Abstract

Solok Radjo Farmers' Cooperative plays a role in promoting sustainable agriculture in Solok Regency. This study analyzes the persuasive communication carried out by the cooperative’s management and the changes in farmers' thinking and behavior as a result of this communication. Using a constructivist paradigm with a case study approach, data was collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The Elaboration Likelihood Theory is applied to understand how persuasion is received and influences farmers' attitude changes. The findings show that persuasive communication is conducted through group discussions, field visits, collaborations, and quarterly meetings. This strategy effectively enhances farmers' understanding, particularly through field visits that encourage them to continue farming. One of the most influential persuasive methods is providing information about the promising coffee market opportunities, which motivates farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, education and mentoring from the cooperative’s management have encouraged some farmers to switch to organic fertilizers after understanding their benefits. However, these changes have not yet been consistently implemented and have not created a significant impact across the entire farming community. Therefore, more intensive and continuous communication efforts are needed.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines persuasive communication strategies through Instagram, employed by the West Sumatra General Election Commission (KPU) during the 2024 Regional Head Election (PILKADA) campaign. Persuasive communication, an approach aimed at voluntarily influencing audience attitudes and behaviors, forms the core focus of this research. The study explores how persuasive messages are designed, delivered, and received by Millennials and Generation Z, who dominate social media usage. The strategies implemented include leveraging local influencers, producing creative video content, and organizing short film competitions themed around elections. This research employs a qualitative case study approach, involving in-depth interviews, content analysis, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Findings indicate that a combination of engaging visual elements, inspiring narratives, and political symbols effectively enhances political engagement among young generations, with social media interactions increasing by 35%. However, low digital literacy among certain communities presents a significant challenge. This study contributes to the political communication literature by emphasizing the importance of collaboration with local communities and culturally-based content innovation. As recommendations, the research suggests strengthening the relevance of political messages on social media, conducting regular evaluations, and utilizing analytic technologies to improve future campaign effectiveness.

Abstract

The conflict surrounding the change in the direction of the Qibla of the Grand Mosque in Nagari Suayan is the main background of this research. The main focus is to trace how communication patterns are formed in the process of conveying the change. This research aims to explore in depth how the community communicates in responding to the change in the direction of the Qibla and to reveal various communication obstacles that arise in the process. This research uses a qualitative approach with a field study type. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews and direct observation at the location. All data obtained were then analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach to provide a complete and comprehensive picture of the communication dynamics that occurred. The research findings show that the communication patterns applied refer to Harold D. Laswell's communication theory, where information is conveyed by the Ministry of Religion, village officials, and mosque administrators through face-to-face meetings with the community. However, this strategy was not fully accepted by the community, which led to differences of opinion. Some of the people who disagreed finally built a new mosque called Al Jamiaturrahma. The communication obstacles identified include psychological barriers, misunderstanding of meaning (semantics), and environmental factors (ecological).

Abstract

This study examines the management of coconut plantations at Pondok Pesantren Wali Peetu in Desa Air Hitam Laut as an effort to strengthen the economic independence of the pesantren while serving as a holistic educational medium for santri (students). A qualitative research method employing a case study approach was used to explore the management processes, economic roles, and social impacts generated by the plantation. The findings indicate that the involvement of santri in all stages of coconut plantation activities not only produces significant income for the pesantren but also shapes the character, life skills, and leadership qualities of the santri in accordance with Islamic economic principles. This management model applies the “learning by doing” approach and context-based character education, integrating spiritual, technical, and social aspects. The coconut plantation management at the pesantren represents an important innovation that fills the gap in the traditional pesantren educational paradigm with a sustainable community-based economic empowerment approach. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for other pesantren seeking to optimize local resources for sustainability and santri empowerment

Abstract

Economic empowerment of rural communities is a critical aspect of sustainable national development. Suka Maju Village possesses substantial local resource potential but faces various challenges in optimizing these resources, such as limited business capital, low financial literacy, and inadequate infrastructure. This study examines the economic empowerment strategies of the Suka Maju community through the implementation of productive waqf as an innovative and sustainable Islamic economic instrument. A qualitative case study approach was employed to explore the management practices of productive waqf and its impact on improving community welfare. The findings indicate that a participatory and transparent productive waqf management model can increase community income by 30–50%, while simultaneously strengthening social capital through mutual cooperation and community solidarity. The active role of community leaders in adaptive education and communication proved to be a key factor in the program’s success. This study concludes that professional and participatory governance of productive waqf not only supports the sustainability of economic empowerment programs but also provides a replicable framework for the development of other villages grounded in strong socio-religious values

Abstract

Visual impairment presents complex challenges in fostering independence, influenced by physical limitations, environmental barriers, and social perceptions. This study aims to analyze the process of interpersonal communication between social workers and visually impaired residents at Panti Sosial Bina Netra Tuah Sakato Padang in supporting their independence. Using a qualitative case study approach within a constructivist paradigm, data were collected through indepth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, with source and method triangulation applied to ensure validity. The findings reveal that the communication process develops gradually through four stages: introduction to establish a sense of safety, exploratory information exchange, emotional engagement through empathy and support, and the establishment of stable trust. These stages align with Altman and Taylor’s Social Penetration Theory and DeVito’s five dimensions of effective interpersonal communication: openness, empathy, positivity, respect, and equality. Consistent and adaptive communication was found to enhance the self confidence and motivation of visually impaired individuals in developing independent living skills. The results underscore interpersonal communication as a fundamental component in the success of social rehabilitation for people with visual disabilities.

Abstract

Inclusive education is a crucial foundation for providing students with disabilities equal and appropriate educational rights. However, its successful implementation greatly depends on interpersonal communication between teachers and students. This study aims to analyze the role of teachers' interpersonal communication as a key factor in creating an effective and inclusive learning environment. Using a constructivist paradigm and a qualitative case study approach, this study explores in depth the interactions between teachers and students with disabilities in an inclusive classroom environment (with a case study context at the SMP Pembangunan Laboratorium Universitas Negeri Padang). Data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews, with Social Penetration Theory used as the main analytical framework. The results show that effective interpersonal communication and optimization of the teaching and learning process for students with disabilities begin with a personal approach by teachers that is oriented towards building trust and a sense of security. This approach facilitates self-disclosure by students in interactions and learning. Appropriate communication, characterized by the establishment of strong trust, contributes significantly to creating positive relationships and a conducive learning environment. This study concludes that mastery of interpersonal communication based on a personal approach is not merely a method, but a vital foundation for creating supportive and successful interactions in the context of inclusive education. These findings provide theoretical implications regarding the role of social penetration in the context of inclusive education.

Abstract

Inequality in the treatment of victims of sexual violence can be seen in those who do not have friends who talk about feelings of confusion, fear, and a lack of knowledge about what to do after an act of sexual violence occurs. This research discusses the communication activities of companions at Nurani Perempuan with victims of sexual violence in West Sumatra. This research aims to analyze communication activities by Nurani Perempuan Women’s Crisis Center as a companion to victims of sexual violence in West Sumatra. This research uses a case study research approach with research data collection methods by conducting observations, in-depth interviews with companions of victims of sexual violence at Nurani Perempuan, and documentation. The research results show that communication between one victim and another victim is very unique. In order to achieve good communication, the companion must be able to build the victim's trust so that they want to talk about their case. So that the companion who is initially active in asking questions will become a listener to the victim's story until the mentoring process is complete and the victim begins to improve.
