Abstract

The celebration of Eid al-Adha, traditionally a festive and communal expression of Islamic devotion, became a source of public controversy in Indonesia during the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak affecting livestock. At the core of this controversy lies an ethical and theological dilemma: whether sacrificial slaughter should proceed when animal health is compromised. This study explores three main aspects: first, the forms in which the controversy manifested; second, the factors that contributed to public and institutional disagreement; and third, the broader implications for Muslim social and spiritual life. Data were collected from selected online news articles and analyzed using Pan and Kosicki’s framing analysis model, including syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures. The findings indicate three major forms of controversy: affirmation of slaughter validity, uncertainty due to health risks, and concerns about ritual permissibility. Contributing factors include widespread media coverage, government restrictions, and religious fatwas. The implications range from economic losses in the livestock trade and reduced enthusiasm for sacrifice to social tensions within communities. This study concludes that the FMD outbreak disrupted not only ritual practice but also the socioreligious harmony surrounding Eid al-Adha, revealing tensions between religious commitment, health concerns, and public discourse.

Abstract

This article raises the importance of philosophical thinking by focusing on three main things: the paradigm of the urgency of philosophical thinking, the internal and external factors that influence it, and its positive and negative implications for Muslim thinking. The research method used is library research with a text approach based on literature theory. Data collection is done through collection, selection, classification, and analyzed with qualitative data analysis techniques of Miles and Huberman models. The results of the study show that the urgency paradigm of philosophical thinking has three forms: as a critical dialog partner, as a parent of science, and as an insight enhancer. Internal factors that influence the urgency of philosophical thinking include human curiosity, human awe of the universe, and thinkers' dissatisfaction with existing answers. External factors include freedom of thought, research into the origin of nature, and the influence of myths and fables in the Greek belief system. The positive implications of the urgency of philosophical thinking on Muslim thought include being a guide to scientific issues, a compass for the development of knowledge, and a means of testing scientific reasoning. However, there are also negative implications such as the emergence of nihilism, uncertainty, and lack of concern for practical or empirical aspects. In conclusion, the paper emphasizes that philosophy has an important role in various aspects of people's lives. In understanding nature, values, and actions, philosophy helps shape the way we understand the origins of knowledge. It also plays a key role in the development of science, ethics, politics, culture, and enriches our understanding of the meaning and purpose of life.

Abstract

This study examines the roots of traditional Islamic thought in Indonesia with a focus on the paradigm, influencing factors, and educational implications of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Previous studies have often been limited to historical, biographical, or conceptual approaches, resulting in partial understandings. To address this gap, the present research employs a systematic literature review (SLR) with a qualitative approach. Data were collected from 30 peer-reviewed national journal articles published between 2015–2025, selected through a three-stage process of identification, screening, and eligibility. Analysis was conducted using Harold Lasswell’s content analysis framework to categorize findings into three main clusters. The results reveal three dominant paradigms of traditional Islamic thought: conservative, modernist, and pragmatic. The development of these paradigms is shaped by internal factors including pesantren knowledge, kyai spirituality, and local customary values and external factors such as social change, technology, and politics. The implications are twofold: positively, traditional Islamic thought contributes to civilization, inclusiveness, and educational transformation; negatively, it presents challenges such as resistance to change, interpretative conflicts, and unequal access. This study contributes to the scholarship on Indonesian Islamic education by offering a comprehensive synthesis of pesantren’s role as both a preserver of tradition and an agent of adaptation in modern society. The findings highlight the need for pesantren to develop hybrid models that integrate classical learning with contemporary educational practices, ensuring their continued relevance in the global context.

Abstract

Environmental problems become humanitarian problems, such as damaged area layers, erosion, and disease outbreaks that make the ecosystem unbalanced, which will endanger humans. Meanwhile, the discussion of Islamic relations and environmental ethics has always continued to be debated, ranging from handling and solving to sustainable businesses. This paper aims to elucidate the eco-religious paradigm and implications of ecological ethics in Islamic studies, including environmental movements. The study employs the analytical descriptive literature research issue. Islamic study and environmental ethics functionally serve as a tool or media that provides insight into various approaches to comprehending the relationship between Islam and environmental ethics so as not to be trapped in the fanaticism of secularism and human arrogance in dealing with nature. This study contributes theoretically through relationship theory, inter-relationship to interaction in terms of religious and environmental ethics points of view. Also, it seeks to make practical contributions in the form of human spiritual awareness to preserve the environment as a form of constructing natural values (hablu min al-‘alam). Furthermore, environmental ethics continues to evolve, adjusting to the need to assemble harmony in the future.
