Abstract

Ngurah Rai Forest Park, is one of the remaining mangrove ecosystems located in the Benoa Bali Bay, Indonesia. Ecosystem in this forest park is threathened due to the construction of Bali Mandara Highway. This  study was conducted to determine the impact of the construction of the Bali Mandara Highway to the mangrove ecosystem in Ngurah Rai Forest Park. In this study, qualitative method was applied in order to compare the environmental parameter of mangrove ecosystem before and after construction of the highway. The construction of the Bali Mandara Highway affects several physical parameters of the mangrove ecosystem. The salinity, pH value and DO content are physical parameters which decreasing after the contruction. The decreasing also identified for current velocity,  during the high tide  current velocity decline to 0 - 0.44 m/s while during the low tide it goes down to 0 - 0.84 m/s. On the other hand, sedimentation area increases by 485.62 ha which causes silting. The vegetation analysis shows that Bali Mandara Highway has no significant impact to the diversity of mangrove species in Ngurah Rai Forest Park. Sonneratia alba still dominate the mangrove vegetation in those area.

Abstract

Title: Sustainability Analysis of Mariculture Management in Saleh Bay of Sumbawa DistrictThis study aimed at determiny value of the index and the sustainability status in terms of economic dimension and provide recommendations for policies on marine aquaculture management in the Saleh Bay. Rap-Insus-Seaweed (Rapid Appraisal of Sustainability-Index Seaweed) and Rap-Insus-Grouper (Rapid Appraisal of Sustainability-Index Grouper) modified from Rapfish program were use in this study. Results showed that the index level of sustainability in terms of economic dimension were “39.74” and “31.23” for seaweed grouper  espectively. This value laid between 25.00 and 49.9 indicating that both management status were “Less Sustainable”. These values indicate that the economic conditions of that particular site was not support sustainable management of the marine aquaculture. Hence, government policing intervention through increased capital, technical training in aquaculture and processing as well as improvement in market institution are required.

Abstract

Tide is one of the important factors that affect the oceanographic processes around widely as waters flow. Tides also give significant effects against the dynamic of coastal area. This research was conducted considering the importance roles of tides data against all oceanographic phenomenon that gives the effects on activities around the area of coastal waters. This research was conducted around the area of east coast of Bintan Island Riau Archipelago Province in December 2017. Tidal data is retrieved from the global tidal modelling uses MIKE 21. The results of the analysis show the range of tidal height on the east coast of Bintan Island during 2007-2017 is 0.70-3.50 m of height range with the average of mean sea level (MSL) is 2.20-2.60 m. Generally, tidal fluctuations on east coast of Bintan Island form an asymmetric pattern which is a common pattern occurring in any waters. The tidal type of the east coast of Bintan Island is mixed predominantly semi diurnal with the value of formzahl number in each station respectively is 1.19-1.44. The interesting phenomenon obtained from this research is during 2007-2017 the maximum of sea level height in each station tends to decrease, this is considered attractive because over the past 20 years earth surface temperature have tended to increase so that melting of ice in polar has implications for increasing of sea water volume. Abstract

Total suspended solid (TSS) is one of the water quality parameters and limiting factor affecting coral reef growth. In this study, we used the algorithm of TSS= 3.3238*e(34.099* Green band) (where green band is reflectance band 2) to extract TSS from Landsat satellite data. The algorithm was validated with field data. Water column correction method developed by Lyzenga was used to map coral reef. The result showed that the coral reef area in Berau waters decreased significantly (about 12,805 ha or around 36 % ) from the year of 1979 to 2002. The most coral reef reduced area was detected around Derawan Island (about 5,685 ha). Further, some areas changed into sand dune. TSS concentration around Delta Berau and Derawan Island increased aproximately twice from 15- 35 mg/l in 1979 to 20-65 mg/l in 2002. The increase of TSS concentration was followed by the decrease of coral reef area.

Abstract

The Java Coastal Current (JCC) is valuable information since its supplies water mass to South Indonesian water. The data analysis was done using temperature, salinity and depth informations from CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth). Those informations was calculated based on Neuman and Pierson (1966) with 600 db in reference level, in order to obtain the dynamic topography and geostrophy velocity. The results showed that there was a dynamic depth divergence between shore and the off shore, both was occured in Northwest monsoon and Southeast monsoon. Hence it was acting as a trigger of the geostrophy current toward Southeast with maximum velocity was 18.81 cms -1 and 1.53 sv of transport volume.
