Abstract

This research aims to describe the influences of TPS model and reading interest of class VIII student of SMP Negeri 31 Padang about their skills of writing explanatory text. This research type is quantitative research with 2x2 factorial experiment design. The population of this research is all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 31 Padan. The data collects by using two methods. The analysis and discussion of the data apply descriptive-analysis method in accordance with the concept of experimental research. Based on the research the writer concludes that from explanatory text writing, the students who have high reading interest and low reading interest whom applies TPS model have higher reading interest than the students that using conventional learning methods. Furthermore, there is no interaction between TPS model with reading interest in influencing the learning outcomes of the students' in explanatory text writing skills.

Abstract

Absolute synonymy never encountered in any language. The near synonyms still have different meanings, though only in nuances. If there is no difference in nuance between the pairs of synonyms then one of the words will disappear from the vocabulary. This study aims to explain the nuances of meaning and kind of pair synonym sensory response in Indonesian adjektive. This research is a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed that: (1) not all sensory responses Indonesian adjectives have a pairs synonym; (2) there are different nuance of meaning in every pair of synonymous sensory response adjektive; and (3) only two kind of synonymy in pairs synonymous sensory response adjectives was found, they are complete and absolute, and incomplete and not absolute. Synonyms word can concretize the use a personal language, so that trought language the communication is clear interesting. Paying attention to nuances of meaning that is synonymous Indonesian adjectives in speaking and writing can add color, sharpness, and precision of the wording.

Abstract

Coverage on certain mass media allegedly marginalizes women victims of rape. The purpose of this study was to to describe the gender perspective in the news of rape on the Harian Haluan. This writing analyzes reports of rape in the mass media using the method of critical discourse analysis model Sara Mills. The results showed (1) the position of women in the news of rape on the dominant Harian Haluan as the object of telling and (2) the gender ideology in the news of rape on Harian Haluan is patriarchy ideology. Most of the news of rape contains the assumption that men have power over women so women tend to be inferior and subordinated. Furthermore, the alignment of journalists in the news of rape on Harian Haluan, it was concluded that journalists tend to side with the perpetrators of rape.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a multimedia learning narrative writing that is valid, practical, and effective for use by students. This type of research is a development study, which develops multimedia learning using the 4D development model that begins with the defining, designing, developing, and deploying stages. Instruments used in this study are questionnaires, observation sheets, and performance tests. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion can be concluded as follows. First, the validity of developed multimedia is quite valid that is the percentage 82.63%. Second, the developed multimedia practicability is very practical with the percentage of 81.75%. Third, the effectiveness of multimedia developed is effective with the percentage of 78,72% with 49 people from 51 students from two test schools reaching value above the national standardization. Thus, the multimedia that has been developed can be used as a teaching medium in learning Indonesian especially narrative writing materials.

Abstract

Understanding of the meaning in language to communicate is very important for language speakers. A speaker who does not understand the benefits of the language can lead to errors when communicating understanding. Moreover, the words used are synonyms. Some studies related to synonymy shows that different forms will have a different meaning. The purpose of this study is to explain the nuances of a transitive verb affixes meN-, -i partner meaning synonymous in Indonesian. This type of research is qualitative descriptive method. Of the 69 data obtained from various sources, there are six pairs of a transitive verb affixes meN-, -i synonymous. The results showed that: (a) not all transitive verbs affixes meN-, -i in Indonesian have a partner that is synonymous; (b) not found transitive verb affixes meN-, -i manifold absolute synonyms; (c) was found transitive verb affixes meN-, -i nuanced meaning both cognitive and emotive meaning. This means that not all of synonyms can be used to replace the partner. Speakers suggested to deepen in understanding the nuances of meaning in synonyms in order to choose the appropriate word.
