Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is increasingly conceptualized as a complex psychoneuroendocrine disorder. While acute physiological stress typically induces hypercortisolemia, chronic diabetes distress may lead to allostatic overload and Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis blunting. The compensatory role of oxytocin, a stress-buffering neuropeptide, remains underexplored in this specific clinical phenotype. This study aimed to characterize the neuroendocrine phenotype of patients with uncontrolled T2DM and severe distress, specifically investigating the synchronization between serum cortisol and oxytocin as a marker of homeostatic regulation. In this analytic cross-sectional study, 86 patients with uncontrolled T2DM (HbA1c greater than or equal to 7.0%) and severe diabetes distress (Diabetes Distress Scale-17 mean score greater than or equal to 3.0) were recruited via purposive sampling. Strict exclusion criteria were applied for exogenous steroid use and renal failure to ensure biological validity. Fasting morning serum cortisol and oxytocin were analyzed using Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assays (ELISA). Statistical analysis utilized Spearman’s rank correlation and multivariate linear regression, controlling for Body Mass Index and age. The cohort exhibited severe metabolic dysregulation (Mean HbA1c: 10.03 ± 2.10%) and psychological distress (Mean DDS: 4.65 ± 0.35). Paradoxically, mean morning cortisol was low-normal (170.32 ± 135.43 nmol/L), suggestive of HPA axis blunting rather than the expected hypercortisolemia. A robust positive correlation was observed between cortisol and oxytocin (r = 0.555, p < 0.001). Multivariate regression confirmed cortisol as a significant independent predictor of oxytocin levels (b = 0.521, p < 0.001), independent of metabolic confounders. In conclusion, patients with severe diabetes distress display a distinct phenotype of HPA axis exhaustion coupled with synchronized oxytocinergic activity. This suggests a preserved reactive mobilization mechanism where oxytocin is upregulated in tandem with adrenal output to buffer chronic allostatic load. These findings highlight the potential of the oxytocinergic system as a therapeutic target in diabetes burnout.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the legal sanctions imposed on businesses that fail to pay employee wages in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations and to assess the effectiveness of their enforcement. Wages are a basic right of every worker, guaranteed by Law Number 13 of 2003 concerning Manpower, as amended by Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation into Law. Employers' obligation to pay wages in accordance with applicable regulations embodies the principles of justice, humanity, and legal certainty in industrial relations. The research method used is normative juridical, with a statutory and conceptual approach. The data used are sourced from primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials, analyzed qualitatively. The results indicate that businesses that fail to pay employee wages in accordance with regulations may be subject to administrative sanctions, such as written warnings, restrictions on business activities, temporary suspension, and even revocation of business licenses. Furthermore, there are criminal sanctions as stipulated in Article 185 of the Manpower Law, which carry a maximum imprisonment of four years and/or a maximum fine of four hundred million rupiah. However, in practice, enforcement of these legal sanctions remains suboptimal due to weak labor oversight and low legal awareness among business actors. This study concludes that increased effectiveness of labor oversight and stricter law enforcement are needed to ensure the protection of workers' rights to decent wages in accordance with the principles of social justice in Indonesia.

Abstract

Corruption remains a persistent institutional problem that potentially constrains economic performance, particularly in developing regions such as Southeast Asia. This study examines the effect of corruption on economic growth in four ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia—during the period 2012–2022. Using panel data regression analysis, this research incorporates corruption perception, human development, and constitutional quality as key explanatory variables influencing economic growth, measured by real GDP per capita. The Fixed Effect Model (FEM) is employed based on the results of the Chow and Hausman tests, indicating its suitability for capturing country-specific characteristics. The empirical findings reveal that corruption exerts a negative but statistically insignificant effect on economic growth, suggesting that its impact operates indirectly through inefficiencies in resource allocation and production processes. Meanwhile, the Human Development Index demonstrates a positive and statistically significant effect on economic growth, highlighting the crucial role of human capital investment in fostering sustainable economic performance. Constitutional quality shows a positive but insignificant relationship with economic growth, implying that institutional improvements alone may not be sufficient without effective enforcement and governance mechanisms. Overall, the results emphasize that enhancing human development remains the most effective strategy for accelerating economic growth in countries with relatively high levels of perceived corruption. These findings provide important policy implications for ASEAN governments in prioritizing human capital development alongside institutional reforms to achieve long-term economic growth.

Abstract

Bird’s eye chili (Capsicum frutescens) is an agricultural commodity with several advantages, including tolerance to climate variability, relatively high resistance to pests and plant diseases, and high productivity. Nevertheless, this crop requires growing media rich in nutrients, one of which can be provided through the use of enriched organic waste compost. Enriched organic waste compost is produced through the decomposition of plant and animal residues with the assistance of decomposer organisms, including both microorganisms and macroorganisms. This community service activity aimed to enhance the skills of members of the PKK women’s group of RT 20, Pakuan Baru Subdistrict, Jambi City, in cultivating bird’s eye chili to achieve healthy growth and high fruit yield. The outreach activities were conducted in two stages, namely the delivery of educational materials and hands-on practice. Following the implementation of the training, an improvement in participants’ knowledge was observed, and they were able to apply enriched organic waste compost in their cultivation practices.

Abstract

Bougainvillea, commonly known as paper flower, is widely used to enhance environmental aesthetics due to its bright and attractive flowers. In addition to its ornamental value, this plant also provides benefits for health and the environment. Proper cultivation of bougainvillea is essential to achieve healthy growth and abundant flowering. One of the key factors for successful plant growth is the use of appropriate growing media with a loose structure, good drainage, and sufficient essential nutrients. Compost fertilizer is an organic fertilizer produced through the controlled decomposition of organic materials by microorganisms, which is beneficial for improving soil structure and nutrient availability. In addition to compost, the application of biochar to the growing media significantly contributes as a soil amendment by improving both chemical and physical soil properties, while also enhancing the soil’s water-holding capacity. Through this community service activity, members of the PKK women’s group of RT 23, Pasir Putih Subdistrict, Jambi City, were provided with educational materials and hands-on demonstrations on the proper use of compost and biochar in bougainvillea cultivation. The activities resulted in increased knowledge and practical skills among the participants and are expected to provide long-term social and environmental benefits. Strengthening skills in ornamental plant cultivation through the use of appropriate and high-quality organic inputs is also important in supporting household-based productive activities within the community.Bottom of Form

Abstract

Childbirth support is a crucial aspect in maintaining the physical and psychological well-being of pregnant women. One form of support that is becoming increasingly recognized is the presence of a Doula, a non-medical companion who provides emotional, informational, and physical support throughout pregnancy and delivery. This study aims to examine the meaning of Doula support for pregnant women from a psychological perspective. The method used was a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The selection of informants in this study focused on pregnant women who had actually experienced or were directly involved in the phenomenon of Doula support, with purposive selection based on their relevance and experience. The review results indicate that the presence of a Doula can minimize anxiety, increase self-confidence, and help pregnant women feel calmer and more empowered in facing the labor process. Furthermore, Doula support contributes to strengthening the emotional bond between mother and fetus, and fosters a more positive birth experience. From a psychological perspective, Doula support is meaningful as a form of support system that provides a sense of security, connectedness, and mental empowerment for pregnant women. Thus, Doula support has been shown to facilitate more adaptive coping strategies and strengthen mothers' self-confidence in undergoing childbirth and emphasizes the importance of considering the presence of Doulas as part of maternal services, both through public education and the integration of non-medical support into the health care system, to improve the quality of the childbirth experience while preventing maternal psychological problems.

Abstract

The digital era has transformed lifestyles, with people increasingly relying on electronic devices as tools for everyday life. Technology simplifies various activities by streamlining data and information processing. The growing demand for data has driven the development of new technologies to process information quickly. Technological advancements have improved transportation, access to information, education, and the convenience of online transactions, particularly through digital wallets or e-wallets. Digital financial services, including e-wallets, facilitate easy transactions using e-wallet funds. The primary reason for their use is the convenience of electronic wallets, which eliminate the need for cash and simplify transactions for both buyers and sellers. The case of i.Saku demonstrates its popularity, with over 5 million downloads on the Google Play Store since 2017. Google's digital platform, Google Play Store, includes user reviews as a valid source of information. Nearly 50% of internet users rely on recommendations from other users before using a product. Google Play Store reviews influence the decisions of potential users, but managing them manually is not easy. Sentiment analysis, or opinion mining, is the study of opinions, behaviors, and feelings of individuals towards an entity and is crucial for understanding user reviews. In the context of i.Saku, this research focuses on sentiment analysis of Google Play Store reviews using support vector machine techniques. The study outlines the stages from preprocessing to sentiment analysis, highlighting the complexity and benefits of technology-based sentiment analysis.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that affect the income of shallot farming in North Kolaka Regency. The independent variables studied included farmer experience (LN_X1), amount of fertilizer (LN_X2), land area (LN_X3), and labor (LN_X4), while dependent variables were shallot farming income (LN_Y). Cobb-Douglas production function methods and multiple linear regression were used to analyze the data with the help of SPSS 27. The results of the analysis showed that the four independent variables had a significant influence on farming's income simultaneously, with an F value of 658.017 and a significance of 0.000. The land area variable had the greatest partial influence, with a coefficient of 1.385 and a significance of 0.000, while the variables of labor and fertilizer had a positive influence, with significance of 0.014 and 0.038, respectively. However, the farmer's experience did not affect income (significance 0.374). A coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.989 indicates that the model can explain 98.9% of income variations. Other factors outside the model affect the rest of the variation. The results show that increasing the income of shallot farmers can be achieved through the efficient use of input, as well as the strategic role of land access and labor.
