Abstract

This study explores the historical and contemporary practices of abortion, focusing on the legal and psychological implications for rape victims and the role of doctors as executors. Abortion has been practiced since ancient times using various methods across different cultures. Modern discussions about abortion remain contentious, especially concerning the rights of rape victims who often face severe psychological trauma. The primary objective of this research is to examine the evolution of abortion laws in Indonesia, particularly those providing legal protection for medical professionals. This normative juridical research employs statute and conceptual approaches to analyze laws, regulations, and legal doctrines, connecting them with current positive law to address the main thesis issues. Key findings indicate that Indonesian laws have progressively recognized the necessity of abortion in specific circumstances, culminating in the 2023 amendments to the Criminal Code and Health Law. These legal frameworks aim to protect women's mental health and uphold their human rights, as enshrined in international conventions. The research concludes that although legal provisions for abortion have progressed, there is still a need for improved implementation and support systems to safeguard medical professionals due to lingering ambiguities in the law.

Abstract

Background: Dry eye disease prevalence is significantly influenced by smoking, with cigarette smoke contributing to over seven million deaths annually. Despite the widespread use of electronic cigarettes, public awareness remains limited, and debates persist regarding their safety and long-term health implications, highlighting the urgent need for improved health measures. Methods: This systematic review complied with the PRISMA 2020 requirements, concentrating solely on full-text papers published in English from 2014 to 2024. Editorials and review articles lacking a DOI were omitted to guarantee the use of high-quality sources. A comprehensive literature review was performed using esteemed databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, and SagePub to locate pertinent studies. Result: An initial database search identified more than 60 publications relevant to the topic. Following a meticulous three-stage screening process, eight studies were ultimately selected based on predefined inclusion criteria and deemed appropriate for in-depth analysis. These studies underwent a thorough critical appraisal to ensure their quality and relevance, providing a solid foundation for a comprehensive investigation into the association between cigarette smoking and dry eye disease. Conclusion: DED, a common ophthalmology condition, is often underdiagnosed due to its nonspecific symptoms and variability in diagnostic approaches. Cigarette smoke causes lipid peroxidation, tear film instability, and ocular surface damage, impairing epithelial differentiation.

Abstract

Parents play an important role during online learning during the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, there are still not many studies that examine parents' perspectives regarding online learning. Therefore, this study aims to examine the perspective of parents regarding the problems experienced by students during online mathematics learning. Participants in this study were 47 parents of students whose ages ranged from 35 to 50 years. The instrument used was an interview guide in the form of a semi-structured interview. Data were analyzed using NVivo-12-assisted thematic analysis. The results of the study show that parents think students have problems in terms of low understanding of math material and children learning less than optimally while at home. However, some parents also revealed that there were no obstacles during online learning during the Pandemic. The results of this study then recommend that parents immediately provide information to the teacher when they find that children cannot solve problems and parents cannot help children in solving these math problems.

Abstract

Excise is state income that is not included in the tax bracket. Excise on tobacco products is part of excisable goods. Determination of excise rates for tobacco products is determined in Law No. 39 of 2007 in addition to further Minister Finance of Regulation 191/PMK.010/2022 governs this. When determining the excise rates tobacco on products, issues arise with respect to things like the steadily rising tax excise rates on tobacco products, the relationship between the vertical excise tax regulations on tobacco products and the effects of the steadily rising tobacco product excise rates on the emergence of illicit cigarettes. The purpose of this study is to investigate issues with tobacco product excise in order to reduce the spread of illicit cigarettes, which cause losses for the state. A conceptual, statutory, and normative legal approach are all combined in the study technique. The Ministry of Finance's examination of its fiscal strategy, which takes into account a number of criteria, is the basis for the causes driving up tax rates on tobacco goods. The legislation governing tobacco product excise tax rates and the guidelines set forth by the minister of finance are irreconcilable. There is no denying that the effects of tobacco product excise taxes contribute to the distribution of illicit cigarettes. Keywords: Excise rates of tobacco products; correlation of excise rates; Illegal Cigarettes;.

Abstract

This research examines the genealogy of Islamic secularism in Indonesia in the period 1920–1945 with a focus on the background of the emergence, changes, and continuity of the discourse. This study uses Karl Mannheim's sociology of knowledge approach to trace the origins of Islamic secularist thought and Michel Foucault's archaeology of knowledge to analyze the dynamics of continuity and discontinuity of discourse over time. The results show that the discourse of Islamic secularism developed in three main periods. First, in the 1920s, the discourse of Islamic secularism began to emerge through Javanese nationalism. Second, in the period from 1930 to early 1945, nationalism developed by emphasizing love and willingness to make sacrifices for the country. Third, in 1945, the discourse of Islamic secularism grew stronger along with the establishment of the nation state and Pancasila as the basis of the state. This study shows a continuity in Islamic secularism in the form of a separation between politics and religion (Islam), as well as changes in the form of discourse that developed in each period. This finding contributes to the study of Islamic thought in Indonesia by highlighting the dynamics of secularism discourse in a broader socio-political context.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimal location of the LRT Musi Emas Feeder stops Corridor 5 in conjunction with the LRT DJKA Station-Plaju Terminal route. Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a rapid transit system that employs an integrated rail crossing model. At present, the LRT remains a primary mode of daily transportation for the residents of Palembang. One of the initiatives undertaken by the government to facilitate the utilization of LRT transportation is the provision of passenger transportation (feeder services). The positioning of the feeder stops remains suboptimal and needs more integration with existing public facilities. The distance between the stop locations is highly variable, with some nearby and others at considerable distances. This issue is addressed through the formulation of the Set Covering Problem (SCP) model, which encompasses the Set Covering Location Problem (SCLP) and Maximal Covering Location Problem (MCLP) models, as well as the development of the Improved SCLP model. The SCP model yields four optimal stop locations, which are significantly distant from the actual conditions at the site. In contrast, the Improved SCLP model identifies 48 optimal feeder stops mapped using Geographic Information System (GIS) software. This map of feeder stops could inform the Palembang City Transportation Agency’s efforts to develop an integrated transportation management system.
