Abstract

Abstract

Poverty is often identified in developing countries. One measure of poverty is the ability to fulfill basic needs, particularly food needs. On the other hand, food needs are very sensitive to changes in inflation. The more fluctuating inflation will change the prices of necessities, which then exacerbate poverty conditions. Using time-series data for the period 2005-2016 and using the Ordinary Least Square method, this study examines the impact of changes in the prices of necessities on poverty levels in North Sumatra. The results showed that the increase in rice prices, sugar, cooking oil, beef, and salt had an impact on the poverty level in North Sumatra, while the increase in the price of eggs and kerosene was the opposite. The increase in rice prices significantly impacted all of the commodities studied than for other commodities, followed by salt, sugar, beef, and cooking oil. Changes in the ability to consume basic needs indicate a decrease in people's purchasing power. Further, this indicates that the change in consumption of these various commodities also means that the poverty rate tends to increase.

Abstract

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) is one of the attractive natural tourist destinations in Indonesia, especially in East Java. Besides having natural wealth and beautiful scenery, TNBTS not only offers tourism, but also a fertile agricultural sector. However, the development and management of the sector has not yet been optimized so that it has not had an equitable impact on improving the economy of citizens and the welfare of the community, especially in Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. Therefore, the purpose of this service is to empower the economy of the community in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. The findings show that there are 9 farmer groups in the Tosari sub-district that have developed superior products, namely potatoes. The problems experienced by farmer groups in the Tosari sub-district are subsidized fertilizers and the weather that often changes. Another problem faced by farmers in Tosari District is the purchase of harvested goods at low prices by middlemen. So, in this case, the government needs to play a role in supplying subsidized fertilizers and educating farmers regarding climate change. Farmers' groups can synergize with Karang Taruna groups to market and promote Tosari's specialty processed products. Farmers' groups can also synergize with academics in making Tosari's specialty products.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Poverty is a problem faced by almost all developing countries, there is no problem in Indonesia. South Kalimantan is one of the provinces in South Kalimantan with the third-smallest population; this problem is not a concern. The problem of the number of poor people in 13 districts/cities is the main problem faced by South Kalimantan. The poverty that occurs is the result of a large population, such as Banjarmasin with the largest population also has the highest number of poor people among other districts/cities in South Kalimantan. The sticky rice of residents in the capital city and surrounding cities has resulted in the inability of employment opportunities to absorb work as a whole, resulting in an effect that returns to Banjarmasin. This unemployment will work on the inability to earn income to meet the needs of life and face poverty. Policies related to leading sectors also need to be considered where the economic sector that should be spurred into a leading sector is the sector with the largest employment absorption and the sector that has links with the sector so that the majority of the population of South Kalimantan can increase. The results of the analysis state that except for gross regional domestic product (GRDP), population and unemployment have a significant individual effect on poverty. However, simultaneously the three independent variables affect poverty. The data was analyzed using the Least Square Panel using data on poverty, population, unemployment, and GRDP of 13 cities/districts in South Kalimantan from 2016 to 2020.

Abstract

Purpose The aims of this research are to measure the efficiency of electricity distribution in 33 Indonesian provinces from 2010 to 2019. Design/methodology/approach The efficiency was measured using a two-step bootstrap analysis, i.e. DEA BCC and DEA Bootstrap. Findings This study finds that the efficiency estimation uses DEA BCC overestimate and that the proximity between electrical sources and customers becomes one of the supporting factors for the electricity distribution process and reduces losses. Furthermore, workforce input, nameplate capacity, and network length will be adjusted to customers; electricity demand needs as a component of the electricity distribution process from plants to consumers. Research limitations/implications This study uses the output of the number of customers and the amount of electricity distributed while the input variables use the amount of labor, installed capacity, and length of the distribution network. Originality/value This study uses DEA Bootstrap and the variables used in the study is a combination of variables that have been proven to affect electricity distribution and have never been applied in Indonesia.

Abstract

Indonesia's regional economy that is proxy by using Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) per capita to form clusters is investigated. Besides, by using the Spatial Auto-regression (SAR) model, the effect of household consumption in a region to the surrounding area's economy is examined. The study on this topic is rather limited, especially in the regional economic development of the country. Furthermore, Indonesia is a heterogeneous country, and its consequence is that development policy should consider the geographic characteristics of the country. The results show that there are regional economy clusters in Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Sumatra. In contrast, household consumption in a region has a weak influence on the economy in the surrounding area.
