <5 mm. Microplastics in waters can have adverse effects on marine organisms, aquatic ecosystems, and humans. This study aims to determine the shape, size, color, abundance, and distribution of microplastics and to determine the relationship between water quality and the abundance of microplastics in the waters of Pasaran Island. The study was conducted in November-December 2022 in the waters of Pasaran Island. Preparation and identification of microplastics in water samples were carried out in the following stages: sample preparation, organic material degradation, density separation, sample sorting, and observation of microplastic types. Data analysis was carried out using the principle component analysis (PCA) method using the Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS) version 24 with physical and chemical parameters of the waters. Based on the study, 4 forms of microplastics were obtained, namely fiber, fragments, films, and pellets. The form of microplastic that dominated the four stations was the fiber form at 45.1%. The highest abundance of microplastics was at Station 2 (mangrove ecosystem) at 22.63 particles/liter. PCA analysis showed that the abundance of microplastics in the form of fibers, fragments, films, and pellets was negatively related to pH, salinity, current, temperature, and brightness. Increasing public awareness in reducing the use of single-use plastics and managing plastic waste needs to be done to reduce the abundance of microplastics in the waters of Pasaran Island.

Abstract

The Sekampung Watershed is one of the 108 critical national watersheds designated by the government as requiring restoration of its carrying capacity. In addition to restoration challenges, a lack of coordination among various institutions has led to fragmented and uncoordinated efforts in watershed conservation. Addressing these, researching the institutional aspects of sustainable management by synergistic governance across sectors in the Sekampung watershed is crucial. This study aimed to determine the key institutions directly involved in the sustainable management of the Sekampung Watershed in Lampung Province, along with their coordination mechanisms and interrelationships. This study also aimed to identify constraints in the sustainable management implementation of the Sekampung watershed. The study employed the Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM) method using questionnaires and expert discussions. The results show that the key institutions in the integrated management of the watershed to ensure the Sekampung Watershed’s functions are preserved and sustainably utilized were the provincial government institutions, governor, regent, mayor, together with the Provincial and Regency or City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park Authority (BBTNBBS), and the Way Seputih Way Sekampung Watershed and Forest Management Agency (BPDAS HL WSS). The low awareness care of the community towards watershed management was identified as a critical constraint that must be addressed for the successful sustainable management of the Way Sekampung Watershed. Keywords: institutional analysis, interpretative structural modelling, protected forest, Sekampung Watershed, stakeholder
