Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of administration of ciplukan (Physalis angulate Linn.) leaf extract on the variables of testicular weight, seminiferous tubules diameter, and spermatozoa plasma membrane integrity of rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to heat as model animals. Rats were divided randomly into five groups. In the NC group, rats were not exposed to heat and were only given 1% Na-CMC. In the PC, T1, T2, and T3 rats were exposed to heat followed by administration of 1% Na-CMC, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg bw of ciplukan leaf extract (CLE) in 1% Na-CMC. Heat exposure at 40°C was conducted for 60 minutes every day for 21 days. On day-22, all rats were sacrificed for testicular evaluation. The results showed that all variables in the PC group were lower (p <0.05) than in the NC group. All variables in the T3 group were higher (p <0.05) than in the PC group. Testicular weight and spermatozoa plasma membrane integrity in the T3 group were not significantly different (p >0.05) from the NC group. However, the diameter of the seminiferous tubules in the T3 group were lower (p <0.05) than in the NC group. This study revealed that the administration of ciplukan leaf extract as an antioxidant increased testicular weight, seminiferous tubules diameter, and spermatozoa with intact plasma membrane in rats exposed to heat.

Abstract

Reproductive disorders are the main cause of economic losses in beef herds. This study aimed to determine the type of reproductive disorder in beef cows in Kedamean district, Gresik regency, related to feeding, age, and parity. The method used for this study was a survey. Primary data was obtained from field surveys by interviewing farmers, animal health officials, inseminators, and direct inspection of cows and pens. Secondary data was obtained from the Gresik Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Service. The data obtained was then compiled and performed descriptively. The results showed that the number of productive cows in this study area was 935, of which 340 (36.36%) had reproductive disorders. The highest type of reproductive disorder was ovarian hypofunction (OHF) (14.55%, 136/935) and the smallest was cystic ovaries (0.11%, 1/935). Cows aged two and three years (heifers and first parity) have a percentage of reproductive disorders of more than 60% compared to cows of other ages, most of them (13.82% and 12.65%) were OHF. The cows fed straw have a greater percentage of reproductive disorders than cows fed field grass. Cases of OHF engaged the first position followed by cases of silent estrus and persistent corpus luteum. It could be concluded that reproductive disorders in the form of OHF, persistent corpus luteum, and silent estrus in several villages in Kedamean district, Gresik regency, East Java, Indonesia in 2023 mostly occured at the age of two to three years on heifers or first parity, fed straw.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to explore health company profits during the pandemic from the perspective of managerial ownership and environmental performance accompanied by the moderating role of independent commissioners. The use of Sharia-based health sector companies as companies that are very closely related to the pandemic events that occurred during the observation period of 2020-2021 resulted in 16 companies using quarterly reports, so there are 64 studio data. The data obtained was subjected to prerequisite tests using the classical assumption test, which was then tested by conducting F-test and t-test regression based on the hypotheses that had been developed. The study results prove that managerial ownership and environmental performance simultaneously increase profits. However, partially managerial ownership influences increasing profits, while environmental performance has no effect. The role of the independent board of commissioners has been proven to not influence managerial ownership and environmental performance in increasing the profits of Sharia companies in the health sector. This study implies that managerial ownership factors, environmental performance, and an independent board of commissioners play an essential role in increasing the profits of Sharia companies in the health sector, especially during the pandemic. The results can encourage strategic decision-making related to ownership structure and corporate governance to achieve sustainability and profitability.

Abstract

This research aimed to assess the efficacy of ethylene glycol-sucrose as an alternative cryoprotectant compared to commercial cryoprotectants by focusing on the expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and bone morphogenetic protein-15 (BMP-15) in goat oocyte cumulus complexes after warming with identification using the immunocytochemical analysis. Maturated oocytes were divided into 3 groups, i.e., (C) the control group followed by an immunocytochemical examination, and two treatment groups, i.e., (P1) was exposed to a commercial cryoprotectant for 15 minutes, then placed in a hemistraw and dipped in liquid nitrogen, and (P2) was exposed to 30% ethylene glycol and 1 M sucrose for 15 minutes, then placed in a hemistraw and dipped in liquid nitrogen. The results revealed divergent responses in IGF-1 (CG = 9.00 ± 3.00; P1 = 9.50 ± 3.20; P2 = 4.67 ± 0.94) and BMP-15 (CG = 10.50 ± 3.35; P1 = 9.50 ± 2.69; P2 = 5.50 ± 3.64) expression patterns, possibly influenced by the two cryoprotectant abilities and oocytes performing their permeabilities to cryoprotectant solution. We concluded that each cryoprotectant is necessary to mitigate the adverse impact on gene expression in oocytes so that we can use it for reproductive technologies.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine whether breed and body condition score (BCS) can influence ovarian weight, follicle number, and oocyte quality. This study used 90 ovaries from 15 Friesian Holstein crossbreed, 15 Ongole crossbreed, and 15 Limousin crossbreed cows obtained from an abattoir. Before the ovaries were taken, the BCS of the cows was determined. The BCS system used in this study is BCS with a scale of 1 to 5. Ovaries were weighed, follicles were measured and grouped by size (2 mm, 2-6 mm, 6 mm) then counted, oocytes were aspirated from the follicles then observed under a microscope. Oocyte quality was observed and then grouped into grade A, B, C, D based on cumulus oocyte complex (COCs). Data were analyzed using two way ANOVA and chi square test. The results of the analysis showed that breed did not influence ovarian weight, but influenced the number of follicles, and oocyte quality. In Friesian Holstein crossbreed cows, BCS affects ovarian weight, follicle number, and oocyte quality. In Ongole crossbreed cows, BCS had no effect on ovary weight, but did affect follicle number and oocyte quality. In Limousin crossbredcows, BCS had no effect on ovary weight and follicle number, but did affect oocyte quality.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of green products, halal certification, and halal awareness on the purchasing decisions of Oriflame products in Banjarmasin. With growing environmental concerns and increasing awareness of halal consumption, Muslim consumers are now considering both the eco-friendliness and the halal status of products before making purchasing decisions. This research uses a quantitative approach, collecting data through questionnaires distributed to 96 respondents who are Oriflame consumers in Banjarmasin. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS 25. The results show that green products, halal certification, and halal awareness have a positive and significant effect on purchasing decisions, both individually and collectively. Specifically, halal awareness was found to be the most influential factor in shaping purchasing decisions. The study also reveals that while green products are essential for consumers concerned about the environment, halal certification plays a crucial role in ensuring the product’s compliance with Islamic law, fostering trust among Muslim consumers. The findings suggest that companies marketing to Muslim consumers should emphasize both the sustainability of their products and their halal certification to meet the growing demand for ethically and religiously compliant goods. This research contributes to understanding consumer behavior in the halal product market, particularly in Indonesia, and offers valuable insights for businesses seeking to target eco-conscious Muslim consumers.
