Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of learning styles and learning independence on student learning outcomes in the Air Conditioner System course. In addition to the direct influence, this study also examines the role of learning motivation as a mediating variable in the relationship between learning styles and learning independence on student learning outcomes in the Automotive Engineering Education Study Program. This study uses a quantitative approach with a data collection method through a questionnaire conducted from January to September. Instrument testing and validity were carried out on independent variables (learning styles and learning independence), dependent variables (learning outcomes), and intervening variables (learning motivation). Data analysis was carried out using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) approach with the help of SmartPLS 3 software. The analysis stages include: 1) evaluation of the outer model to test the validity and reliability of the constructs; 2) evaluation of the inner model to assess the relationship between latent constructs; and 3) significance testing through bootstrapping techniques to obtain t-statistics and p-values as the basis for hypothesis testing. The results showed that learning styles had a significant but negative effect on learning outcomes (p = 0.005), while learning independence had a significant and positive effect (p = 0.006). Meanwhile, learning motivation did not play a significant role as a mediating variable in the relationship between learning styles and learning independence on learning outcomes (p = 0.443 and p = 0.491). The results of the study demonstrate that learning styles and learning independence have a direct effect on learning outcomes, but learning motivation cannot mediate the relationship between learning styles and learning independence on learning outcomes.

Abstract

The high levels of air pollution and noise from motor vehicles cause negative impacts on the environment and health. Innovation in exhaust systems is needed to address this issue. This study aims to analyze the effect of different exhaust types on noise levels and exhaust gas emissions in a Honda 110 cc motorcycle. The independent variable in this study is the type of exhaust (standard, free flow, and AHLM), while the dependent variables include noise level (dB) and emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC). The control variables include measurement distance, engine operating temperature (80°C to 90°C), and fuel type (RON 90). The research method uses a quantitative experimental approach with a sound level meter to measure noise and a gas analyzer for exhaust emissions. Data analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis test to determine differences among exhaust variations. The statistical test results showed no significant difference (p > 0.05) in noise levels and exhaust emissions among the three types of exhaust. However, descriptively, the AHLM muffler performed best, reducing noise by up to 5.88% compared to free flow, and decreasing CO emissions by 17% and HC by 1%. This study is limited to testing one type of motorcycle and laboratory conditions, so the results do not yet represent actual traffic conditions. Thus, the AHLM muffler has the potential to be an adaptive exhaust system innovation that is more environmentally friendly and effective in reducing noise and motor vehicle emissions.

Abstract

Motor vehicle emissions and energy efficiency are key concerns in developing environmentally friendly automotive technologies, particularly for small-capacity motorcycles, which remain the dominant mode of transportation in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the effect of using the AHLM (Adaptive High-Performance, Low-Pollution Muffler) on fuel consumption and engine performance in a Honda 110 cc motorcycle. The research employed a comparative experimental method using three types of exhaust systems: standard, free flow, and AHLM. Tests were conducted using an engine dynamometer to measure torque and power, and a fuel consumption tester to record the time required to consume 10 ml (0.0074 kg) of fuel, calculated using the conversion formula m = (V_ml / 1000) × ρ, at three engine speeds: 1500 rpm, 2500 rpm, and 3500 rpm. The results show that the free flow exhaust produced the highest torque and power, at 10.9 Nm and 11.7 HP at 9000 rpm, respectively, but with higher fuel consumption. Conversely, the AHLM exhaust demonstrated better fuel efficiency, with consumption rates of 0.083 kg/h at 1500 rpm, 0.317 kg/h at 2500 rpm, and 0.416 kg/h at 3500 rpm, closely matching the efficiency of the standard exhaust. Although its peak power was slightly lower, the AHLM maintained stable torque and efficient combustion across all engine speeds. In conclusion, the AHLM exhaust system provides an optimal balance between performance and energy efficiency, offering potential as an adaptive exhaust technology that is both effective and environmentally friendly for small-capacity motorcycles.

Abstract

Surface roughness is a critical indicator of machining quality, directly affecting the functional performance and service life of manufactured components. This study aims to optimize the surface roughness of AISI 1045 steel by varying parameters (cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut) using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. Experiments were conducted on a FANUC 0i-Mate CNC lathe using Al-TiN-coated VNMG inserts. Moreover, the surface roughness was measured in accordance with ISO standards. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed the depth of cut was the most influential factor (45.21%), followed by cutting speed and feed rate. The Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio was identified as optimal surface roughness of 0.323 µm (N5 grade) at the parameter, with a cutting speed of 240 mm/min, a feed rate of 0.2 mm/rev, and a depth of cut of 0.6 mm. The novelty of this study is the demonstration that Taguchi's design and ANOVA combined can achieve reliable optimization results with considerably reduced experimental effort and offer practical industrial deployment, including for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Abstract

Improving energy efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions from motor vehicles have become a primary focus in the transition towards green energy in the transportation sector. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding eugenol, the main compound in clove oil, to Pertamax Green fuel on engine performance, fuel consumption efficiency, and exhaust emissions in a 2018 Honda Vario 125 motorcycle. The research method is an experimental approach with variations in the fuel mixture of pure Pertamax Green (P0), Pertamax Green + 0.2% eugenol (P1), 0.5% eugenol (P2), and 1% eugenol (P3). Testing was conducted using a dynamometer to measure torque and power, a static method for fuel consumption, and a gas analyzer to analyze CO and HC emission levels. The results showed that adding eugenol generally improved engine torque and power. The P2 mixture (0.5% eugenol) produced the highest torque of 8.48 N.m at 5000 rpm and maximum power of 7.2 HP at 8000 rpm, an increase of 38% and 18%, respectively, compared to pure Pertamax Green. Fuel consumption efficiency also increased by 4.1% with the P2 mixture, while excessive eugenol (1%) decreased efficiency due to slower combustion. In terms of emissions, CO levels decreased by up to 16.7%, and HC levels reduced by up to 22.54% as the concentration of eugenol increased.

Abstract

Crude oil reserves are steadily depleting. One viable alternative is the use of biodiesel fuel in diesel engines. However, a major drawback of biodiesel is its susceptibility to degradation due to low oxidative stability. Antioxidants are compounds that inhibit or slow down the oxidation process by preventing the formation of oxidants or reducing the propagation of free radicals. This study aims to investigate the effect of adding antioxidant additives derived from Moringa oleifera bio-oil, produced through pyrolysis, to B30 biodiesel fuel at concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, and 1500 ppm on the performance of a multicylinder diesel engine. A quantitative approach was employed using an experimental method, and data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis. The results showed that fuel consumption decreased with the addition of Moringa oleifera antioxidants, with reductions of 5.31%, 6.66%, and 7.08% at 500 ppm, 1000 ppm, and 1500 ppm, respectively, at an engine speed of 2500 rpm. The highest torque was achieved with 1000 ppm of Moringa oleifera antioxidant at 2728 rpm, reaching 111.9 Nm (an increase of 4.48%), while the highest power output was also obtained at 1000 ppm, reaching 70.9 HP at 5100 rpm (an increase of 3.2%).
