Abstract

The implementation of socioscientific issues in science learning has increased recently. The purpose of this study is to highlight research trends over the previous ten years by examining the findings of bibliometric papers on socio-scientific issues. A total of 648 articles from the English-language Scopus database were analyzed using the VOS Viewer. The results of the analysis reveal that studies related to socio-scientific issues over the last ten years are still an increasing research trend. Keywords related to socio-scientific issues such as argumentation, decision making, scientific literacy, critical thinking, and climate change. The journal sources that were most cited were the international journal of science education, journal of research in science teaching, research in science education, international journal of science and mathematics education, science and education. Articles that are widely cited by other authors are Sadler T.D, Zeidler, D.L, Osborn, J, Eilks, I, Erduran, S, Lederman, N.G, Simon, S. Leading countries in the field of socio-scientific issues are the United States, Germany, Sweden, Taiwan, Australia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Canada, Spain, Indonesia. Further researchers can conduct scientific studies on socio-scientific issues by using educational technology in the form of digital media and other variables that have not been studied or are still little researched.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of scientific explanation ability of high school students, especially on the material of the human circulatory system. The type of research used is quantitative research with survey methods shared through google forms. The subjects of the study were high school students who had received human circulation system material in one of several schools in Central Java, the research sample was selected through random sampling techniques from the population.  The research instrument used was adapted from McNeill, Lizotte, Krajcik, and Marx (2016) which consisted of 9 long answer questions to be able to determine the success of aspects of claim, evidence, and reasoning in scientific explanation. The instrument has been declared valid and reliable through Rasch Model testing. The research data is in the form of scores from student answers which are then processed through the Rasch Model to determine the level of difficulty and wright map person (students) to find out the profile of each student's scientific explanation ability. The results showed that 78% of students were still at the lower middle level in compiling the three aspects of scientific explanation, and only 12% of students were able to achieve maximum scores in the preparation of claims, evidence, and reasoning.

Abstract

This research developed an environment-based critical thinking skills test instrument for science learning in class VII middle school to answer the problem of students' low critical thinking skills in Indonesia. The aim of the research is to produce a valid and reliable instrument to measure students' critical thinking skills in an environmental context. The research method uses the ADDIE development model with a pre-experimental design (one group pretest-posttest). Research findings show that the instrument developed has high validity and reliability and is able to significantly improve students' critical thinking skills. The conclusion of this research is that environment-based test instruments are effective in measuring and improving students' critical thinking skills. The implications of this research show the importance of integrating environmental issues in learning modules to improve the quality of science education in Indonesia.

Abstract

The development of learning in the 21st century emphasizes the improvement of Science Process Skills (SPS). However, the implementation of SPS has not been able to be realized by teachers due to the limitations of the teaching materials used. The data obtained shows that the average value of SPS for students is still categorized as low, which is 43.3%. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the implementation of E-module based on Problem Research Based Learning (PRBL) on students' Science Process Skills (SPS). The research method used is Quasi Experimental research with research samples of class VIII A and VIII D in one of the Surakarta State Junior High Schools. The experimental class was given an e-module based on PRBL containing material on elements, compounds and mixtures while the control class used the BSE book with an interactive lecture method. The data collection technique used a written test instrument in the form of a SPS test with a reasoned multiple choice type. The effectiveness test used was the t-test, effect size and n-gain score. The results of the t-test showed a significance value of 0.00 which means there is a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. These results prove that there is a difference in the results of students' SPS between the experimental class and the control class. Furthermore, the results of the effect size test with a moderate effect category of 0.63 and the n-gain score test with a high category of 0.702 for the experimental class. Based on the results of the three tests, it can be concluded that the implementation of PRBL-based e-modules is effective in increasing students' SPS.
