Abstract

Based on the importance of positive politeness in communication, the researcher intended to analyze how positive politeness strategy uttered by Patience Phillips on Catwoman Movie. It is conducted to find out the kinds and purpose of positive politeness strategy employed by Patience Phillips and also to investigate the factors influencing Patience Phillips applying those strategies in relation to Brown and Levinson?s theory of politeness strategy. This research deals with pragmatics approach. There are two factors influencing Patience Phillips in applying positive politeness strategy. Namely payoff and circumstances, the payoff factors and the circumstances factors (including relative power, social distance, and size of imposition) influence Patience Phillips in several data. Finally, the researcher expects this research will be useful for future researcher who conducted for the same field. It is suggested to further researchers to be able to investigate other objects and may try to analyze from different focus, such as focused on negative politeness, bald on record or off record strategy or used another principal theory of politeness such as politeness theory from Leech, Grice, Scollon or Lakoff.

Abstract

This study discussed about the phenomena in the society which human shown their existence and adapted on literary work. This study used Hermann Hesse’s work entitled Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth Novel. This study used Satre’s existentialism study on the ideas of finding the characteristic of Satre’s existentialism in hesse’s works. This study also used Gill and Kenan’s explanation to get through understanding of the main character acts, narrations, dialogs on the research itself. This study aims to examine the characteristic of Sartre’s existentialism in the novel and how the representation of existentialism in the main character. The researcher used qualitative-phenomenology theory to describe human experiences in a certain phenomenon. The results of this research that, there are three conception of Sartre’s existentialism found in main character, Emil Sinclair which is Abandoned by God, Despair and Anguish. Also the researcher concluded that the main character became atheist in the end of the story which he did not choose the two world represent of religion path and the rebellion path. He wants to lives among the society peacefully full of conscious and consideration.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to find the class distinction in character of Adam and Lagavulin and the alienation in character of Adam from the Upside Down movie. This research utilized the method of qualitative research with the technique of observing and used content analysis. The data sources of this research were the script and movie of Upside Down. The data were taken from the dialog of each character and some narrations of Adam indicating the characteristics of class distinction and types of alienation based on the theory of Karl Marx. From the findings of this research, the characters in the movie revealed there were 7 characteristics of class distinction by looking at two types of class, bourgeoisie and proletariat, those are brutal exploiter, the ruler, own the means of production, productive force, the oppressed class, have no means of production, the revolutionary. Also, from the character of Adam, he revealed there were 4 types of alienation with the types as follow, the alienation of the worker in his product, the alienation from the act of production, the alienation from the true essence of our species-being, the alienation of a worker from other workers.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research reports a phenomenological analysis in Lena Haloway’s experience following the traumatic events. Phenomenology describes the meaning of experience as the essence of a phenomenon, and explores the perspective to learn from the experience of others. It gives reflection to the issues important to the research. Delirium novel portrays the character of Lena Haloway who has experienced tremendous amount of loss in her life and she also has experienced the struggle living under the totalitarian government that seems to dictate her decisions. That traumatic experience affects her perspective of the world she lives in. This research uses qualitative-descriptive method and purposes to examine the phenomenological concepts of Lena Haloway’s experiences and how they are affects her perspective represents in Delirium novel by using Husserl’s Phenomenology and Heidegger’s Hermeneutic theories. The result reveals that Lena experienced all five phenomenological concepts of experience; those are intentionality, noema, noesis, intersubjectivity, and intuition. It also shows that those experiences affect her perspective. All the results represent through Lena’s narration, actions, and feelings as the first person narrator.Key words: phenomenology, hermeneutic, experience, affect, perspective ABSTRAKPenelitian ini melaporkan analisis fenomenologis dalam pengalaman Lena Haloway setelah mengalami peristiwa traumatis. Fenomenologi menggambarkan makna pengalaman sebagai esensi dari suatu fenomena dan menggali perspektif untuk belajar dari pengalaman orang lain. Ini memberikan gambaran pada masalah penting untuk penelitian ini. Novel Delirium menggambarkan karakter bernama Lena Haloway yang mengalami banyak kehilangan dalam hidupnya dan ia juga mengalami sulitnya hidup di bawah pemerintahan totaliter yang mengatur keputusannya. Pengalaman traumatis tersebut memengaruhi perspektifnya terhadap dunia yang ia tinggali. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif-deskriptif dan bertujuan untuk mengkaji konsep fenomenologi dalam pengalaman Lena Haloway dan bagaimana pengalaman tersebut memengaruhi perspektifnya tentang hidup yang tergambar dalam novel Delirium dengan menggunakan teori fenomenologi oleh Husserl dan teori hermeneutika oleh Heidegger. Hasil mengungkapkan bahwa Lena mengalami kelima konsep fenomenologi, yaitu kesengajaan, noema, noesis, intersubyektivitas, dan intuisi. Hal tersebut juga menunjukan bahwa pengalaman tersebut telah memengaruhi perspektifnya. Data dikumpulkan melalui narasi, tindakan, dan perasaan Lena dalam sudut pandang orang pertama.Kata kunci: fenomenologi, hermeneutika, pengalaman, pengaruh, perspektif

Abstract

Observation of land cover in Tanah datar Region has been conducted by using Landsat 7 ETM+path/row 127/60 acquired in 18 May 2002. The land cover can be differed into 7 (seven) classes. Most ofTanah Datar land is covered by forest, the first class. The second land cover area is padi field (sawah)that very difficult to be detected because of their different grow phases. The third, forth, fivth and sixthrespectively are dry agriculture area, plantation, mixed garden and residential area. Abstract

Remote sensing image has information and reality of earth surface content. The principle aim of the producing n-classes object is information extraction. The need of users can be defined correspond to the information scale of object classes, the scale issue is their studying. It will be important as the scaling property has a characteristic hierarchy and link, from the class level of global scale to detail scale. The scaling is performed by using the Gaussian function, the scaling result with factor of more than 100 gives an homogenous image and also object class forms conserving image.Keywords: remote sensing, image, Gaussian, kernel, space, scale.

Abstract

Central Business District (CBD) plays very important roles in an area since this is where a regionbegins its growth and development before it moves outwards to the surrounding areas (hinterland). Thedevelopment of hinterland around the CBD of Rumbia needs to be analyzed to see the position andaccessibility of the hinterland in relation to the city centre. This study was set out to describe spreadingactivities in the hinterland areas that were affected by activities in the city centre of Rumbia.The purpose of this study was to analyze the accessibility of hinterland areas in its relative positionto the CBD of Rumbia city, to analyze the potensials for developing hinterland areas around the CBD ofRumbia in terms of their accessibility and land utilization, and to analyze population growth in thehinterland around the CBD of Rumbia in terms of the aspect of regional potensials for development.The study was conducted using a descriptive quantitative approach. Formula used was Hansen’saccessibility index, and variables under investigation were the number of population, the distance betweenareas, the extent of areas for residence, and employment opportunities in each area.Result of analysis showed that, based on Hansen’s accessibility index, the highest accessibilityindex was gained by the sub district of Rumbia (179.65 inhabitants per km2), followed consecutively by thesub district of North Rarowatu (126.31 inhabitants per km2), the sub district of Central Rumbia (72.68inhabitants per km2), the sub district of Rarowatu (30.82 inhabitants per km2), the sub district of Mata Oleo(28.33 inhabitants per km2), the sub district of Masaloka Raya (24.61 inhabitants per km2) and the subdistrict of Southeast Poleang (5.48 inhabitants per km2). The sub district of North Rarowatu has the biggestpotentials for development in comparison to the other six sub district, and it also has the biggest growth ofpopulation.Keywords : CBD, hinterland, accessibility, Hansen.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Mengetahui dan menganalisis dinamika penggunaan lahan di Kecamatan Puuwatu dan Kecamatan Baruga Kota Kendari pada tahun 2008 hingga 2014, (2) Mengetahui dan menganalisis faktor yang mempengaruhi terjadinya perubahan penggunaan lahan di Kecamatan Puuwatu dan Kecamatan Baruga Kota Kendari. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu Overlay Peta dan analisis regresi berganda. Dinamika Penggunaan Lahan di Kecamatan Puuwatu dan Kecamatan Baruga dari tahun 2008 hingga 2014 mengalami perubahan penggunaan lahan yang sangat dinamis. Penggunaan lahan yang paling besar perubahannya di Kecamatan Puuwatu adalah  lahan kebun dan pertanian sedangkan di Kecamatan Baruga adalah lahan terbangun atau permukiman dimana jumlahnya bertambah 502,30 ha. Pertambahan luas lahan terbangun yang signifikan ini merupakan hasil konversi lahan kebun, dan pertanian dimana sawah mengalami penurunan sebesar 137,57 ha, hutan mengalami penurunan sebesar 280,98 ha. dan lahan terbuka mengalami penurunan sebesar 83,75 ha. Faktor yang meningkatkan perubahan penggunaan lahan pertanian menjadi non pertanian di Kecamatan Puuwatu adalah pertumbuhan penduduk, pertumbuhan fasilitas ekonomi dan pertumbuhan fasilitas pendidikan sedangkan di Kecamatan Baruga adalah pertumbuhan fasilitas ekonomi dan pertumbuhan fasilitas pendidikan.Kata kunci: dinamika penggunaan lahan, faktor yang mempengaruhi perubahan penggunaan lahan

Abstract

This paper discusses the relationship between the Nagel triangle and the originaltriangle. The Nagel triangle is formed by connecting the three of tangent points of theexcircle to the sides of the triangle. This relationship can be shown through thecollinearity of centroid and incenter of the original triangle to Nagel point of the Nageltriangle. Then, the relationship between the area of the Nagel triangle and the area of theoriginal triangle is shown.

Abstract

This article discusses a new method to estimate the value of the integral of the form Z M a exp(f (x))dx, where M → ∞ and x > 0. The discussion includes the reduction method with First Approximation and Further Approximations. Furthermore, supported by a few example of the use of this new method.
