Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the development of environmentally friendly bioplastics made from polylactic acid (PLA) reinforced with banana peel flour. Four filler concentrations (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% wt) were fabricated using injection molding and evaluated through tensile testing (ASTM D638), FTIR spectroscopy, and soil burial biodegradation. Pure PLA showed the highest tensile strength (26.23 MPa) but had the lowest elongation (6.33%) and biodegradation rate (12.8%). Adding 10-20 wt% filler increased stiffness, with the elastic modulus rising from 21.24 MPa to 38.12-26.63 MPa, while maintaining moderate flexibility. The 30 wt% composite demonstrated the most balanced performance, achieving 67.24 MPa tensile strength, 40.12 MPa modulus, 11.49% elongation, and the highest mass loss (20.2%). FTIR results showed a C=O shift from 1743.44 to 1720.46 cm⁻¹ and broad O–H bands, confirming hydrogen bonding and improved interfacial adhesion. Overall, banana peel flour is a promising sustainable filler for PLA-based bioplastics.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: : Dental caries is a disease of the hard tissues of the teeth characterized by demineralization and destruction of tooth tissue. This damage begins on the tooth surface and can extend to the pulp. Root canal treatment must have a good fluid tight seal. This is achieved by using a post-root canal obturation base. This base  uses resin modified glass ionomer cement because it has good biocompatibility and setting time with dual cure. Purpose: To determine the microleakage of resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) as a post-root canal obturation base material with a base thickness of 1 mm and 2 mm. Method: This study was a pure experimental study with a post-test-only with control design. This study used 14 mandibular first premolars divided into 2 groups, namely group 1 with a base thickness of 1 mm and group 2 with a base thickness of 2 mm. Results: The average microleakage value on a 1 mm base thickness was 0.0629 and the microleakage value on a 2 mm base thickness was 0.3271. Conclution: The result of the unpaired T-test showed a significant difference in microleakage between the 1 mm base group and the 2 mm base group. The lowest microleakage was on a 1mm base and the highest microleakage was on a 2 mm base. Abstract

This study explores the influence of academic pressure on college students’ emotional well-being and academic performance, with particular attention to the role of negative emotions. Academic pressure often arises from multiple sources, including heavy academic workloads, high parental expectations, strong self-imposed expectations, and limited peer support. These pressures may create challenging learning conditions that affect students’ emotional states and their ability to perform academically. Drawing on students’ narratives as the primary data source, this study examines how academic pressure contributes to stress, anxiety, fear of failure, and tendencies toward social withdrawal. The study aims to examine seven key aspects related to academic pressure, including negative emotional experiences, sources of academic stress, and the relationships between parental expectations, self-expectations, workload demands, and peer support in shaping students’ stress levels. Participants were selected using proportional stratified random sampling to represent diverse student groups. The findings indicate that high parental expectations often encourage perfectionism and fear of failure, while high self-expectations are associated with feelings of inadequacy and frustration. Heavy workloads contribute to academic burnout, reflected in emotional exhaustion, and reduced motivation. Limited peer support further intensifies negative emotions and weakens students’ sense of belonging.

Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD), a recognized complication of pyelolithotomy along with multimorbidity in the elderly population, presents a higher incidence of oral lesions. Further damage to the renal vasculature interchangeably affects oral-systemic conditions. We report oral lesions management in MCC patient post-pyelolithotomy for better outcomes.  Case: A 65-year-old male patient complained of painful ulceration on the atrophic tongue for two weeks with a fair oral hygiene score. The condition had been managed with various topical agents alternately with no improvement. There was a history of pyelolithotomy and emergency room admission. Laboratory examination presented diabetes mellitus, stage 3B kidney disease and anemia of chronic disease. A diagnosis of ulcerative-type uremic stomatitis with atrophic glossitis in multimorbid patient was obtained. Pharmacotherapy of oral lesion including aloe vera extract mouthwash and povidone-iodine mouthwash showed improvement on the following day. Behavioural-modifying lifestyle involved physical activity, healthy eating, and adherence to treatment (oral hygiene maintenance and regular dental appointment). Systemic conditions were managed by multidiscipline treatment with Internal Medicine. Conclusion: Pharmacotherapy and behavioral modifying lifestyle may support a better prognosis for oral manifestation in multimorbid patient post pyelolithotomy
