This type of research is a quasi experimental type with the design of The One-Group Pretest-Posttest. Pretest observations were carried out on a group of respondents who were then given treatment. Researchers will compare the effectiveness of the learning model on the results before and after being given treatment. The sampling used in this study is a group sample (Cluster Sampling) because this sampling does not interfere with the teaching and learning process in the classroom. Therefore, the sample of this study involved 36 students in class XA4. The results in this study were at the pretest or before the implementation of the learning model, it reached an average of 54.61 in the less category. Abstract

This study focuses on the phenomenon of code switching that appears in one of Maudy Ayunda's YouTube videos entitled "Study Hacks Ala Maudy Ayunda", with the aim of describing the types and the functions of code switching used by Maudy Ayunda on her YouTube channel, both of which are analyzed using Hoffman's theory. This study uses a qualitative method with content analysis based on Hoffmann's theory. Data is taken from the video script itself, and the results are calculated using the Sudijono formula. The results of the study after analyzing the video, the author found that there were sixty-five data in the types and functions of code switching. In the types of code switching, intra sentential and intra sentential code switching are the highest types, namely 31 data (47.6%) and tag sentential code switching is the lowest type, namely 3 data (4.6%). Meanwhile, in the code switching function, talking about particular topic is a function of code switching that has the highest data, which is 23 data (35.3%), then followed by intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor, which consists of 13 data (20%), then followed by being emphatic about something (express solidarity) and repetition, which is 10 data (15.38%), then followed by interjection and expressing group identity, which each have 4 data (6.15%) and the lowest is quoting somebody else, which is only 1 data (1.53%).

Abstract

The development of digital technology requires teachers to be able to integrate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge (TPACK) into the learning process. However, many teachers still struggle to understand and apply TPACK optimally, resulting in suboptimal learning quality in the digital era. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' understanding and skills in implementing TPACK through socialization and structured training. The methods used include lectures, discussions, hands-on practice in developing TPACK-based lesson plans, as well as pretest and posttest evaluations. The activity was conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Pematangsiantar in March-April 2025, involving teachers as active participants. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in teachers' understanding of TPACK concepts and practices, reflected in an average increase in pretest scores from 27.9% to 57.37% on the posttest. Teachers also became more confident in designing technology-based learning and effectively utilizing digital media. This activity demonstrated that TPACK socialization can strengthen teachers' competencies and improve the quality of learning in the digital age. Continuous support and further training are still needed to ensure optimal implementation of TPACK.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze conversations containing conversational implicature in the interactions between the host and guests on The Drew Barrymore Talk Show, using Grice’s (1975) theory of conversational implicature, which explains that conversational implicature is divided into two types: Generalized conversational implicature and Particularized conversational implicature. Implicature refers to utterances spoken by the speaker that are not meant literally. In conducting the research, the author used a descriptive qualitative method to present data in the form of descriptions and to identify conversational implicature. The data were obtained from conversation transcripts, which were then validated and matched repeatedly with videos from The Drew Barrymore Show’s YouTube channel. The data were summarized by analyzing conversations containing conversational implicature, then the selected data were classified into two types of conversational implicature. The data were further analyzed to determine the actual meaning contained in the implicit utterances and the speaker’s purpose in delivering those utterances. After analyzing the conversations in The Drew Barrymore Talk Show, the author found 35 instances of conversational implicature. Among these data, 19 were classified as generalized conversational implicature and 16 as particularized conversational implicature. In analyzing the actual meaning of these utterances, the researcher identified 9 types of purposes for using conversational implicature, namely: 15 for giving information, 6 for humor and jokes, 6 for lack of specific information, 2 for giving satire, 2 for self-protection, 1 for giving praise, 1 for politeness, 1 for giving support, and 1 for expressing happiness. Based on research findings, the use of conversational implicature in the from of generalized conversational implicature was dominantly applied in general or casual conversations. its purposes were not only to provide information and create humor but also varied depending on how the speaker delivered the utterance and the context in which it was used.

Abstract

This study investigates the types of presupposition found in the animated series How to Train Your Dragon: Race to the Edge, using George Yule’s (1996) classification as a theoretical framework. Understanding presupposition—implied meaning that underlies spoken or written expressions—is essential to developing pragmatic competence in language. Through a descriptive qualitative method, this research identifies and categorizes presuppositional triggers in the film’s dialogues, aiming to reveal how implicit meanings contribute to the narrative and character development. A total of 28 utterances containing presuppositions were analyzed, and all six types identified by Yule were found: existential, factive, lexical, structural, non-factive, and counterfactual. Among these, existential presuppositions were the most frequently occurring, representing 25% of the data. Factive, lexical, and structural presuppositions followed, each comprising 17.8%, while non-factive and counterfactual presuppositions were the least common, each at 10.7%. These results highlight the significant presence of presuppositional meaning in animated film dialogue, indicating that such media can be rich sources for examining pragmatic elements in language use. The findings suggest that presupposition not only enriches character interaction and emotional depth but also supports narrative cohesion. This research emphasizes the pedagogical potential of animated content in teaching pragmatic concepts and encourages further exploration of presupposition across different genres, audiences, and communicative contexts.
