Abstract

Malabot Tumpe is local wisdom which has the meaning of realizing the 15th SDG goal in the conservation of maleo birds. Concepts such as ecosystem balance and biodiversity, which are reflected in Malabot Tumpe traditional practices, indicate the potential for Malabot Tumpe in integrating biology learning material, especially biodiversity material. The integration of values or knowledge from local wisdom containing ESD can be integrated into biology learning through e-modules. However, so far, there has been no research that specifically discusses the integration of Malabot Tumpe local wisdom, which contains sustainable conservation values, into biology learning. For this reason, the author aims to reveal the potential of e-modules containing Malabot Tumpe local wisdom as a form of implementing ESD in extracurricular biology learning activities in schools. The method used was a systematic literature review with a sample of 12 international and national articles. The result of this study is that there is potential for an E-module containing Malabot Tumpe local wisdom to not only help students achieve learning goals but also help sustainably preserve biodiversity. However, further research is needed to empirically measure the effectiveness of the Malabot Tumpe ethnobiology e-module and its impact on ESD to achieve sustainable biodiversity.

Abstract

The rapid changes in science, technology, and global challenges require students to develop future thinking skills to anticipate and adapt to uncertainties. However, many secondary education curricula do not explicitly emphasize these skills, leading to a gap in students' ability to plan, predict, and engage in future-oriented decision-making. This study aims to review the literature on effective strategies in improving future thinking skills in secondary education. The research method used is systematic literature review which involves the analysis of various studies from the scopus and web of science databases. The research sample consisted of 213 articles that were filtered to 28 relevant articles. Data analysis was carried out by identifying and categorizing teaching strategies found in the literature and evaluating the effectiveness, obstacles, and role of teachers and the curriculum in their implementation. The findings of the study show that strategies such as future episodic thinking, the use of information and communication technology, and positive foresight are effective in developing students' future thinking skills. The main obstacles identified included limited technological resources, lack of understanding and support from teachers and school administration, and cultural and social challenges. The discussion suggests that the integration of future thinking skills in the curriculum, the use of interdisciplinary approaches, and adequate teacher training can overcome these barriers. This research provides recommendations to improve the implementation of teaching strategies that can prepare students for a future full of challenges and uncertainties

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the level of plant blindness in three schools in West Java. This study was also conducted with the aim of looking at the differences in the level of plant blindness as well as the relationship between the tests and questionnaires given to students. As a follow-up, this study discusses alternative solutions to the problems that arise in the three schools. The population of this study was three schools in West Java, namely one school in Bandung City, West Bandung Regency, and Indramayu Regency. From the population, one class was taken using Convenience sampling technique. The research method used was descriptive cross-sectional method. The data that has been obtained is then processed using descriptive and inferential statistics to see the differences and relationships. The results showed a significant difference between the three schools. The results also showed a positive relationship between the test results and the plant awareness questionnaire. This shows that students who have high plant awareness have high knowledge as well. The alternative solution proposed in this study is the use of eDNA Metabarcoding research as a practicum to study biodiversity, considering that eDNA can identify plant species specifically and accurately.

Abstract

Data literacy is an essential aspect in science and education, yet its integration in biology education remains underexplored. Competence in data literacy is essential for biology education students to conduct learning evaluation analyses that increase student learning performance. Grounded in Bandura’s social cognitive theory, this study investigates biology education undergraduates’ self-efficacy in data literacy during a statistics course. A convenience sample of 70 students completed a questionnaire assessing confidence (7 items), experience (4 items), and attitude (4 items) of data on a 5-point Likert scale. Additionally, students completed a data interpretation test (with biology-based data scenarios), rated their confidence on a 4-point Likert scale, and provided reasoning. Result revealed high levels of self-efficacy across all domains, consistent confidence during data interpretation tasks, and positive attitudes towards learning with data. The study contributes conceptually by linking perceived confidence and performance-based evidence of data literacy, highlighting implications for improving quantitative reasoning in biology education
