Abstract

Morphometrics is a field that deals with variations and changes in the form (size and shape) of an organism or object. Anthropogenic is a human activity not only limited to the use or utilization of coastal resources, but also can be restorative and protective, thus causing complex disruption. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphometric differences of the flowers and fruits of R.apiculata mangroves in two regions with different anthropogenic activities in the mangrove ecosystem of Dumai City. This research was carried out in September 2019. From the results of the study it was found that in areas polluted by anthropogenic activity the average morphometrics of fruit (length and width) and leaves (length, width and length of the stems) Rhizophora apiculata were lower than those in the area not polluted by anthropogenic activity. At station I the oil content ranged from 0,0975 to 0,1251 ppm classified as polluted and at station II ranged from 0,072 to 0,111 ppm classified as not polluted.

Abstract

Oil pollution in the waters is one factor affecting the abundance of phytoplankton, especially the diatoms. The waters of Bengkalis Strait, Pangkalan Jambi Village, and Bengkalis Regency are used as international shipping lanes and industrial areas. This study aims to analyze the total oil content, calculate the abundant of planktonic diatoms, and explain the relationships between the total oil content and the abundant of planktonic diatoms carried out in the Bengkalis Strait, Pangkalan Jambi Village Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. This research uses a survey method. Station 1 is near fish ponds and mangroves, station 2 is in the harbor where the fishing boats moor, station 3 is in wharf bridge and residential areas, and station 4 is in mangrove ecotourism. The result of the oil content analysis obtained an average value of 0.216 ppm. The highest oil content at station 2 is 0.5742 ppm, and the lowest at station 4 is 0.0775 ppm. The calculations of the abundance of planktonic diatoms ranged from 3,323.28 to 11,631.48 ind/L. The highest abundance at station 3 was 9,692.2 ind/L. The lowest abundance was at Station 2, which was 4,154.1 ind/L. Simple linear regression test results obtained equation Y = 6045.927572 + (3013.071268x). The coefficient of determination (R2) = 0.049 states that 4.9% of the abundance of planktonic diatoms is influenced by oil content, and other environmental factors influence the rest. The correlation coefficient (r) = 0.0223, so the relationship between total oil content and the abundance of planktonic diatoms is very weak.

Abstract

The aim of carrying out the research is to determine the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton. The method used in this research is a survey method, namely data collection, documentation, and direct observation in the field. Samples were analyzed at the Marine Biology Laboratory of Riau University. The results of the research show that there are six types of phytoplankton found in the waters of Teluk Lecah Village, Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency, namely Synedra sp, Dactylococcopsis sp, Nitzschia sp, Tribonema sp, Cylindrotheca sp, and Rhizosolenia sp. The first highest phytoplankton abundance was at station II, with an abundance of 0.1660, followed by the second highest phytoplankton abundance at station I, namely the residential area, with an abundance of 0.1494 Ind/L, while the lowest phytoplankton abundance was at station III, namely at the harbor with an abundance of 0. ,0996 Ind/L. The species diversity index at stations I and III, H' > 3, means the level of species diversity is high and the water conditions are not polluted. At station II, 1 ≤ H' ≤ 3 means the level of species diversity is moderate, and the water conditions are lightly polluted. It can be concluded that the H' value still meets the criteria. The species diversity index at all stations, E > 0.5, means that the uniformity of organisms is in balance, and there is no competition for certain places or food. It can be concluded that the E value also meets the criteria. Species dominance index at all stations, D < 0.5 means no dominant species exists

Abstract

This research investigates the population dynamics of the gastropod Cerithidea obtusa along the eastern intertidal zones of Bengkalis Island, focusing on species abundance, spatial distribution, and size variation. Conducted over the span from December 2023 to January 2024, this investigation took place at two specific locales on the east coast of Bengkalis Island: Sekodi Village (Station I) and Teluk Lancar Village (Station II), employing a comprehensive survey methodology. The intertidal zones were segmented into upper, middle, and lower subzones, each with three transects containing one m² plot. Temperature, salinity, pH levels, substrate composition, and organic matter content were measured as indicators of the quality of the environment. The results revealed a significant difference in population density between the stations, with Station I showing the highest abundance at 240.000 ind/Ha and Station II the lowest at 33.300 ind/Ha. The middle subzone at Station I was the most populated, with 93.300 ind/ha. Shell size analysis revealed three categories: small (<3,35 mm), medium (3,35-4,05 mm), and large (≥4,05 mm), with medium-sized shells being the most prevalent. The distribution pattern of C. obtusa exhibited both uniform and clustered arrangements. A significant disparity in abundance was noted between Station I and Station II, with a p-value of 0,000, underscoring the considerable variation in population density between the two locations
