Abstract

This study was motivated by the phenomenon of low participation among residents of RT 03 RW 04, South Utan Kayu Village, Matraman Subdistrict, East Jakarta, in conveying their concerns to the Village Consultative Body (LMK), despite the availability of communication channels. This study aims to determine the role of the LMK in maintaining two way communication with the community, to understand the forms of two way communication that occur, and to identify the obstacles encountered. This study employs the Symmetrical Two Way Communication theory proposed by Grunig and Hunt. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques including non participant observation, in depth interviews, and documentation from five informants. The results indicate that the LMK serves as a communication bridge between residents and the village administration through deliberative forums and a WhatsApp group. The barriers identified include delays in following up on residents concerns due to bureaucratic processes, as well as limited resident attendance at deliberative forums. Thus, two way communication between the LMK and the community of RT 03 RW 04 South Utan Kayu continues despite various obstacles, as the LMK consistently fulfills its role as a conduit for residents concerns and information from the sub district office.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the symbolic meaning of custom motorcycles as a medium of identity expression among builders in the Cempaka Baru 10 area. Custom motorcycles not only function as a means of transportation but also serve as a medium for expressing values, character, creativity, and the identities of their owners and builders. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving custom motorcycle builders actively engaged in the Cempaka Baru 10 area. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that custom motorcycles are interpreted as representations of personal identity, reflecting the builders' character, life experiences, aesthetic preferences, and personal values. The shape, style, color, and various modification elements of the motorcycles contain symbolic meanings that are used to distinguish builders from others while demonstrating their uniqueness and creativity. Furthermore, custom motorcycles function as a form of symbolic communication, enabling builders to convey messages, status, and self-image to their social environment. Therefore, custom motorcycles serve as a medium of identity expression that carries social, cultural, and personal significance for builders.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has encouraged the emergence of Instagram second accounts as alternative spaces for self-expression, particularly among Generation Z men who continue to experience social expectations related to masculinity. This study aims to examine how Generation Z men in RW 13 Tebet, South Jakarta, use Instagram second accounts as alternative spaces for self-expression. The research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and consisted of three active Instagram second account users and one triangulation informant. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that second accounts function as private spaces where users freely express emotions, personal experiences, opinions, interests, and daily activities that are rarely shared on their main accounts. Participants reported feeling safer because their audiences were limited to trusted individuals, reducing social pressure and fear of negative judgment. From Erving Goffman's dramaturgical perspective, the main account represents the front stage, while the second account functions as the backstage where users present more authentic identities. This study concludes that Instagram second accounts serve not only as backup accounts but also as digital identity management strategies that support emotional well-being among Generation Z men.

Abstract

Background. Universities face challenges in improving the effectiveness of lecturer performance evaluation to support education and research development. Purpose. Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers the potential to optimize the evaluation process through automation, big data analysis, and smarter decision-making. Method. This research aims to identify and implement strategies for the implementation of artificial intelligence in lecturer performance evaluation systems in higher education. The main focus is to improve the objectivity, accuracy, and efficiency of the evaluation process, so as to provide more meaningful feedback to lecturers. This research uses qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were obtained through literature studies, interviews with education and technology experts, and analysis of existing lecturer performance evaluation data. An AI system was developed to process and analyze evaluation data by utilizing machine learning algorithms to provide more accurate evaluation recommendations. Results. The result of this research is that implementing artificial intelligence in the lecturer performance evaluation system succeeded in improving the accuracy of the evaluation. The system is able to provide recommendations for lecturer development based on a thorough analysis of their performance. In addition, the time efficiency of the evaluation process was also significantly improved. Conclusion. The conclusion of this study shows that artificial intelligence implementation strategies can be successfully applied in lecturer performance evaluation systems in higher education. With increased objectivity, accuracy, and efficiency, this system makes a positive contribution to human resource management in the academic environment. It also encourages further implementation of AI technology in lecturer performance evaluation to improve the quality of higher education.
