Abstract

Climate change is one of the most critical issues we are currently facing. Considering the devastating impact of climate change to many people in the world, an interdisciplinary approach to climate change mitigation is highly essential. Teachers have a crucial responsibility in transferring knowledge, persuading students, and setting an example for critical thinking and environmental advocacy in order to prepare students for the challenges posed by climate change. The issue of climate change is one of the topics and goals of EFL teachers in preparing students to face climate change. The aim of this research is to explore teachers' knowledge, beliefs, attitudes and preparedness in integrating climate change issues in ELT. This study employed a survey method, which involved 214 Indonesian EFL teachers from various levels of education, from elementary to high school. Data were analyzed through questionnaires, consisting of four parts: teachers’ knowledge, belief, attitude and preparedness in integrating climate change issues in ELT. The results show that there is a correlation between knowledge, belief and attitude towards preparedness in incorporating climate change education in EFL learning. Moreover, most teachers expressed their willingness to teach climate change issues in ELT, despite the score of their knowledge, belief, and attitude regarding climate change. These results shed light on teachers’ understanding of climate change, belief about, and attitude toward climate change issues. Implications of the study include the possibility of incorporating climate change education in EFL learning and EFL sustainable teacher education.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Pada implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka, guru-guru masih mengalami keterbatasan informasi baik dalam hal pembelajaran maupun dalam penyusunan perangkat pembelajarannya.

Abstract

Climate change is a global issue that requires awareness and understanding among younger generations to support sustainable environmental actions. This study aims to analyze the profile of climate change literacy among junior high school students (SMP) in Ogan Ilir Regency by considering school accreditation levels A, B, and C. The research employed a quantitative descriptive method using purposive sampling, involving 184 ninth-grade students from three schools. The instrument consisted of 40 items covering three indicators: knowledge, attitude, and competence, with Cronbach’s alpha reliability scores of 0.548, 0.900, and 0.511, respectively. Instrument validity testing showed adequate results, with a KMO value of 0.863, SRMR of 0.072, and GFI of 0.990. The findings indicate that 46% of students were in the moderate category of climate change literacy. The attitude indicator achieved the highest percentage at 48%, reflecting a good level of awareness and concern toward climate change issues. However, school accreditation does not necessarily determine literacy level, as evidenced by SMP C (Accreditation C), which recorded the highest percentage in the high category overall. These results imply the need to strengthen environmentally-based curricula and implement contextual learning approaches to enhance students’ climate change literacy.

Abstract

Instilling an attitude of environmental care can be done from an early age, namely in elementary school, through direct practice outside the classroom. One activity that can instill an attitude of environmental care is fish and vegetable farming (aquaponics). Menara Fitrah Islamic Elementary School is one of the schools that has adopted an attitude of environmental care, making it a partner in this community service activity. The purpose of this activity is to increase students' attitudes toward caring for the environment through fish and vegetable farming (aquaponics). This community service was carried out using Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), which involves community service grounded in the community's strengths and potential. Community service activities are carried out through a preparation stage, namely coordination between the implementation team and the school, a socialization stage, and fish farming training for sixth-grade students and science teachers, a mentoring stage through fish and vegetable farming (aquaponics) involving sixth-grade students and students as field practice activities, and an evaluation stage. The results show that the activities carried out can increase students' awareness of the environment and, with direct student involvement in fish and vegetable farming (aquaponics), increase it by 100%.

Abstract

Indigenous knowledge plays an important role in forest conservation; however, modernization has caused indigenous knowledge almost to disappear. This study aims to determine the Besemah Indigenous Knowledge for forest conservation in Biology Education at Benawa hamlet, Penjalang Village, South Dempo District, Pagar Alam City, Indonesia. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with observation through interviews and documentation with 22 affluent information respondents. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and meaning related to indigenous knowledge in natural resource management. Based on the results of the research, it was found that some indigenous knowledge played a role in forest conservation including the prohibition of cutting down certain trees, the prohibition of clearing land and fire sources, the prohibition of killing protected animals, the prohibition of polluting water sources, and the prohibition of entering the forest without the permission of the customary leader. The findings of this study can serve as a model of good practice in forest management, in which indeginous knowledge, customary rules, and the active role of traditional leaders guide sustainable resource use and community participation in the Ayek Mude Tebat Benawa customary forest.
