Abstract

The results of this research include initial data that researchers obtained from the daily tests of class IV students at SDN 14/1 Sungai Baung for the 2024/2025 academic year, then improvements were made with the aim of improving critical thinking skills in the classroom. IV Indonesian language learning uses the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. Classroom Action Research (PTK) is carried out in two cycles consisting of four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. In Cycle 1 the material taught is Main and Supporting Ideas. Of the 21 students, only 3 students (14.29%) obtained a score above the KKM (70), with a class average score of 56.43. In Cycle 2 the material taught is Reading and Seeing. All 21 students scored above the KKM (70), with an average class score of 80.48, which indicates 100% classical completion. This increase occurs because students are more active in learning, pay attention to teacher explanations, and dare to ask and answer questions. The research results show that the PBL model is effective in improving student learning outcomes.   Keywords: critical thinking ability, elementary education, problem based learning model

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: The inner surfaces of dental unit waterlines (DUWLs) possess an accumulation of any bacteria. Microorganisms can enter dental unit waterlines from water reservoirs. Antiseptics are substances that inhibit the growth of bacteria. Chlorine dioxide is effective in decontaminating microbes in the DUWLs and has a beneficial effect on reducing nosocomial infections. Chlorhexidine effectively prevents the growth of Streptococcus bacteria. The addition of antiseptic agents to the water source contributed to a significant reduction of the cultivable microbial counts in the aerosol. The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference between Chlorine Dioxide 0,1% and Chlorhexidine 2% antiseptics on the number of bacterial colonies in the Dental Unit Waterline. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental study with a total sample size of 8 dental units that have water tanks in the oral surgery clinic. The sampling technique was total sampling, where the sample was divided into 2 groups, group I using Chlorine Dioxide and group II using 2% Chlorhexidine calculation of colony counts unit using the plate count method. Results: The difference in the number of colonies before being given Chlorine Dioxide was 13,153 CFU/mL and after being given Chlorine Dioxide antiseptic was 6,070 CFU/mL, while before being given 2% Chlorhexidine antiseptic was 12,917 CFU/mL and after being given 2% Chlorhexidine antiseptic was 2,823 CFU/mL. There is a significant difference in the number of bacterial colonies before and after being given Chlorine Dioxide and Chlorhexidine 2% antiseptic with ρ=0.001; Conclusion:  Chlorhexidine 2% reduces bacterial colony forming unit in DUWLs much more than using Chlorine dioxide for the alternative of DUWLs Cleaning Agents. Keywords: DUWLs, chlorine dioxide, chlorhexidine 2%, bacterial colony counts

Abstract

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that ranks among the top 10 major contributors to global disability. Schizophrenia is a disorder of brain function in the form of impaired perception, thoughts, feelings, cognitive processes, and behavior. They require long-term atypical antipsychotics for therapy, but they have secondary effects on food intake and cause intestinal dysbiosis, one of which is characterized by increased serum lipolysaccharide (LPS) levels. We aim to examine the impact of omega-3 supplementation on serum LPS levels in schizophrenia patients utilizing atypical antipsychotics. Methods: This research is an experiment with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design and a triple-blind study in Prof. HB Saanin Padang’s psychiatric hospital and the Biomedic Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, from July 2023 to February 2024. The research sample consisted of 15 individuals who received 1000 mg Omega-3 PUFA (180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA) daily for 21 days, and another 15 individuals who served as the control group. We checked the serum LPS levels using ELISA in duplicate on days 0 and 22. We analyzed the data using the paired t-test. Results: There was a significant difference in serum LPS levels in schizophrenia patients taking atypical antipsychotics before and after being given omega-3 supplements in the inpatient ward of Prof. HB Saanin Mental Hospital Padang with p = 0.02 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Omega-3 supplement 1000 mg/day can reduce serum LPS levels in schizophrenia patients who receive atypical antipsychotic therapy.

Abstract

Gingivitis is a periodontal disease involving the gingival tissue, caused by bacterial invasion. The emergence of gingivitis problems in society can be caused by individual behavioral factors that neglect oral hygiene due to lack of individual knowledge about the importance of oral health maintenance. This study aims to see the relationship between knowledge of oral health maintenance and the incidence of gingivitis in traders at Tanjungsari Square, Tanjungsari Village, Sumedang Regency. This analytic study with a cross sectional design took samples with purposive sampling technique as many as 31 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and modified gingival index (MGI) examination. The results showed that as many as 13 (41.9%) respondents still had a level of knowledge in the lack category and as many as 12 (38.7%) respondents still had gingivitis with moderate inflammation. The Spearman test obtained a p-value of 0.037 <0.05 with r count -0.377, which means that there is a relationship between knowledge of oral health maintenance with the incidence of gingivitis in traders. The lower the knowledge of oral health maintenance, the higher the incidence of gingivitis in traders.

Abstract

Anxiety is very common in patients when visiting the dentist, especially when surgery is performed, such as odontectomy. Anxiety management is done by pharmacological and non-pharmacological means. Music is one of the non-pharmacological methods to trigger safe, cheap, and effective relaxation. Thus, a study was conducted on the difference between classical music therapy and meditation music on anxiety levels in odontectomy patients. The research method used was quasi experiment with Pretest-Posttest two group design. Subjects were 38 and divided into 2 groups, namely the treatment and control groups. Subjects were given informed consent, filled in subject identity data, in the treatment group filled out the MDAS (modifed dental anxiety scale) questionnaire before listening to classical music and meditation music and the control group was given a posttest after odontectomy with the same questionnaire. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference between classical music therapy and meditation music on anxiety levels in odontectomy patients. Statistical analysis using the Saphiro Wilk test. The results of this study are pretest / posttest classical music obtained a value of 14.21 / 6.63. The conclusion is that there is a difference in the provision of classical music therapy and meditation music on the anxiety level of odontectomy patients with a significant p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05), meaning that classical music is more effective than meditation music in reducing anxiety levels in odontectomy patients.

Abstract

The high incidence of disease transmission in hospitals is an indicator of the importance of control or prevention efforts by implementing precautionary standards. In increasing efforts to prevent disease transmission, nurses need knowledge and attitudes in using personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid the risk of disease transmission from patients to nurses and fellow patients. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about hand washing behavior and the use of personal protective equipment and its application to dental and oral therapists at RSKGM Bandung City. This research method uses quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The research results show that washing hands must be done properly before and after carrying out care procedures even if wearing gloves or other protective equipment to eliminate or reduce microorganisms on the hands so that the spread of disease can be reduced and the environment is protected from infection. It can be concluded that from the results of the Kendal tau'b statistical test with a p value of 0.000, it shows that there is a relationship between the knowledge of dental and oral therapists and the implementation of cross-infection control at RSKGM Bandung City.
