Abstract

Abstrak: Mengajarkan Memahami Bacaan pada Teks Recount dengan Menggunakan Heading into Questions. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektifitas dari Heading into Questions di dalam mengajarkan cara memahami bacaan pada teks recount. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode quasi- eksperimen. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII D (kelas eksperimen) dan kelas VIII E (kelas kontol). Kedua kelas diberikan pretes dan postes yang sama, tetapi mereka diterapkan perlakuan yang berbeda. Kelas eksperimen diterapkan pengajaran menggunakan Heading into Questions, sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan tekhnik konvensional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai yang dicapai di kelas eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelas kontrol. Kata Kunci: Pengajaran membaca, Tehnik Heading into Questions Abstract: Teaching Reading Comprehension on Recount Text Through Heading into Questions. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of the teaching reading comprehension on recount text through Heading into Questions. This research was conducted as a quasi-experimental research. The research subjects were class VIII D (experimental class) and VIII E (control class). Both classes were given the same pretest and posttest, but they were given different treatments. Experimental class was given Heading into Questions and control class was given conventional treatment. The research findings showed that the achievement in experimental class was better than that of control class. Key word: Teaching reading, Heading into Questions

Abstract

AbstractThis research purpose is to investigate the effect size of teaching speaking narrative monologue by using shrinking story strategy at the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 06 Pontianak. The method that is used in this research is pre-experimental method that applies pre-test and post-test to measure the effect size (ES) of the treatment. The instrument of this research are pre-test and post-test. Both pre-test and pre-test measure students’ speaking narrative monologue performance. The pre-test was applied before the treatment was given. Meanwhile the post-test was applied after the treatment given. The different score of pre-test and post-test are respectively 2.10 and 2.87. The result shows that the effect size of teaching speaking narrative monologue by using shrinking story strategy is high because the Effect Size (ES) is > 0.5. The shrinking story strategy is higly effective to teach speaking narrative monologue to the eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 06 Pontianak. This research result can be applied to teach speaking narrative monologue concerns to standard competence 4. Basic competence of KTSP point 4.2. Expressing meaning in simple monologue speaking with spoken language accurately in daily context in form of recount, narrative and procedure. Keyword: Pre-Experimental, Speaking, Teaching, Shrinking Story

Abstract

Abstract: This research focused on teaching descriptive text writing through photograph as a media and guided question as a technique. Based on the writer’s interview to the English teacher of tenth grade students in SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak, most of students had difficulties in writing descriptive text. The form of this research is pre-experimental study. The data had been collected by using measurement technique. The tool of data collecting was written test. The sample of this research was 30 students from Class XF. The result of this research showed that the use of photograph as a media and guided question as a technique in teaching descriptive text writing improved students’ writing ability. Students’ pre-test mean score is 54.66 and students’ post-test mean score is 76.66. Meanwhile, the effect of treatment (ES) was 1.95. Based on the result (ES > 0, 8), it was categorized as highly effective. In conclusion, the use of photograph as a media guided questions as a technique in teaching descriptive text writing to the tenth grade students of SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak in academic year 2011/2012 is highly effective.   Keywords: descriptive text writing, photograph, guided question   Abstrak: Penelitian ini terfokus kepada pengajaran menulis teks deskriptif dengan foto sebagai media dan pertanyaan panduan sebagai teknik. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara penulis dengan guru Bahasa Inggris kelas 10 di SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak, kebanyakan siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Format penelitian ini adalah Pre-Eksperimental. Data dikumpulkan melalui teknik pengukuran. Alat pengumpulan data adalah tes tertulis. Sampel penelitian adalah 30 orang siswa kelas XF. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penggunaan foto sebagai media dan pertanyaan panduan sebagai teknik dalam pengajaran menulis teks deskriptif meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Nilai rata-rata pre-test siswa adalah 54.66 dan nilai rata-rata post-test siswa adalah 76.66. sementara itu, efek dari treatment adalah 1.95. Berdasarkan hasil (ES > 0, 8), dapat dikategorikan sangat efektif. Kesimpulannya, penggunaan foto sebagai media dan pertanyaan panduan sebagai teknik mengajar menulis teks deskriptif untuk siswa kelas 10 SMA Panca Bhakti Pontianak tahun ajaran 2011/2012 sangat efektif   Kata Kunci: menulis teks deskriptif, foto, pertanyaan panduan

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan permasalahan yang ditemukan selama proses belajar mengajar di kelas IX A SMP Negeri 3 Mukok, khususnya tentang pemahaman siswa terhadap isi teks. Permasalahan yang ditemukan adalah siswa tidak dapat menemukan pikiran utama dalam setiap paragraph sehingga pada akhirnya siswa juga tidak bisa membuat kesimpulan dari seluruh isi bacaan. Pada penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan WH-Questions untuk membimbing siswa meningkatkan pemahaman terhadap isi bacaan. Model penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 24 orang siswa kelas IX A SMP Negeri 3 Mukok Tahun Pelajaran 2012-2013. Data diperoleh dari hasil evaluasi setelah selesai melaksanakan siklus 1 dan siklus 2, observasi juga dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui motivasi siswa dalam mengikuti proses belajar mengajar khususnya dalam pemahaman bacaan melalui WH-Questions. Nilai rata-rata perolehan siswa menunjukan adanya peningkatan dari 57,50 menjadi 73,75 dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengajaran teks bacaan menggunakan WH-Questions dapat meningkatkan pemahaman siswa terhadap isi bacaan. Kata kunci: Teknik mengajar, Penelitian tindakan kelas, Pemahaman bacaan. ABSTRACT This research was conducted based on the problems which were found in the process of teaching-learning reading comprehension on narrative text by the ninth grade class A students of SMP Negeri 3 Mukok. The problems were that they were could not find main ideas of a paragraph and made summary of an entire text. The research was guided by a conceptual framework leading to the using WH-questions to improve their comprehension on narrative text. The research type was an Action Research. The subject consisted of 24 Students of the Ninth Grade Class A of SMPN 3 Mukok in Academic Year 2012-2013. The research data were collected using test (test after first treatment and test after the second treatment), observation for collecting data on students motivation in comprehending the reading text especially in reading comprehension on narrative text through WH-Question. The data of this research were taken from the students score in two cycles and they were collected by using students worksheet, observation checklist table, and field note. The mean score increased from 57.50 to 73.75. It concluded that teaching narrative text through WH-Questions could improve students reading comprehension. Abstract

Abstract: This research investigates the significance and effectiveness of teaching narrative text inference by using DRTA strategy. It is a pre experimental design with one group pre-test post-test design. The subject is Grade XI IPA 1, numbering thirty four students. The data were collected by giving 30 multiple choice items to the 34 students. The data were analyzed by t-test and effect size formula. The results indicate that teaching by using DRTA strategy increases students ability of narrative text-based inference-making significantly. Its effectiveness is high. Key words: Inference, DRTA Strategy, Narrative Abstrak: Penelitian ini menyelidiki mengenai signifikansi dan efektifitas dari pengajaran makna tersirat pada teks naratif dengan menggunakan strategi DRTA. Ini adalah sebuah disain dari pre experimental dengan disain 1 grup pre-test dan post-test. Peserta dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas XI IPA 1 yang berjumlah 34 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan memberikan 30 soal dalam bentuk pilihan ganda ke 34 orang siswa. Data dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus t-test dan tingkat efektifitas. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa mengajar dengan menggunakan strategi DRTA meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami makna tersirat pada teks naratif secara signifikan. Abstract

Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan dari KWL strategi dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif untuk kelas 7A SMP Mujahidin Pontianak pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Pada umumnya siswa mengalami kesulitan menemukan ide, informasi-informasi dan penafsiran kata pada teks deskriptif. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, peneliti menggunakan KWL strategi dalam pengajaran membaca pada teks deskriptif. Peneliti menggunakan metode pra eksperimen dalam penelitian ini. Ada dua variabel yang terdapat pada penelitian ini, variabel terikat adalah kemampuan siswa dalam membaca teks descriptive. Sementara variabel bebas pada penelitian ini adalah pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif melalui KWL strategi. Hasil yang di dapat melalui analisa tes, rata-rata untuk ujian awal 58.5. Sedangkan rat-rata untuk ujian akhir 80.5. Melalui perhitungan statistik, maka nilai yang di dapat untuk ukuran efektifitas adalah 2.39, ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil efektifitas pada penilitian ini pada posisi tinggi. Kemudian, hipotesis pada penelitian diterima. Kata Kunci: KWL, membaca, teks deskripstif Abstract: The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of KWL strategy in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text to the 7A grade students of SMP Swasta Mujahidin Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013. The students in this class found difficulties to identify the main idea, detail information, and word interpretation, especially in descriptive text. To solve the students problem the researcher used the KWL strategy in teaching reading. The method of this research used is a pre experimental research. Concerning this research, there two variables, dependent variable (students reading comprehension skill of descriptive text) and independent variable (reading comprehension skill of descriptive text using KWL strategy). The result of data analysis showed that the KWL strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension. The calculation the mean score of pre test is 58.5. The mean score of post test is 80.5. The effect size of the use KWL strategy is 2.39, which is categorized as highly effective (highly criteria). Teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text through KWL technique for 7A grade students of SMP Swasta Mujahidin Pontianak in academic year 2012/2013 has been proved effective. Abstract

Abstract : This reasearch focus on the use video conversation in teaching speaking at seventh grade students in SMP Negeri 6 Pontianak in academic years 2014/2015. This research raise because the researcher interested to described how a English teacher teaching by using video conversation. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research with direct and indirect data as teachnique of data collecting. The reseacher conducted interview, participant observation and documentation as tool of data collecting. The research results show that it was more efective using video conversation in teaching speaking at SMP Negeri 6 Pontianak. The students were  easier to understand what the teacher teach and explain. The students more interest and active in the class. The teacher provided materials based on texts, such as textbooks and LKS (Lembar Kerja Siswa) and the teacher searching the videos appropiate with the material in internet. In addition, the teacher provided  the  students with assessment  that emphasizes  the measurement of learning outcomes in the form of students’ competencies to do something.   Keywords : Video conversation, Teaching speaking   Abstrak : Penelitian ini fokus pada penggunaan vidio percakapan didalam mengajar berbicara pada siswa SMP Negeri 6 pontianak kelas 7 tahun akademik 2014/2015. Penelitian ini diangkat karena peneliti tertarik untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana seorang guru Bahasa Inggris mengajar menggunakan vidio percakapan. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian diskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik langsung dan tidak langsung sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Peneliti melakukan wawancara, observasi peserta dan dokumentasi sebagai alat pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lebih efektif menggunakan vidio percakapan dalam mengajar berbicara di SMP Negeri 6 Pontianak. Siswa lebih mudah untuk mengerti apa yang guru ajarkan dan jelaskan. Siswa lebih tertarik dan aktif di dalam kelas. Guru menyediakan materi berdasarkan teks seperti buku-buku dan LKS (Lembar Kerja Siswa) dan guru mencari vidio yang sesuai dengan materi di internet. Sebagai tambahan, guru menyediakan penilaian siswa untuk mengukur hasil pembelajaran dalam bentuk kemampuan siswa melakukan sesuatu.   Kata Kunci : Vidio percakapan, Mengajar berbicara

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini difokuskan pada pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks analitikal ekposisi kedalam strategi skema aktif. Ini adalah sebuah disain dari pre experimental dengan disain 1 grup pre- test dan post-test. Peserta dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas XI IPA 1 dari tingkat sebelas siswa dari SMA Negeri 1 Sekadau Hulu pada tahun akademik 2012/2013, yang berjumlah 29 siswa. Data penelitian dikumpulkan dengan memberikan 30 soal dalam bentuk pilihan ganda ke 29 orang siswa. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan rumus t-test dan tingkat efektifitas. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa mengajar pemahaman membaca kedalam strategi skema aktif meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam memahami teks analitikal ekposisi. Efektifitas penggunaan strategi tersebut adalah efektif. Kata kunci : Membaca, SAS, Teks Analitikal Ekposisi. It is a pre experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design. The subject is Grade XI IPA 1 of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sekadau in academic year 2012/2013, numbering twenty nine students. The data were collected by giving 30 multiple choice items to the 29 students. The data were analyzed by t-test and effect size formula. The result indicate that teaching reading comprehension through Schema Activation Strategy increases students ability on anaytical exposition text. Its effectiveness is high. Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted to find out whether or not the use of Picture Strip Story posted in Instagram increases students’ writing ability in descriptive text, especially about a person with Pre-Experimental Research design as the method. By clustering random sampling, it was XI AKL 3 class at SMK Negeri 1 Pontianak,  with 25 students selected as the sample of the research. Based on the findings, it was found that the t-test score was 8.214. It was higher than the t-table, which was 2.064 at the degree of freedom (df) N-1 (25-1=24) = 0.05. The result of the effect size was 1.64, where the category was a strong effect. It was revealed that the Null Hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. This means that Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) which is the use of  Picture Strip Story posted in Instagram increases the students’ writing ability in descriptive text was accepted. Therefore, this technique is recommended to be used in teaching writing descriptive text about a person, but also other topics such as animal and place.  Keywords: Writing, Picture Strip Story, Descriptive Text, Instagram, Pre-Experimental Research

Abstract

Abstract    This research was conducted based on the observation of reading comprehension to the Year-8 students of MTs. Darul Ulum Kubu Raya in Academic Year 2016/2017. The purposes of the research are to investigate the significance of teaching reading comprehension in narrative text by using story map and to investigate the effectiveness of teaching reading comprehension in narrative text by using story map.It was pre experimental research. It involved pre-test, treatment, and post-test. There were 26 students in this research. The data were quantitative participating.This research found that the treatment improved the students’ ability in comprehending a narrative text reading. The mean score of pre-test was 57,88 and the mean score of post-test was 70,53. The improvement is significant statistically. It can be seen from value that was lower than the t-table -2,093 > -8,72. The effect size of using story map to the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text is 0,73 (Moderate).    Key Words: Effectiveness, Narrative, Story Map
