Abstract

Vibrio sp. is a group of pathogenic bacteria commonly found in shrimp culture ponds. These bacteria could infect and cause mass mortality in cultured vaname shrimp. The purpose of this study was to estimate the abundance dynamics of Vibrio sp. in culture ponds of vaname shrimp (L. vannamei) based on dynamic modeling analysis. The measurement was conducted on five vaname shrimp ponds, each sized 2,000 m2 starting from the beginning until 30 days of rearing. The measured parameters were the abundance of Vibrio sp., total bacterial and water quality parameters. The data were analyzed using Stella ver.12 software. The observation revealed that the abundance of Vibrio sp. and total bacterial count in the ponds were 6.1 x 101 CFU/mL and 1.421 x 103 CFU/mL, respectively. The variations of water quality parameters were considered good with the average pH value of 8.0 ± 0.12, salinity of 27 ± 0.15 ppt, dissolved oxygen of 5.85 ± 1.17 mg/L, temperature of 28.79 ± 0.25°C, TAN of 1 ± 3.35mg/L, and organic matter of 104.28 ± 5.43 mg/L. As expected, Vibrio sp. fluctuations were diametrically opposed to the total bacterial abundance. Based on the performed dynamic modeling, the Vibrio sp. abundance occurs dynamically with the highest abundance of 4 x 103 CFU/mL following the influence of metabolic activity and the level of adaptation to environmental conditions. Based on the causal loop model, waste, and nutrient factors are considered factors that affect the metabolic rate and abundance of bacteria in the waters. Therefore, this study reconfirms that the abundance of Vibrio sp. in vaname shrimp (L. vannamei) culture ponds is strongly influenced by the dynamic fluctuation patterns of the biological metabolic rate of bacteria itself and environmental conditions, which allows the infection level of these bacteria to become more opportunistic as the length of shrimp culture period increases.

Abstract

The aquaculture carrying capacity is the optimum capacity of the environment to accommodate the waste load that exists in the aquaculture ecosystem. The purpose of this research was to determine by the relationship and influence of the environmental carrying capacity of aquaculture ecosystems on the growth rate of vannamei shrimp (L. vannamei) based on dynamic modelling analysis. The research study method used in this study was an ex-pose facto causal design with the observed research indicators being water quality parameters and shrimp biological parameters. The results showed that during shrimp culture periods, the water quality indicators were still in accordance with the water quality standard values for aquaculture activities, except for the organic matter parameter which had a concentration of 93.48 mg/L (±17.02). Meanwhile, the shrimp growth rate continues to increase in an aggregate manner at an additional rate of 0.16 g/day. Shrimp growth rate has an opposite relationship with the percentage of feed rate described by the equation Y=0.180-0.001x. Then in another analysis it was stated that the shrimp growth rate in ponds was closely related to the environment carrying capacity of 71.5%. From the study results it can be concluded that there is a strong and mutually influencing relationship between with shrimp growth rate and the pond environment carrying capacity, which is described by the fluctuation pattern of the dynamic model that runs in rhythm.

Abstract

In intensive shrimp culture, oxygen consumption of shrimp is an important indicator that greatly affects the physiological condition of shrimp as a reared organism. The purpose of this study was to dynamically determine the oxygen consumption of shrimp in intensive culture as well as the variables of water quality and shrimp growth. This research was conducted with the concept of ex-post facto causal design in intensive aquaculture ponds during the shrimp cultivation period. During the shrimp culture period, the rate of oxygen consumption of shrimp is inversely related with the  sigmodial average increase in shrimp body weight. Meanwhile, based on the simulation analysis with the dynamic modeling concept, it is shown that oxygen consumption was linear to the dynamics of  average daily gain and inversely proportional with the increasing rate of shrimp biomass in the ponds. In addition, oxygen consumption rate of shrimp in intensive ponds had a close relationship with water salinity and total organic matter. In conclusion, dynamically, the fluctuation of oxygen consumption rate and average daily gain of shrimp in intensive culture are closely related to the stability of the water quality conditions on the shrimp habitat.
