Abstract

Abstract

Objective:  This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the Dhysning (Dynamic Hybrid System for Integrating Glocal Wisdom) application, which integrates the local wisdom of the Boranan Lamongan Dance into physics learning, specifically on the topic of rigid body equilibrium. Method: The development of the Dhysning application followed the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, and Development). The application was designed using Adobe Flash CS6 and included teaching modules, interactive multimedia, student worksheets, virtual laboratory simulations, and quizzes. The research was conducted through a limited trial involving three classes and three physics teachers at senior high school. Data were collected through response questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to examine the construct validity and reliability of student responses. Results: The results show that the application effectively supports science learning with strong student engagement. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure of 0.638 and Bartlett's test of significance (p < 0.001) confirmed the suitability of the data for factor analysis. Eight factors were extracted, explaining 78.63% of the total variance, with an overall Cronbach's Alpha of 0.884, indicating high internal consistency. Students showed positive responses toward the contextual content, visual interactivity, and cultural relevance of the learning media. Novelty: This study introduces a glocalized science learning approach by incorporating regional cultural elements into physics education through interactive technology. It bridges local cultural identity with global scientific competencies, fostering deeper student engagement and scientific literacy in a unique and meaningful way.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically analyze the role of the Guided Inquiry model in improving students' critical thinking skills in physics education in Indonesia, while also identifying current research trends, implementation strategies, and gaps in the literature. The study employed a systematic literature review (SLR) using the PRISMA framework, complemented by a bibliometric analysis, to substantiate the results. Articles were retrieved from the SINTA, DOAJ, and Google Scholar databases with a publication period from 2018 to early 2025 using the Boolean string (“inkuiri terbimbing” OR “guided inquiry”) AND (“berpikir kritis” OR “critical thinking” OR “higher-order thinking skills”). Of the 117 articles identified, 27 met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. The analysis was descriptive, based on the year of publication, research design, educational level, instruments, and data analysis methods, as well as bibliometric mapping using VOSviewer to identify research clusters and emerging gaps. The results of the study show that the guided inquiry model is most commonly used at the upper secondary level, often employing quasi-experimental research designs, particularly pre-test-post-test control groups, and data analysis methods such as t-tests and N-gain. The dominant instrument is the essay test, although it has the disadvantage of subjectivity in assessment. The bibliometric visualization reveals that keywords such as critical thinking, guided inquiry model, and data analysis are the focus of research, while the aspect of practical applicability remains relatively underinvestigated. Another interesting finding is that the assessment indicators show the highest increase, as guided inquiry encourages students to compare the experiment results with the theoretical framework. In contrast, the self-regulation indicators show the lowest increase, which is attributed to a lack of reflective exercises and the limitations of the assessment tools. Overall, guided inquiry has proven effective in promoting various dimensions of critical thinking, especially in physics topics that require logical thinking and data analysis. However, the aspect of self-reflection is not yet sufficiently addressed and requires more attention in lesson design and assessment strategies. This study contributes to the field by providing a systematic and bibliometric mapping of the relevant literature, which can serve as a reference for teachers, researchers, and policymakers in designing more innovative, context-based physics lessons focused on strengthening 21st-century skills.    Keywords: guided inquiry, critical thinking skills, physics learning.

Abstract

Low levels of student engagement and scientific reasoning skills in science education remain a major concern in higher education. This study aims to explore university students' responses after participating in science learning facilitated by the Data-Based Learning Cycle (DaBeLCy) model. The participants were students from three different universities enrolled in introductory physics courses that implemented the DaBeLCy approach. A survey method was employed using a structured questionnaire designed to assess five key aspects: students' perceptions of the model, conceptual understanding, scientific reasoning skills, learning engagement, and the perceived supportiveness of the learning environment. The results revealed that most students responded positively to the implementation of the DaBeLCy model. They reported improved conceptual understanding, greater engagement during class activities, and enhanced critical thinking skills. Furthermore, both the learning environment and lecturer support were perceived as conducive to the effective application of the model. These findings suggest that the DaBeLCy model is well-received by students and holds strong potential for improving the quality of science education in higher education. Further studies are recommended to examine its effectiveness across diverse learning contexts and disciplines.

Abstract

The low level of students' critical thinking and argumentation skills has attracted attention. This study aims to analyze the improvement of students' critical thinking skills by implementing argumentation-based assessment as an innovative learning strategy. The method used is a quantitative descriptive study involving 28 grade XI MIPA students, using essay tests and questionnaires as data collection instruments. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially through N-gain calculations and paired t-tests to measure the improvement of critical thinking skills. The results showed an increase in critical thinking skills from the poor and sufficient categories in the pre-test stage to good and very good categories in the post-test stage, with an average N-gain of 55% which is included in the moderate category and a paired t-test significance value <0.05 which indicates a significant difference. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of argumentation-based assessment in developing critical thinking skills while contributing to the development of relevant contextual learning strategies to improve scientific literacy and meet the demands of 21st-century competencies.
