Abstract

There has been an increase in the use of the TGT learning model in physical education, but the lack of TGT research which is associated with enjoyment and basic technical in handball is a gap in research. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of using TGT in improving student-athlete enjoyment and basic techniques. This study applied the true experiment method. The participants were student-athletes from junior high school 46 Palembang (n=30). Physical education classes was conducted in experimental group through TGT, while the control group received conventional PE. The results showed that there were no differences in the value of enjoyment and basic techniques in the experimental and control groups before the experiment, but there were differences after the experiment. Based on the Paired sample t-test it was proven that after teaching handball for 4 weeks through TGT, student-athlete enjoyment and basic techniques increased significantly, but the experimental group had a much larger mean value. Thus, it can be concluded that TGT was an effective method for physical education teacher to create enjoyment and improve basic techniques in handball. Future research needs to be carried out such as testing the effects of TGT using mixed methods research.

Abstract

A limited literature on mixed method research to reveal the effect of blended learning in physical education turn out to be a gap in this research. Therefore, our study aims to investigate the perceptions of teachers about the effects, effectiveness, and challenges of blended learning in physical education classes through mixed-methods research. This study adopted a mixed-methods type with a mixed methods research. There were 12 participants involved in this study, which included elementary school teachers (n=4) and high school teachers (n=4) from Indonesia and elementary school teachers (n=2) and high school teachers (n=2) from Malaysia. The qualitative instrument included in-depth interviews. While, the quantitative instrument used a questionnaire. The qualitative study used statistical analysis with qualitative thematic methods. Meanwhile, in the quantitative study, all responses from 12 analyses were to find the frequency and percentage values of each response. Based on the results of the qualitative study, the majority of teachers perceived that blended learning in physical education classes had a significant effect on the development of students' domains and it was effective to implement physical education learning in elementary schools and high schools. While, results of quantitative study show that the biggest challenges due to the implementation of blended learning in physical education were the lack of technological facilities (86.2%), lack of understanding of teachers and students (72.7%), poor internet connection (64.8%), and limited learning duration in offline classes (50.0%). Therefore, the results of this study are essential and must be evaluated continuously, so that the physical education learning process through blended learning in a sustainable manner can have a positive effect on students at all levels of education in Indonesia and Malaysia or other countries in the world.

Abstract

Background Problems: In recent decades, physical education teacher job satisfaction has become a topic of interest in academic literature. The important role of physical education teachers' job satisfaction in the quality of teaching and its potential to influence student achievement have attracted attention. Research Objectives: This study aims to comprehensively analyse the level of job satisfaction among physical education teachers through a systematic review of the existing literature. Methods: We selected articles containing information on this topic from two databases (Scopus and Web of Science). We conducted the search according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. After the exclusion criteria, only 26 articles were categorized, all published between 2014 and 2023. Findings/Results: This research reveals that physical education teachers’ job satisfaction has been investigated in 13 countries, with Turkey, the United States, and Greece being the main focus. Although the majority of physical education teachers expressed high levels of satisfaction, significant differences in satisfaction levels emerged between them. For example, in Slovakia and Poland, satisfaction levels were relatively low. The findings underline that administrative support, work-life balance, and economic considerations are key factors that influence physical education teachers’ job satisfaction. However, in this context, money and rewards, working conditions, and the availability of resources also play an important role in determining teacher satisfaction. Conclusion: The findings from this study highlight the need for a deeper understanding of the diverse factors impacting job satisfaction among physical education instructors. We can develop more effective policies and practices to improve teachers’ well-being and performance at both local and global levels by understanding these nuances. We suggest further investigations into job satisfaction among physical education teachers in the Asian region, particularly focusing on Southeast Asia. Additionally, exploring variables such as leadership, self-efficacy, school climate, and culture in future research can offer deeper insights into the determinants of job satisfaction.

Abstract

Background: Notably, there is a scarcity of papers that focus on deepening the relationship between fear of missing out (FoMO) and school engagement for undergraduate students, most especially in a university setting in Indonesia and the Philippines. Research Objectives: In this regard, this study aims to deepen the relationship between the FoMO and school engagement. Methods: In this research, a correlational method was adopted. The respondents for the study were undergraduate students currently taking the Bachelor of Physical Education degree at the College of Teacher Training and Education Pasundan (Indonesia) and the University in Region III (Philippines). Instrument FoMO used the Fear of Missing Out scale (FoMOS), and the involvement used UWES-9. Pearson-R analysis was used to analyse the relationship between FoMO and school engagement. Finding/Results: After obtaining data from 100 teacher education students taking the degree in Bachelor of Physical Education, it was observed that there is no significant relationship between overall FoMO and school engagement (r(98) = .190, p = .059). Additionally, no significant relationship was found between the FoMO-Private Factor (r(98) = .145, p = .147), the FoMO-Social Factor (r(98) = .173, p = .085), and school engagement. Conclusion: Thus, we confirm that students' engagement in their studies is not significantly influenced by FoMO. This research contributes information to teachers and students regarding the relationship between FoMO and school engagement in physical education.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Strategic cognition is seen as a legitimate field for theory building and empirical research in strategic management. Ethical limitations, limited rationality and the absorptive capacity of a leader can influence organizational strategy. The aim of this research is to identify the influence of bounded ethics, bounded rationality and leader absorptive capacity on cognitive strategies in designing organizations. The review analysis used 10 articles that were considered relevant. The results of the analysis show that the success of cognitive strategies is not only based on intelligence or learning absorption capacity, but also on a strong ethical foundation and the ability to make decisions rationally. Effective cognitive strategies require organizations that are able to learn from experience, adopt innovations, and adapt to environmental changes. With ethical limitations, limited rationality and poor absorption capacity will result in poor cognitive strategies which can result in poor organizational structure. Keywords: cognitive strategy, ethical limitations, limited rationality, absorptive capacity, organizational design

Abstract

Psychological factors are important factors in sports achievement. Psychological training programs in sports have been used in various fields to improve skills. This study uses survey with a test and measurement approach, a type of quantitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were 8 rock climbing athletes. The instruments used were concentration, anxiety, and confidence. The results of the analysis obtained from the calculation of the psychological profile of the NTB rock climbing athletes are concentration with an average of 10.87, anxiety with an average of 19.50, motivation with an average of 115.87, and confidence with an average of 120.50. The weakest psychological indicator was concentration, while anxiety and self-confidence were average indicators. On the other hand, motivation was a strong point and was categorised as good. There were several limitations to consider in this study. First, this study focused on four psychological factors, namely concentration, anxiety, motivation, and self-confidence, while potentially neglecting other significant aspects of the psychological profile of the athlete. Second, there were only nine participants in the sample, limiting the generalizability of the results. Future research should surmount these limitations by incorporating a broader range of psychological factors and increasing the sample size to produce more exhaustive and representative results. The findings of this study highlight the significance of continuous mental training to enhance the performance of rock climbers. In addition, this study provides practitioners and researchers with a valuable resource for addressing issues related to an athlete's psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the epistemology of values in character education, particularly mutual cooperation and religiosity, among elementary madrasah students through the implementation of Givmituplis. Givmituplis is a learning method that integrates giving, asking, and expressing gratitude to instill character values. Through a qualitative case study, this research analyzes how the values of mutual cooperation and religiosity are formed and developed in the context of Givmituplis implementation. The results show that the Givmituplis practice has significant potential in shaping the character of mutual cooperation and religiosity among students. Through activities such as sharing, asking for help, and expressing gratitude, students learn to appreciate others, cooperate, and realize the importance of gratitude. These values are internalized within students and are reflected in their daily behaviors, both in school and at home. The epistemology of values in character education in this study indicates that the values of mutual cooperation and religiosity are formed through a complex internalization process. Students do not merely passively accept these values, but also actively construct their understanding and meaning of these values. This internalization process is influenced by various factors, such as social interaction with peers and teachers, as well as students' personal experiences in applying these values.

Abstract

Background: At present, the process of physical education learning has incorporated the use of video-based interactive media, with the aim of optimising the achievement of learning outcomes. However, to the best of our knowledge, there remains a notable gap in research that explores the application of video-based interactive media in enhancing critical thinking and fostering greater interest in learning among students, particularly through mixed-method research. Research Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the impact of video-based interactive media on the development of critical thinking skills and the enhancement of students’ interest in learning physical education in junior high schools within Surabaya City. Methods: This study utilised a mixed-methods approach, with a research sample comprising 33 eighth-grade students who were divided into two groups: an experimental group (n = 17) using media-based learning and a control group (n = 16) employing traditional teaching methods. The research instruments included a critical thinking questionnaire, an interest in learning survey, and in-depth interviews to gather qualitative data. Finding/Results: Statistical analysis showed a significant increase in students’ critical thinking skills in the experimental group; the average post-test score increased to 59.1 (p < 0.05), while the control group showed 55.0. Thus, students’ interest in learning increased to 95.6 (p < 0.05), while the control group increased to 98.1. Qualitative findings showed that students using video-based interactive media expressed greater interest and demonstrated increased critical thinking due to the interactive and flexible nature of visual presentations. However, challenges related to technology access, such as reliance on internet connectivity and network stability, were identified as limiting factors. Conclusion: Our research confirms that involving video-based interactive media learning is an effective way to change critical thinking skills and interest in learning among students. This study contributes important information for teachers so that they can use video-based interactive media learning programs continuously in the future.
