Abstract

Social and family attention influences children development, including vulnerable children. The vulnerable children who lack of those attention will experience difficulties in adapting to environment, such as having low self-esteem, being ostracized, and being vulnerable to violate existing norms. Regarding the previous explanation, this study strived for examining the effectiveness of a group counseling service with solution focused brief therapy to reduce vulnerable children social anxiety. It used an experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design by involving 7 vulnerable children in SOS Children’s Village Semarang as the subjects. Findings indicated that the group counseling with solution focused brief therapy has been effective to reduce the social anxiety of the vulnerable children. Further, this treatment can be an alternative method for counselors or caregivers to reduce the vulnerable children social anxiety.

Abstract

Students’ tendency to violate discipline affects teaching and learning at school, such as procrastination of task completion or called as academic procrastination. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Islamic-based Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) group counseling to improve discipline and reduce students’ procrastination. It used pretest-posttest control group design and involved 20 subjects from SMP Al-Musyaffa Kendal. Based on the results of Wilcoxon and Man-Whitney analyses, the Islamic-based Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) group counseling could improve discipline and reduce procrastination. It infers that the Islamic-based Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) group counseling implemented through the reinforcement of morals, praying, and fasting is effective in increasing discipline and reducing procrastination.

Abstract

Most of toxic online disinhibition perpretrators see their behavior as a means of fulfilling basic needs related to fun and freedom. However, it is a negative thing since it contradicts the principles of right, responsibility, and reality. Regarding these issues, the present study strived for examining the effectiveness of reality group counseling with confrontation and being-positive techniques to reduce toxic online disinhibition behavior. It involved 18 students chosen using a purposive sampling technique and grouped into three randomly in which each consisted of six students. Their data were collected using a toxic online disinhibition scale. Based on the results of mixed ANOVA statistical test, there laid the effect of time towards the reduction of toxic online disinhibition, namely (F (1.10, 16.558) = 317.66, p<0.01). The group effect on the reduction of online toxic disinhibition was also significant (F(2, 15) = 3.96, p<0.05). In terms of time interaction, the effect result was (F (2.21, 16.558) = 21.48, p<0.01). Thus, the findings of this study have confirmed that the group with the mixed techniques gained the highest effectiveness among the other groups. Finally, the study also serves interesting implications and suggestions to consider in the practice of reality group counseling.

Abstract

Students’ discipline needs special attention in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic due to their online learning habit which somehow shifted the way they behaved during the pandemic. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of a group guidance service with a humanistic existential approach based on Islamic spiritual values to improve students’ discipline. 20 students were involved as the samples and grouped into two, namely 10 for the experimental group and 10 for the control group. Here, the design was pretest and posttest, while the data were analyzed using a Wilcoxon test. Findings have proved that students’ discipline improved after receiving the group guidance service with a humanistic existential approach based on Islamic spiritual values. Thus, counselors are suggested to implement this intervention to improve students’ discipline

Abstract

Ideal career decision-making is when a person realizes the need and has the readiness and capability to make decisions correctly. However, career decision-making may become an obstacle that hinders student development if not handled properly. This research was conducted to explore the role of career adaptability in mediating between social support and career decision-making. This study belongs to the ex-post facto type, which used the correlational research design. The respondents included 286 students from 5 private MA (Madrasah Aliyah, equal to high school). The findings proved that: 1) Social support affects career decision-making, 2) Social support on career adaptability, 3) Social support on career decision-making through career adaptability, and 4) career adaptability on career decision-making. The results of the study showed how career adaptability could mediate between social support and career selection.

Abstract

Difficulties in learning process can cause learning loss. Learning loss is defined as the inability to maximally conduct the learning process at school. This research attempted to prove the effects of self-confidence and social support on learning loss. It used a correlational design and involved 151 students of grade VIII. Findings showed that both self-confidence and social support influenced the decrease in learning loss. Thus, it is suggested to improve students’ self-confidence and social support to reduce the chance of learning loss.

Abstract

Both emotional and spiritual intelligence help individuals do self-control. This study aimed at proving the extent to which emotional and spiritual intelligence affect students’ self-control. This correlational study involved 329 students from 4 islamic junior high schools in Semarang City selected using a cluster sampling technique. Their data were analyzed using a hierarchical regression analysis. Findings have proved that both spiritual and emotional intelligence had significant effects on self-control. It can be implied that students need to be assisted in performing self-control for to achieve future success by reinforcing emotional and spiritual intelligence.

Abstract

In guidance and counseling services, instruments are heavily needed as a means of data collection and consideration prior to providing both preventive and curative services. However, the existing instruments in Indonesia are a way too general due to Indonesia various ethnicity and races. Thus, the present study attempted to produce a valid and reliable personality inventory for guidance and counseling teachers to measure senior high school students personality. It involved 175 students selected purposively from 4 public schools in Banjarmasin City in South Kalimantan with the age range of 15-19 years. Its validity was analyzed using a Pearson’s product moment test, while the reliability was measured using an alpha technique. Of these tests, there obtained the final inventory with the total of 44 items with 22 favorable items and 22 unfavorable items. It also got the range between 0.375 up to 0.726 with the alpha coefficient of 0.846 up to 0.899. Thus, this Banjar culture-based personality inventory can be implemented for the guidance and counseling services at school.

Abstract

A common obstacle in career planning is the lack of further study information. Therefore, the present study aimed at improving students’ career planning using an information service with android-based career card medium. To do so, it used a one-group pretest-pottest design. Further, the instrument used to collect the data was a career planning understanding scale. It was given to 30 grade eleven students selected from 427 students using a purposive random sampling technique. Findings showed an improvement of students’ career planning following the use of an information service with android-based career card medium. Moreover, schools can provide career information services for students since the very beginning of their school lives so that they can get some overviews of university lives.

Abstract

Low prosocial behavior is indicated by lacking care and harming others both physically and emotionally. Regarding this fact, the present study attempted to analyze the effect of emotional intelligence on students’ prosocial behavior through spiritual intelligence and parenting styles in SMP Muhammadiyah. To do so, a correlational quantitative approach was employed by involving 257 students of grade eight selected using a cluster random sampling technique. Their data were collected using the scales of emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence, adapted prosocial behavior, and parenting styles compiled by the researchers. Further, the collected data were analyzed using a mediation analysis through Hayes model 6. Results showed that spiritual intelligence could mediate the effect of emotional intelligence on students’ prosocial behavior, while the parenting styles could not mediate the effect of emotional intelligence on students’ prosocial behavior. Moreover, the implications and limitations of this study are presented in the discussion session.
