Abstract

This study investigates the effect of SiO₂–TiO₂ nanocomposite coating with polyaniline (PANI) addition on the wettability properties of textile fabrics. The research was conducted through a laboratory-scale experimental approach by applying nanocomposite coatings onto textile substrates using the dip-coating method. Calcination temperatures of 600°C, 700°C, 800°C, and 900°C were employed to evaluate the influence of thermal treatment on surface characteristics. Wettability performance was assessed by measuring water contact angles before and after twenty washing cycles to determine coating durability. The results indicate that all coated fabrics exhibited hydrophilic behavior, characterized by contact angles below 90°, demonstrating enhanced surface affinity toward water. Variations in calcination temperature significantly affected the contact angle values, reflecting changes in surface structure and chemical properties of the nanocomposite layer. After repeated washing, a decrease in hydrophilic performance was observed, suggesting partial degradation or detachment of the coating layer. The presence of PANI, which contains polar functional groups, is considered to contribute to improved surface wettability. Overall, the SiO₂–TiO₂/PANI nanocomposite coating shows potential for functional textile applications requiring controlled hydrophilic properties, although further optimization is necessary to improve long-term stability.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of SiO2–TiO2/PANI nanocomposite concentration on the surface morphology of cotton fabrics relevant to self-cleaning performance. A controlled laboratory experiment was conducted using four compositional ratios, while TiO2 content was fixed to isolate the structural role of SiO2 and PANI. Nanocomposites were synthesized via a sol–gel route, deposited by dip coating, and characterized using SEM combined with quantitative image analysis. The results demonstrate a systematic morphological evolution from relatively homogeneous, fine particle distributions to coarser and more agglomerated structures as PANI concentration decreased. Particle size distributions ranged predominantly between 40–90 nm, with higher PANI fractions promoting dispersion uniformity and reduced surface roughness. Increasing SiO2 dominance intensified particle growth and agglomeration, indicating altered interfacial interactions within the composite layer. Comparative analysis with prior studies confirms that oxide–polymer balance governs micro–nano architecture on textile substrates. These findings elucidate composition–structure relationships critical for optimizing functional textile coatings

Abstract

This study aims to develop an assessment instrument based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) to assess high school students' problem-solving abilities in the subject of physics on renewable energy using the Plomp development model. The study was conducted through three main stages, namely (1) preliminary research to analyze needs (2) prototyping phase to design and validate the assessment instrument, and (3) assessment phase to conduct limited trials and product revisions. The assessment instrument was developed by containing essay questions based on real contexts that require critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills. The results of expert validation showed that the assessment was in the valid category with an average percentage score of 0.93. Trials on high school students showed that the assessment was able to measure variations in problem-solving abilities more comprehensively. Thus, this HOTS assessment based on the Plomp model is effective for evaluating physics problem-solving abilities.

Abstract

Particle Dynamics learning requires higher-order thinking skills, particularly critical thinking skills. However, many students still experience difficulties in analyzing problems and drawing appropriate inferences related to physics concepts. This study aims to analyze undergraduate students’ critical thinking skills profiles and examine the need for developing electronic student worksheets (E-Student Worksheets) for Particle Dynamics learning. A quantitative descriptive approach with a descriptive exploratory design was employed. The participants were 61 undergraduate students from a Physics Education program who had completed or were currently taking the Basic Physics course. The participants were selected using purposive sampling because they had prior exposure to Particle Dynamics concepts, making them suitable for critical thinking skills assessment and needs analysis. Data were collected using two instruments: a critical thinking skills test and a needs analysis questionnaire. The critical thinking skills test consisted of open-ended physics problems designed based on Facione’s framework of critical thinking indicators, including interpretation, analysis, evaluation, explanation, and inference. Descriptive statistical analysis using mean scores and percentages was applied to analyze the data. The results indicate that students’ critical thinking skills are generally low, with average scores ranging from 35 to 39 across all indicators, particularly in the areas of analysis and inference. Furthermore, the needs analysis results show that all indicators related to instructional material development fall within the “Needed” category (61–80%), supported by students’ high digital engagement. These findings imply that instructional materials should be designed to provide structured guidance that facilitates students’ reasoning processes in solving Particle Dynamics problems. Therefore, the development of critical thinking–integrated electronic student worksheets is considered urgent and has strong potential to improve the quality of Particle Dynamics learning at the undergraduate level

Abstract

This study examines the influence of compaction temperature on Marshall stability in hydrophobic self-healing hybrid asphalt using a quantitative laboratory experimental approach. The asphalt mixture was formulated with penetration grade 60/70 binder and standard aggregates, modified by nanosilica to enhance hydrophobic characteristics and Escherichia coli as a biological self-healing agent. Compaction temperatures of 180°C, 185°C, and 190°C were evaluated alongside a 150°C control sample without modification. The results indicate a non-linear relationship between temperature and mechanical performance, with stability increasing to an optimum condition at 185°C before declining at higher temperatures. This trend reflects improved densification and aggregate interlocking at moderate temperatures, while excessive heat reduces binder effectiveness due to softening. Volumetric parameters further demonstrate that optimal temperature conditions contribute to balanced void distribution and improved binder efficiency. Additionally, the hybrid system exhibits multi-scale interactions between nano-modification and microbial healing mechanisms, enhancing durability and resistance to environmental factors. These findings emphasize the importance of precise thermal control in optimizing both structural integrity and functional performance of advanced asphalt materials.

Abstract

The high water absorption of concrete causes the concrete to easily experience cracking and damage. One way to increase the durability of concrete is by adding microbes which can fill the micro cavities in the concrete with the resulting Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) deposits. However, the weakness of using microorganisms is that they are unable to withstand high hydration heat. Therefore, by varying the temperature in this research, it is possible to determine the effect of the metabolism of the bacteria produced. This research was carried out to avoid damage by creating a hydrophobic and self-healing layer which helps increase the durability and strength of the concrete. The concrete sample made resembles a cube measuring 5 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm. The manufacturing materials are Portland cement, Otawa sand, distilled water and a mixture of E. coli bacteria. Heating was carried out using an oven at temperatures of 30, 60, 90, and 120 oC. Characterization testing was carried out using a Cpmreson machine, XRD and contact angle testing.
