Abstract

This study aimed to describe the planning and action processes of health, sports, and physical education (henceforth penjasorkes) at junior high school as an effort of implanting character values. This research was conducted at four Public Junior High Schools (henceforth SMPN) in the Municipality of Surakarta, Central Java. The subjects of the study were 30 penjasorkes teachers, 117 respective students, and documents of teaching-learning devices. This was a descriptive research study. The techniques employed for collecting data were observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentary study. The results of this study show that most teachers did not have any teaching-learning plan which matched the school condition. Teachers prepared their lesson plan just to fulfill the requirements of teaching-learning administration. The penjasorkes teaching-learning processes that had been carried out by the teachers so far stressed more on the teachers’ skill and performance. They mostly applied authoritarian approaches supported by some standard learning facilities. The character values implanted through this typical approach developed without any learning modification, it merely stressed on disciplinary trait as the main value. Other character values were developed neither through habit nor deep intervention during the teaching-learning processes.

Abstract

The goals to be achieved through this research is to result in a product in the form of a model of learning to play in the Health, Sports, and Physical Education (PJOK) in Primary School (SD). This learning model is expected to motivate and appeal learners to learn PJOK which in turn can be a means of internalizing the character values for learners. This study uses research and development approach developed by Borg and Gall. In this research and development design, there were 10 steps that should be implemented. For the benefit of this study, the researcher simplified the ten steps of research and development from Borg and Gall into three stages, namely (1) preliminary study, (2) model development, and (3) assessing the effectiveness of the model. As for the learning design model, this study refers to Dick, Carey, and Carey (2009). The trial employed a small group of students of SDN 15 and SDN 16 Laweyan. The full trial employed a large number of learners of SDN 15 Laweyan, SDN 16 Laweyan, SD N Sumber I and SD N Sumber II. The test of the effectiveness was conducted in SDN 15 Laweyan attended by 32 students and the final product was disseminated in an international seminar. Instruments for gathering data were questionnaire and observation guidelines. Simple quantitative descriptive analysis techniques were employed to analyze the data. The results obtained in this research and development is an increase of scores from the first effectiveness test to the second one. The results of this research and development leads to some conclusions as follows: (1) The model of learning to play is capable of improving character values of hard work, discipline, tolerance, caring, creativity, honesty, friendship, responsibility; (2) The model learning to play is very effective as efforts to internalize the character values of hard work, discipline, tolerance, caring, creativity, honesty, friendship, and responsibility in learning Health, Sports, and Physical Education (PJOK) that is based on character education in primary schools.

Abstract

Background: Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is a common condition experienced by 50-80% of pregnant women between 6 to 12 weeks of pregnancy. Acupressure stimulation can stimulate and increase blood circulation and vital energy, so as to maintain normal body functions. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of acupressure on hyperemesis gravidarum and labor pain in pregnant and childbirth women. Subjects and Method: This was a meta-analysis and systematic study. The articles used were obtained from PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The inclusion criteria used were full text articles with Randomized Control Trial (RCT) design. Research subjects are pregnant women or giving birth. The intervention given was acupressure with the comparison not being given acupressure or fake acupressure, articles published in English and Indonesian. The PICO research problems were as follows: Population= pregnant women and childbirth, Intervention= giving acupressure, Comparison= sham acupressure or without acupressure, Outcome= reduced intensity of nausea and vomiting and labor pain. The study was conducted using an effect size (Standardized Mean Difference). Meta-analysis was carried out using RevMan 5.3 with a random effect model. Results: A total of 20 articles were reviewed in a meta-analysis in this study. Meta-analysis of 9 articles showed acupressure was effective in reducing hyperemesis gravidarum. Pregnant women who received acupressure therapy experienced hyperemesis gravidarum 0.8 units lower than those without acupressure (SMD=-0.84; 95% CI= -1.18 to -0.5; p<0.001). A meta-analysis of 11 articles showed that acupressure was effective in reducing labor pain. Pregnant women who received acupressure therapy experienced labor pain 1.8 units lower than without acupressure (SMD= -1.83; 95% CI= -2.37 to -1.29; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Acupressure can reduce the intensity of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women who experience hyperemesis gravidarum as well as the intensity of labor pain in pregnant women.

Abstract

Infections of the nervous system, such as acute bacterial meningitis, pose serious health problems that require immediate intervention. In experimental animals, exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is used to induce meningitis. Aside from drug intervention to reduce inflammation in meningitis, aerobic exercise helps to maintain the regulatory mechanisms of brain homeostasis through anti-inflammatory mechanisms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise on malondialdehyde (MDA), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), apoptosis, and spatial memory. A four-week experimental study was conducted using 18 rats, which were randomly divided into three different groups (six rats per group): healthy rats as negative controls (non-meningitis), a treatment group treated with antibiotic treatment (meningitis group), and a third group (aerobic exercise group) treated with antibiotics and aerobic exercise following LPS-induced meningitis. Data were analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, and the comparison between groups used the Bonferroni post-hoc test. The results showed that aerobic exercise significantly reduced MDA (p<0.001), NF-κB (p=0.035), and apoptosis (p=0.020) while increasing the serum levels of IGF-1 (p<0.001), eNOS (p=0.011), and BDNF (p=0.001) levels. Improvement in spatial memory was significant in the aerobic exercise group (p<0.001). This study suggested that aerobic exercise could be a promising adjunct therapy in meningitis management strategies, particularly due to its effect on improving spatial memory. Further clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings for clinical use.

Abstract

Resilience in motorcycle adventure activities in each individual requires resilience to face challenges. However, this motorcycle activity has many failures and problems that usually bring up emotions. The purpose of this research was to examine the resilience of community members participating in motor adventure activities. Mixed-methods research was used, with a sequential explanatory research basic design. This study began with quantitative methods and proceeded to qualitative methods. A questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data, while an interview was used to acquire qualitative data. The accumulated interpretation of scores obtained on emotion regulation was 75% (high), impulse control 82% (very high), optimism 84% (very high), causal analysis 82% (very high), empathy 71% (high), self-efficacy 78% (high), and reaching out 87% (very high). This research is limited to the sample used and the scope of research is limited to one area or community. Future research can broaden the scope of research by exploring the factors that influence the resilience of different motorcycle adventure actors, such as psychological, social, and environmental factors. In addition, research can be focused on efforts to increase the resilience of motorcycle adventure actors, such as through training or education programs. The results of this study provide consideration, support, and contribution of ideas to stakeholders to increase the resilience of adventure motorcycle actors in facing challenges in their activities.
