Abstract

This study evaluates service quality and farmer satisfaction in agribusiness-oriented entrepreneurship training programs for corn farmers. The research focuses on identifying gaps between farmers’ expectations and perceptions of training services across five SERVQUAL dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. A survey was conducted with 100 corn farmers who had participated in entrepreneurship training programs in Majalengka Regency, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using a modified SERVQUAL instrument integrated with Importance–Performance Analysis (IPA) and the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) to assess service performance and determine priority areas for improvement. The results indicate that, overall, farmers report a high level of satisfaction with the training programs, as reflected by a CSI value of 85.99 percent. However, the IPA results reveal that responsiveness of trainers and the adequacy of physical facilities remain key areas requiring improvement, as these dimensions exhibit relatively lower performance compared to their perceived importance. In contrast, assurance and empathy demonstrate strong performance and should be maintained to support training effectiveness. This study contributes to agribusiness management literature by providing an evaluative framework for assessing entrepreneurship training quality and participant satisfaction in smallholder farming contexts. Practically, the findings offer managerial and policy insights for training providers and agricultural extension agencies in designing more responsive, well-supported, and sustainable entrepreneurship training programs for corn farmers.   Keywords: service quality, farmer satisfaction, entrepreneurship training, agribusiness management, corn farmers

Abstract

Maize is a strategic agricultural commodity used both as a food source and as a major component of animal feed, making increased production increasingly important. One way to improve maize productivity is to use superior maize seeds. However, farmers’ access to these seeds remains uneven due to constraints in the distribution system. This study analyzes the social network structure of the maize seed distribution system and identifies the key actors influencing farmers’ access to seeds, information, and solutions. Using a Social Network Analysis (SNA) approach with an ego-network perspective, the study was conducted in two maize-producing sub-districts in Garut Regency and involved 100 farmers selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Gephi 0.10. The results show that the seed distribution network is direct, heterogeneous, and relatively sparse, with farmers connected mainly to specific central actors rather than through intermediary channels. Farm shops, fellow farmers, and government assistance programmes occupy dominant positions in the network, indicating the importance of market-based mechanisms, informal farmer networks, and state support in shaping seed access. In contrast, local institutional actors, particularly cooperatives and farmer groups, have not played an optimal role in the distribution network. These findings suggest that improving farmers’ access to superior maize seeds requires strengthening local farmer institutions, increasing coordination among distribution actors, and reducing dependence on a limited number of dominant actors.

Abstract

Large red chili is a high value horticultural commodity that plays a vital role in meeting Indonesia's food demands, both for domestic consumption and industrial purposes. The high production rate of red chili corresponds with increasing consumer needs, influenced by diverse preferences that shape purchasing behavior, perceptions, and decisions. This study aims to identify the attributes most considered by consumers and analyze the combinations of large red chili attributes based on consumer preferences in Bandung City. A quantitative descriptive method was employed using questionnaires, with perceptual mapping applied to evaluate consumer perceptions and conjoint analysis used to determine consumer preferences. The findings reveal that consumer perceptions of price and freshness attributes tend to be neutral, with average scores of 3 on a Likert scale. Meanwhile, shelf life, taste, and color are perceived positively, with average scores of 4. Regarding preferences, consumers prioritize a combination of affordable prices (<Rp20,000.00/kg), high shelf life (5–6 days), very fresh conditions, mildly spicy taste, and bright red color. Among all attributes, freshness is identified as the most critical factor based on its relative importance in shaping consumer preferences.
