Abstract

Abstract

Pregnancy involves profound physiological and psychosocial changes that increase vulnerability to stress and anxiety. Psychological resilience has been widely recognized as a protective factor for maternal mental health; however, existing research has largely emphasized functional outcomes, with limited attention to meaning-oriented coping processes underlying maternal adaptation. This systematic literature review aimed to synthesize empirical and conceptual evidence on meaning-oriented resilience in relation to pregnancy anxiety and maternal well-being. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, systematic searches were conducted in Scopus and Google Scholar, yielding 26 eligible studies analyzed through theory-driven thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that psychological resilience operates as a dynamic coping process that reduces prenatal anxiety and supports emotional regulation and adjustment. Religious and spiritual coping consistently emerged as meaning-oriented mechanisms that strengthen resilience by enabling pregnant women to interpret pregnancy experiences within value-based and existential frameworks. Conceptual evidence suggests that ṣabr represents an active form of meaning-oriented resilience characterized by emotional regulation, endurance, and value-driven perseverance. While most studies focused on symptom reduction, emerging evidence highlights the role of resilience and spirituality in promoting holistic maternal well-being. This review advances a meaning-oriented framework of maternal resilience integrating psychological and Islamic perspectives and supports the incorporation of meaning-based and culturally sensitive approaches within midwifery care to enhance maternal mental health during pregnancy.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable instrument to measure preparedness for death from an Islamic perspective. This measurement tool is essential for Muslim communities as it incorporates Islamic religious values. The research was conducted in three stages: literature review, semi-structured interviews, and blueprint development. The collected data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to examine the factor structure and construct validity of the instrument. The initial blueprint consisted of 55 items, which were reduced to 20 items after content validity assessment by seven experts (three Islamic scholars and four psychologists). The instrument was administered to 205 respondents. The EFA results refined the scale from four factors and 20 items to two factors and 19 items. The findings indicate that preparedness for death in Islam comprises two dimensions: a transcendental dimension (belief in destiny, awareness of the afterlife, and commitment to worship) and a social dimension (support from family, peers, and the religious environment).

Abstract

The ewuh pakewuh culture in Javanese society reflects a feeling of hesitation or reluctance to express opinions in order to maintain social harmony. This study aims to develop a measurement instrument or ewuh pakewuh scale based on Javanese cultural values that meets the criteria of validity and reliability. The research process involved both qualitative and quantitative stages. The qualitative stage aimed to collect data on the concept of ewuh pakewuh through open-ended questionnaires. A total of 41 respondents were involved to explore the cultural meaning of the concept, which resulted in six conceptual aspects: social interaction, social norms, hierarchy, communication, social conformity, and self-expression. Based on these aspects, 35 items were constructed and tested in the quantitative phase. The quantitative stage involved 763 respondents and was analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The results identified three main dimensions: self-expression, indirect social communication, and conformity to hierarchy. The scale showed high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha > 0.89; KMO = 0.951). These findings indicate that the developed scale is construct-valid and reliable for measuring ewuh pakewuh tendencies within the Javanese cultural context.

Abstract

Background: Research on pregnancy-related stress has expanded markedly alongside growing recognition of maternal mental health as a key determinant of perinatal outcomes. Evidence shows that stress during pregnancy can lead to lasting physiological and psychological consequences for both mothers and offspring. However, a comprehensive understanding of thematic development and research trajectories in this field remains limited. Purpose: To map the principal thematic domains in pregnancy-related stress research and examine the evolution of research topics, dominant scientific orientations, and methodological trends over time. Method: A bibliometric analysis was conducted on 365 Scopus-indexed articles using SciMAT. Four analytical approaches were applied: performance analysis, keyword evolution analysis, longitudinal analysis, and period-based thematic analysis. The study period (1997–2025) was divided into five intervals to capture temporal dynamics and shifts in thematic networks. Results: Core themes such as risk factors, prenatal exposure delayed effects, and anxiety disorders demonstrated high centrality and density, indicating their foundational role. Emerging themes including paternal care, circadian rhythms, and non-pharmacological therapies reflect a growing multidisciplinary and holistic orientation. Persistent gaps were identified, particularly limited validation of peripartum anxiety measures, underuse of biometric methods, and insufficient attention to culturally responsive interventions. Conclusion: This study maps pregnancy-related stress across five periods, highlighting persistent links to risk factors, prenatal exposure, and long-term outcomes. Core themes include delayed effects and anxiety disorders, with emerging focus on paternal roles, biological rhythms, and sex differences. Findings call for rigorous, longitudinal, cross-cultural research using digital tools and SciMAT insights.
