Abstract

The study aims to systematically investigate the use of an ethnomathematics approach in teaching mathematics in Islamic schools. The method used is a systematic literature review on phases including identification, screening, feasibility assessment, and inclusion. The usage of the method in this study shows several findings namely (1) The ethnomathematics research in Islamic schools was mostly conducted in Central Java Province; (2) The ethnomathematics approach has been implemented, developed, and effectively applied to mathematics learning in Islamic schools; (3) The ethnomathematics approach has significant benefits which are improving the outcomes of students’ learning, initiating a more effective and enjoyable learning, and stimulating a love of the culture to the students; (4) Research approaches used in the ethnomathematics approach in Islamic schools were diverse such as quantitative, qualitative and developmental approaches (5) The method used to evaluate the effectiveness of the ethnomathematics approach were giving exams, administering questionnaires and interviews; (6) Most of the topics discussed in the ethnomathematics approach in Islamic schools was geometry, while the culture discussed regarding mathematics learning was various. The results of this systematic literature review study will enrich the information on educational development, especially culture-based mathematics learning, known as ethnomathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the impact of training programs for civil servants (ASN) on two key aspects: first, the implementation of their duties and responsibilities; and second, the improvement of organisational performance and service delivery to stakeholders. The research employed a quantitative method. Data were collected using a non-test technique in the form of a questionnaire. Accordingly, the research instrument was a questionnaire consisting of a list of statements with five alternative answers on a Likert scale. The population consisted of all civil servants from the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Maluku and North Maluku Provinces, while the sample comprised randomly selected civil servants from the same population who served as respondents. The collected data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics were used to present the distribution of respondents' data, while inferential statistics were employed in a One-Sample t-test with a 5% significance level. In this context, inferential statistics were used to generalise whether the MOOC Pintar training had a significant impact. The findings reveal that the MOOC Pintar training has a significant impact on civil servants of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Maluku and North Maluku Provinces. These results underscore the importance of sustaining the MOOC Pintar training continuously, given its significant contribution to improving civil servants' task implementation, positional responsibilities, organisational performance, and stakeholder service. Although this research is limited to the perceptions of civil servants in the two provinces and the impact measured was confined to their self-perceptions, without incorporating supervisors' assessments, the findings nonetheless provide valuable recommendations for future studies in other regions. Further research, including supervisor evaluations, is suggested to broaden the scope of data regarding the impact of MOOC Pintar on civil servants of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Abstract

Student-centered learning is able to bring out the creative and innovative thinking of students which are needed to face the twenty-first century's challenges. A mindset that can bring out the creative potential in everyone is Design Thinking. The current study employed a theoretical perspective from design thinking with problem-solving activities consisting of 5 stages, namely emphatize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. In-depth observations and interviews were conducted to identify problems faced by high school students at SMA Negeri 6 Palu. Sample selection was based on criteria of extreme right sample and extreme left sample. The results obtained in the form of Interactive media in the form of Match-ups as discussion material and gamification on cell material were designed to be used in the learning process.

Abstract

Abstract

Mathematical abstraction is an important aspect in mathematics learning, especially in helping students form and understand geometric concepts such as quadrilaterals. However, in practice, students' mathematical abstraction process does not always occur uniformly. This is due to differences in individual characteristics, one of which is learning style. Therefore, this study aims to describe the profile of students' mathematical abstraction in forming the concept of quadrilaterals in terms of learning style. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. The research subjects consisted of three seventh-grade junior high school students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. Data were collected through a learning style questionnaire, mathematical abstraction tasks on quadrilaterals, and interviews. Data analysis used data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results of the study showed that students' mathematical abstraction processes differed in each learning style. Visual students were able to go through all aspects of mathematical abstraction (recognizing, building-with, constructing, and consolidation) gradually by utilizing visual representations. Auditory students also achieved all aspects by relying on verbal understanding, although the constructing and consolidation aspects were not systematically arranged. Meanwhile, kinesthetic students rely more on concrete experiences and physical activity in recognizing and consolidating. Therefore, it can be concluded that learning styles determine how students carry out the mathematical abstraction process in forming the concept of quadrilaterals, so this needs to be taken into consideration when designing mathematics learning.
