Abstract

Abstract

A previous study was conducted on types of clauses or sentences in Bahasa Indonesia. This study attempted to focus more on the clauses constructed by a single argument in BI. The data were collected from BI speakers, literature, and the researchers' intuition as BI speakers. Data analysis was implemented using a descriptive method. The results found that BI has several clauses, such as intransitive, antipassive, stative, and passive. However, BI owns no non-stative and split transitive clauses. It can be shown that affixes in BI play a significant role in determining types of construction, particularly in the passive. As one of the agglutinative languages, BI shows its property, in which affixed occurred.

Abstract

The research was conducted to explore the application of the E-Matching Game in elementary school. The study used qualitative and quantitative methods. The results show that teachers face two problems in implementing the game: requiring adequate facilities and technical issues that occur when the teaching and learning process is in progress: teachers’ and students’ opinions regarding implementing the E-Matching Game. The teachers feel they can create enjoyable learning and get students involved in teaching and learning. The students can remember the vocabulary taught and integrate spelling, pronunciation, and meaning, and the students like it. The learning outcome can be seen from the pre-test and post-test given before and after implementing the E-Matching Game. Teaching English using the E-Matching Game is highly recommended because it is enjoyable, makes the students active, makes it easier to remember vocabulary, integrates spelling, pronunciation and meaning, and students love the game. The E-Matching game has increased elementary school students’ English vocabulary.

Abstract

This article aims at establishing hypothesis-based suggestions in promoting government public policy toward Indonesian using indigenous language. This research was conducted descriptively to describe the phenomena found. The data were also obtained from libraries and related sources. The results of the study indicate that the rapid development of the Bahasa Indonesia does not necessarily eliminate the role of regional languages. This is because regional languages still have a vital function. The existence of regional languages makes it easy for the government to convey their policies, especially for people who still use regional languages. Therefore, it is important to always preserve regional languages.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the genetic relationship between Balinese and Balinese Malay quantitatively and qualitatively. The research was conducted in three steps: 1) data collection, 2) data analysis, and 3) data display. Data collection was conducted by implementing the interview method through a guided interview, recording, and note-taking techniques. The data were 200 Swadesh word lists collected from speakers of both languages as the data. Data analysis was conducted by implementing lexicostatistics and phonemic correspondence techniques. The data were displayed formally and informally, as well as in both combinations. The research results showed that both languages have a 36% genetic relationship percentage. The time between the two languages was presumed to have diverged around 2,354 – 2,157 years ago. It is estimated that both languages started to diverge from their earlier proto-language around 2,569 years ago. In addition, six phonemic correspondences of both languages consist of /ə – a /, / i – ə /, / a – ə /, / o – u /, / u – o /, and / h – r /. Concerning the levels of language classification, the genetic relationship of both languages belongs to a common language family since the results are within the percentage range (36-81%) and diverged year range (500-2,500) years. Based on the genetic language typology, it can be concluded that both languages belong to Austronesian languages. Specifically, they belong to the subfamily Malayo-Sumbawan languages.
