Abstract

Purpose: Southeast Asian equity markets face recurring crises in which cross-asset correlations rise and diversification weakens. Evidence on the joint defensive roles of gold, silver, platinum, and palladium for the equity markets of Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia remains fragmented. Research Design and Methodology: This study evaluates the hedge and safe-haven properties of gold (XAU), silver (XAG), platinum (XPT), and palladium (XPD) for the Jakarta Composite Index (JKSE), the Straits Times Index (STI), and the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) using daily data from July 1st, 2005 to June 30th, 2025, divided into two sub-periods. Metals are priced in domestic currency, trading days are synchronized, and returns are computed as log differences. GARCH(1,1) models estimated under Gaussian, generalized error distribution, and Student-t innovations are combined with quantile regression (τ = 0.10–0.50) to capture tail dependence. Findings and Discussion: Results indicate that XAU is the only metal consistently hedging the three indices, evidenced by negative average coefficients, while its safe-haven role is state-dependent, strengthening during specific distress episodes. XAG, XPT, and XPD exhibit positive co-movement even at low quantiles, consistent with diversification or pro-cyclicality. Implications: The findings reinforce safe-haven status as regime- and tail-dependent and support gold as an adaptive crisis overlay in ASEAN equity risk management.

Abstract

The circumcision service industry in Malang City has grown rapidly, with a 46.84% increase in clinics over five years, intensifying competition among providers. Consumer decision-making in elective healthcare services such as circumcision involves factors beyond medical considerations. This study examines the factors influencing consumer choices of circumcision clinics using the 7Ps marketing mix framework. A quantitative approach was employed, distributing questionnaires to 195 parents who used circumcision services for children under 12 during 2023–2024 in Malang. Using purposive sampling, the data were analyzed through Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess construct validity and variable relationships. Results show that only four marketing mix elements significantly influenced decisions: price, process, product, and people. Meanwhile, place, promotion, and physical evidence were not significant. This suggests consumers prioritize fair pricing, service quality, efficient procedures, and professional staff over clinic location, advertising, or interior design. The study’s novelty lies in focusing specifically on specialized circumcision clinics within Malang City, a category previously understudied despite its economic relevance. Limitations include a narrow geographic focus and a quantitative design, which may overlook emotional or subjective factors. Future research should expand geographically and incorporate qualitative or mixed methods for deeper insight into consumer motivations.

Abstract

Indonesia's live-stream-selling business is experiencing growth as more social media vendors are embracing live-streaming platforms. Online live selling has rendered purchasers vulnerable to compulsive purchasing and the dopamine trap, as it generates a feeling of exhilaration and social coercion. This research investigates the moderating effects of fear of missing out (FOMO) and perceived satisfaction on the relationship between the perceived usefulness of live streaming and online compulsive buying activity. The respondents in this study were 154 people who had watched live streaming of social commerce and carried out online compulsive buying activities. This study uses convenience sampling as a technique to determine the sample. Each question item is assessed using seven scales. This study uses structural equation modeling partial least squares to analyze the data. This research shows that the influence of the perceived usefulness of live streaming can increase online compulsive buying activity. Apart from that, the critical role of FOMO and perceived enjoyment can moderate the influence of the perceived usefulness of live streaming on online compulsive buying activity. This study makes a valuable contribution to the field of dual process theory. This study also offers practical implications for managers, highlighting the undeniable impact of the fear of missing out on individuals who find satisfaction in live streaming. This fear intensifies their anxiety and desire to stay connected with others' activities, especially if they believe that participating in live streaming is crucial for maintaining relationships or staying informed.

Abstract

An increase in preloved fashion sales is certainly shifting the market, reflecting a changing consumer penchant for sustainable purchases, self-expression, and emotional health. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the role of hedonic motivation, self-brand congruence, and emotional resonance in the shopping happiness of Indonesian customers purchasing preloved items. Each variable was related to satisfaction in different ways and collectively provided insight into positive outcomes in the Indonesian market. A centralized method was used to conduct the study, collecting data via Google Forms from a sample of 179 individuals in different Indonesian cities to prepare for Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis. The result shows that hedonic motivation has a positive and significant effect on self-brand congruence. This implies that customers with hedonic motivation experienced stronger compatibility with selected brands. Furthermore, self-brand congruence is shown to influence emotional resonance and shopping happiness positively. Consumers in the preloved market are also influenced by price or functional benefits, as well as emotional experiences and personal identity ties. This study enhances the theoretical comprehension of digital consumer happiness as both a model and construct, examining the variable as an affective and identity-based concept that surpassed the limits of customer pleasure and happiness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of product quality, perceived nostalgia, and emotional connection on repurchase intention among consumers of the traditional culinary product The Bolu Rampah in South Sulawesi. The research is motivated by the shifting consumption patterns of society, particularly among younger generations, who tend to adopt modern foods and gradually abandon traditional culinary products. The Bolu Rampah, as a distinctive cake made from local spices, holds significant potential to be developed not only as a consumer product but also as a cultural identity symbol and regional specialty. This research employs a quantitative explanatory approach involving 150 respondents selected through purposive sampling, with the criteria of having purchased The Bolu Rampah at least once within the last six months. The research instrument was developed based on validated indicators from previous studies and measured using a five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method. The results indicate that product quality, perceived nostalgia, and emotional connection have a positive and significant effect on repurchase intention. Among these variables, emotional connection is found to be the most dominant factor influencing repurchase intention. This finding suggests that consumer loyalty toward The Bolu Rampah is driven not only by functional product attributes such as taste and physical quality but also by emotional and cultural values embedded in the product. Practically, the findings highlight the importance of implementing emotional branding and cultural marketing strategies to strengthen The Bolu Rampah's identity as a signature souvenir of South Sulawesi that evokes not only sensory satisfaction but also collective memory and local pride.

Abstract

This study examines why customers of Bank Central Asia (BCA) Regional Office 2 Semarang decide to use digital banking services. The research framework is adapted from the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and is extended by including digital literacy, trust in transaction security, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and digital product innovation. Data were collected through a quantitative survey of 92 BCA customers and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to identify which factors are most relevant to digital banking adoption. The findings reveal that trust in transaction security (?=0.316, p<0.001) and digital product innovation (?=0.365, p<0.01) have significant positive effects on digital banking adoption, explaining 84.1% of the variance in adoption behavior. In contrast, digital literacy, perceived usefulness, and ease of use were found to be statistically insignificant predictors in this context. These results suggest that for customers with high digital maturity, security and innovation factors outweigh traditional TAM constructs in driving adoption. The study offers practical input for BCA in strengthening customer confidence, improving digital features, and encouraging more consistent use of digital banking services.

Abstract

In live streaming e-commerce, independent sellers who conduct live broadcasts commonly employ scarcity messages. The impact of these messages prompts consumers to process information with relatively low cognitive effort, leading them to implicitly conclude that the product is rare, difficult to obtain, and therefore perceived as valuable and appealing. This perception generates an urgency that drives consumers to make purchases before the offer ends, thus accelerating their decision-making process. This study examines how the fear of missing out on limited-time offers and limited quantities influences purchasing decisions during live streaming, particularly how concerns about items selling out lead to impulsive online buying. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing a structured questionnaire survey distributed to TikTok Shop users as the primary data collection tool. Data were collected from 210 respondents who had previously made purchases via TikTok live streaming. Data analysis was conducted using WarpPLS 8.0 software to assess validity and reliability and to test the hypotheses. The results of this study indicate that limited time scarcity and perceived sellout risk are able to increase significantly. Limited-time scarcity has a positive and significant effect on online impulsive buying, while limited-quantity scarcity has a positive and insignificant effect on online impulsive buying. Other results indicate that perceived sellout risk is able to increase online impulsive buying significantly.
