Abstract

Creative thinking in students is essential in the learning process. It can help students discover new ways to understand and solve problems. Through creative thinking, students do not merely focus on finding the correct answer but also learn to explore various possibilities and ideas. This study aims to obtain a description of students’ creative thinking profiles with logical-mathematical intelligence in solving mathematical problems, viewed from their learning styles. The focus is on how students with logical-mathematical intelligence utilize creative thinking in accordance with their individual learning styles. This research employs a qualitative approach. The research subjects are three 10th-grade high school students, each representing a combination of logical-mathematical intelligence with a different learning style: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Data were collected through students’ written responses and interviews. The results of the study show that at the stage of understanding the problem, subjects with logical-mathematical intelligence across all three learning styles demonstrated aspects of fluency and flexibility. At the planning stage, the visual and kinesthetic learners met all aspects of creative thinking, including fluency, flexibility, and novelty. In contrast, the auditory learner demonstrated only fluency and flexibility. At the stage of carrying out the plan, visual and kinesthetic learners again showed all aspects of creative thinking more completely than the auditory learner, who only demonstrated fluency and flexibility. However, in the reviewing stage, all subjects showed only fluency and flexibility, without the presence of novelty. These findings highlight the importance of considering students’ learning styles in developing creative thinking skills, particularly for those with logical-mathematical intelligence. An effective learning process must be designed with differentiation, taking into account students’ learning styles. With appropriate strategies, students can not only understand the material well but also fully develop their creative thinking potential at each stage of problem-solving.

Abstract

This study aims to explore students' commognitive processes in solving linear programming problems based on their learning styles. Conducted with three female students from Class XI MIPA 4 at SMAN 5 Palu, the study included one student each with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. Data collection involved administering a learning style questionnaire and linear programming tasks (SBMPTN 2014 Code 663) that were linguistically validated to suit the students in Palu. Interviews were also conducted while the students worked on these tasks. Results indicate that the visual learner responded to problems in a detailed, repetitive, efficient, and accurate manner, demonstrating all four commognitive indicators. The main finding was the student's clear process in visualizing the problem. The auditory learner also responded well, demonstrating the four commognitive indicators but faced difficulties in the routine aspect, especially in transforming the problem into a narrative form, which is crucial for problem-solving. The kinesthetic learner showed clear, accurate responses and exhibited all four commognitive indicators, with a notable habit of using finger-pointing during explanations. However, limitations were observed in the narrative aspect, where the student relied more on physical experience than on logical, in-depth explanation.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to describe the problem-solving process for composition and inverse functions using Polya's stages, based on the mathematical abilities of students at SMA Negeri 1 Pamona Utara. The results show differences in problem-solving approaches according to students' mathematical proficiency. (1) Students with high mathematical ability can accurately identify given and required information, assess the sufficiency of the available data, and understand the relationships between different pieces of information. They can also determine additional necessary information, utilize all essential data, and systematically plan their problem-solving process. Moreover, they are skilled in answering accurately and verifying their solutions by identifying errors. (2) Students with moderate mathematical ability exhibit similar skills in understanding problems and planning solutions. However, in inverse function problems, they struggle to apply systematic steps and are less precise in their answers. (3) Students with low mathematical ability can identify given information and its connections but are unable to develop an effective problem-solving strategy. They still face difficulties in structuring systematic steps to arrive at the correct solution.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology opens up significant opportunities for improving the quality of mathematics learning. However, many high school mathematics teachers are still unfamiliar with the use of AI, particularly the use of the Python programming language as a learning support medium. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge, understanding, and skills of high school Mathematics MGMP teachers in utilizing Python-based AI technology in the learning process. The implementation method includes a preparatory stage in the form of coordination with partners, observation, and interviews to identify teacher needs, and an implementation stage consisting of two training sessions. The first training phase focused on providing conceptual material regarding AI applications in learning, while the second training phase included practical assistance in creating AI-based learning media using Python. The results of the activity showed an increase in teachers' understanding of AI concepts and practical skills in using Python to develop simple interactive quizzes in mathematics learning. Furthermore, participants demonstrated active and collaborative participation throughout the activity. Thus, this community service activity contributed to improving teachers' technological literacy and encouraging innovation in more interactive mathematics learning. It is recommended that similar activities be carried out continuously with a broader scope of material to optimize the use of AI in learning
