Abstract

This study examines the role of the problem-based learning model in mastering mufradāt among 3 KMI at Islamic boarding schools. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and language instructors, and a review of relevant documents. The results indicate that the implementation of PBL strengthened mastery of mufradāt through several indicators: an accurate understanding of word meanings, increased vocabulary use in oral responses, and a more consistent ability to construct sentences appropriate to the context. Changes in learning behaviour were also evident, such as more active participation, the ability to solve problems independently and in groups, and increased Confidence in speaking Arabic. The problem identification stage and the collaborative inquiry process were the most influential aspects. The context of language familiarisation, such as muhādarah and taʿbīr syafawī, enhanced the natural internalization of new words, forming a strong synergy with PBL. This research offers novelty by demonstrating the readiness of PBL to be integrated into the immersive learning culture of modern Islamic boarding schools, thereby making it an effective model for contextual mufradāt learning. Abstract

This study examines how constructivist learning principles are manifested in Arabic reading instruction through the Fathul Kutub program in an Islamic boarding school and explores the learning processes that characterize students’ engagement with Arabic texts. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with students and teachers, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Arabic reading instruction in the Fathul Kutub program is characterized by active student engagement, gradual meaning construction, and facilitated learning interactions. Text comprehension does not emerge instantly but develops through a sequence of independent reading, peer discussion, and guided clarification. Teachers play a facilitative role by prompting students’ thinking and supporting meaning-making rather than providing direct explanations. The study highlights Arabic reading instruction as a learning process shaped by interaction among learners, texts, and pedagogical practices. Rather than evaluating program effectiveness, this study contributes conceptually by emphasizing a process-oriented understanding of qirā’ah instruction within a pesantren context

Abstract

This research seeks to create a Scrabble Board Game grounded in Experiential Learning principles to improve Arabic vocabulary acquisition for novice students. The study utilized a Research and Development (R&D) methodology based on the ADDIE model, which encompasses the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In the development phase, a prototype was produced and evaluated by three specialists in Arabic language, educational media, and pedagogical practice, attaining an average score of 4.6 (very valid). The study encompassed 20 second-grade children at Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah across three sessions, utilizing pre-test and post-test evaluations to determine learning results. The findings indicated a notable enhancement in vocabulary proficiency, with the mean score rising from 54.3 to 82.1 and an N-Gain score of 0.61, categorizing it as moderate to high. Observations and interviews validated heightened student engagement, motivation, and teamwork. Kolb’s Experiential Learning Model enabled significant learning through practical activities, reflection, and application. This study concludes that the integration of educational games with experiential learning methodologies can significantly enhance Arabic vocabulary acquisition and foster a more dynamic classroom atmosphere. Future research is advised to investigate digital adaptations and broader deployment in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of a game-assisted multimodal learning approach implemented through the Fun Arabic Class program in improving Arabic vocabulary mastery among fifth-grade students at MI Nurussalam. Grounded in Game-Based Learning theory, this study employed an experimental method using a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 26 students selected through total sampling. The instructional treatment was conducted over four learning sessions, integrating video-based learning, picture-matching games, and digital quizzes via Kahoot to support multimodal engagement. Data were collected using a validated Arabic vocabulary test with acceptable internal consistency reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.82) and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results indicated a statistically significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, with mean scores increasing from 40.19 to 74.42 (p < 0.05), accompanied by a substantial median gain, indicating practical significance beyond statistical significance alone. These findings suggest that game-assisted multimodal learning can enhance student engagement and vocabulary retention in elementary Arabic instruction. However, the absence of a control group presents a potential internal validity limitation. Therefore, future studies are recommended to employ comparative experimental designs with larger samples to examine scalability and instructional effectiveness across different Arabic language competencies.

Abstract

Arabic language learning plays an important role in Islamic education, including in the context of Al-Qur'an memorisation programmes. However, Arabic language learning applied to Al-Qur'an memorisers is generally conducted in a generic manner and has not been designed according to the specific needs of the memorisation process. In fact, huffaz require a pedagogical approach that can support accuracy of pronunciation, strengthen memorisation retention, and facilitate recognition of language patterns in the text of the Al-Qur'an. This study aims to examine the urgency of developing Arabic language learning specifically designed for Qur’an memorizers as a supporting approach in the tahfiz process. This study uses a qualitative method with a library research approach through analysis of relevant literature on Arabic language learning and Qur’an memorisation. The results of the study indicate that Arabic language learning that is oriented towards Qur'anic vocabulary, recognition of sentence structure in verses, and contextual basic meaning is more relevant to the needs of huffaz than general Arabic language learning. Arabic language learning in this context is not intended to replace other disciplines of Qur’anic studies, but rather serves as a pedagogical foundation that supports the effectiveness and sustainability of Qur’an memorisation.

Abstract

Arabic grammar (nahwu) in higher education is often taught through memorization and static texts, which hinders systematic understanding and independent practice. This study developed and evaluated Jurumiyah.ID, a web-based learning platform that organizes the Matn al-Ājurrūmiyyah and selected syarah, adds cross-referenced rules, and embeds interactive quizzes to support self-directed learning. The development followed a Research & Development approach using the ADDIE Model, and Waterfall SDLC adaptation. Core features include searchable matn and rule summaries, cross-references among interdependent rules, and short formative tests designed for rapid feedback and review. Methodologically, the study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design to estimate learning gains attributable to structured practice on Jurumiyah.ID. The objective test bank was constructed from 30 items and reduced to 10 valid items through corrected item total correlations; internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach’s α = 0.794). Participants (n = 40) were students from Qur’anic Studies and Islamic Education programs at Universitas Islam Darussalam Ciamis. Post-test performance exceeded pre-test performance, indicating measurable improvement in students’ understanding of key Ajurrūmiyyah rules after using web. Psychometric screening supports the adequacy of the instrument for detecting change (10 valid items; α = 0.794), and the design isolates short-term learning gains under guided self-study conditions. The platform’s modular design and searchable knowledge base enable scalable integration into course syllabi and independent study. Future work should extend to controlled comparisons and broader content coverage to strengthen causal inference and generalizability.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve Arabic speaking skills textbooks which were developed in such a way that interactive exercises and topics were adapted to the student’s language by adding appropriate vocabulary and pictures to the learning material. This research was used as a template for ADDIE's research and development (R&D). The study sample was first-grade students at the Mawaridussalam Islamic Boarding School, with class 1C (30 students) used to assess student interest and the textbooks’ effectiveness. The data were collected by observations, interviews, and tests before qualitative and quantitative analyses. The significance of the average student’s test score after using the designed textbook (80.50) was higher than the average score before using the textbook (59.17) to learn Arabic speaking skills. These results confirmed that the proposed educational approach is practical, simple, and attractive.

Abstract

Good management in Arabic language learning is crucial to ensure that experiential learning runs effectively and meets its objectives. This study aims to explore the management of experiential learning in enhancing Arabic speaking skills at Darussalam Gontor Modern Islamic Boarding School. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. This study tested data validity through triangulation and analysed the data using Creswell’s interactive model, including data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that experiential learning management at Gontor is implemented systematically through planning, organising, actuating, and controlling. Each stage supports students' active participation in Arabic-speaking practices inside and outside the classroom. This management approach effectively fosters a communicative environment that enhances students’ speaking fluency, confidence, and linguistic discipline. However, challenges remain in maintaining language consistency among all learners. The originality of this study lies in integrating experiential learning management with the pesantren’s language environment to strengthen speaking skills. The implications highlight the importance of structured management for sustaining language practice programs. Future studies should examine its application in other pesantren contexts or among learners with varying levels of Arabic language proficiency.
