Abstract

The fabrication of dentures from the eggshell has been done using the precipitation method. FTIR and AAS tests were carried out to determine the functional groups and calcium oxide content in egg shells. From the AAS results, the CaO value is 58.33% which is much greater than the minimum standard CaO in dentures. Mechanical tests were carried out on dentures treatment with immersion into distilled water and the results were compared if immersion using fluoride toothpaste. It was found that immersion with fluoride toothpaste can increase the elasticity of dentures by more than 100%.

Abstract

Perpindahan panas merupakan fenomena fisika yang banyak diaplikasikan dalam bidang dirgantara, industri, nuklir, pembangkit listrik, dan otomotif. Simulasi dapat dilakukan untuk lebih memahami fenomena perpindahan panas agar dapat menghemat biaya dan risiko yang timbul. Profil perpindahan panas dalam silinder komposit multilayered dua dimensi telah berhasil ditentukan dengan menggunakan metode analitik dan numerik. Profil distribusi suhu dalam waktu yang berbeda dan difusivitas termal yang berbeda untuk dua lapisan telah berhasil  dihitung menggunakan Python 3.7 dengan Numpy library.

Abstract

Pearl clam shell waste can be decomposed as a result of CaO compounds. CaO is a compound that can be applied in various fields such as biomaterials, electronics, agricultural industries, and others, for example as a source of biological calcium which plays a role in the growth and survival of shrimp, lobsters, and fish. This study aims to examine the effect of Calcination Temperature on calcium oxide (CaO) characteristics of pearl clam shells (Pinctada Maxima). The procedures carried out in this study include the preparation of pearl clam shells (pinctada maxima), the formation of Calcium Oxide (CaO) using the calcination method which is then continued with the characterization of the test sample. The CaO characteristics studied include CaO characteristics such as CaO compound content, powder size, powder density, bulk density and porosity. The results of measuring the CaO characteristics of pearl clam shells with variations in calcination temperature get an increase in calcination temperature resulting in the CaO yield value tending to decrease with an increase in CaO levels. Bulk density is not particularly affected by calcination temperature, but powder density tends to increase with temperature increase, whereas, porosity and particle size have smaller values. Interestingly, the values of density and porosity are inversely proportional which is closely related to empty cavities or pores formed as a result of differences in calcination temperature.

Abstract

For a long period, some students in schools thought that Physics and Mathematics were difficult subjects. These two subjects are a scourge for students in most schools, not only in the NTB area but also in various other regions throughout Indonesia. For this reason, multiple efforts need to be made to overcome these learning difficulties. Learning Physics and Mathematics should emphasize providing direct experience to develop student competencies, directed to "find out" and "do" to help students gain understanding. It will be significantly easier for students if learning Physics and Mathematics invites students to learn to formulate concepts inductively, based on empirical facts, first through the inquiry method. Teachers are faced with the low necessary abilities of students. Not a few teachers have complained about their students' low abilities, especially in understanding the basic concepts of Physics and Mathematics. Many factors influence this, one of which is the input factor (students). Students from different schools have different levels of understanding, both in Physics and Mathematics. It is a fact that, in general, students who graduated from SMP / M.Ts. There are still many basic concepts of Physics and Mathematics which are relatively low. When comparing students who come from the city and out of town schools, public and private schools, they have quite significant differences in graduates' ability. This condition also contributes to the low quality of the input. Based on this condition, we hold community service activities to strengthen understanding of the basic concepts of Physics and Mathematics for students as their initial provision for studying other material in more depth. The approach used is an empirical approach with guided inquiry methods. The results obtained are that the learning method of this model is very popular with students and teachers, and with the help of Guided Inquiry-based worksheets, it is straightforward for students to improve their understanding of the basic concepts of physics and mathematics, because the guidance in the LKS is very structured.

Abstract

Masyarakat Pagutan Barat sebagian besar warganya mengalami trauma terhadap gempa Lombok 2018. Selain trauma, air PDAM yang mengalir mengalami kekeruhan selama beberapa bulan sehingga tidak dapat digunakan untuk kebersihan sehari-hari. Diperlukan suatu teknologi sederhana berupa penjernihan air agar warga dapat memanfaatkan air PDAM. Salah satu metode penjernihan air yang sederhana dan efektif adalah dengan menggunakan komposit karbon aktif (KOMAK). Karbon aktif merupakan absorben yang baik untuk menyerap polutan organik dan anorganik, senyawa-senyawa berbahaya dan bau dari air. Disamping itu, masyarakat Pagutan Barat perlu diberi edukasi pemanfaatan air yang tercemar menjadi air layak pakai sebelum air tersebut dijernihkan menggunakan alat penjernih air KOMAK. Oleh karena itu setelah dilakukan pembuatan komposit karbon aktif, diberikan juga pendampingan pembuatan prototipe alat perjernih air KOMAK sehingga prototipe ini dapat dikembangkan sendiri oleh masyarakat untuk memperoleh air layak pakai.

Abstract

Kemiskinan merupakan permasalahan utama masyarakat wilayah pesisir. Padahal, lingkungan tempat tinggal yang dekat dengan laut memiliki potensi budidaya aneka jenis ikan dan hewan laut lainnya salah satunya udang. Kendala utama pada budidaya udang secara intensif adalah tingginya biaya yang diperlukan untuk pembuatan tambak. Untuk itu, pada kegiatan ini akan dilakukan budidaya udang vanami menggunakan inovasi tambak udang menggunakan teknologi bioflok berbasis kerangka bambu. Inovasi ini diharapkan dapat mereduksi biaya pemeliharaan kolam bioflok berbasis besi yang sudah dikembangkan sebelumnya. Kolam bioflok dibuat dengan diameter 5 meter dengan pengikat tali nilon. Tiang bambu dibuat dengan jarak 3-5 cm. Setiap bambu dijahit dengan tali nilon untuk meningkatkan kekuatan kerangka dari gaya dorong air. Kolam terpal berbasis bambu sudah dapat digunakan oleh masyarakat pesisir sebagai alternative pengganti kolam terpal kerangka besi. Keuntungan pengembangan inovasi kolam ini yaitu tidak perlu perawatan tiap tahun seperti hal nya kolam terpal berbasis besi. Sehingga dapat mengurangi baiaya pemeliharaan setiap tahun.

Abstract

Currently, the use of gadgets has been rampant in all levels of society, including among children. Uncontrolled use of gadgets has more negative impacts, both from social, health, academic and psychosocial aspects. In this regard, the role of parents and teachers is needed to anticipate or reduce the negative impact of using gadgets. However, an understanding of the dangers of gadgets to children and how to prevent or overcome them is not necessarily understood comprehensively by parents and teachers. Seeing these conditions, an innovative activity was carried out which aims to 1) provide an understanding of the dangers of exposure to gadgets and social media in children and 2) socialize and demonstrate the concept of geoscience education and geo-tourism based on geopark as an alternative to reduce gadget exposure to children, as well as enrich practical experiences using the concept of geoscience and geotourism (geosista). This activity is designed for teachers and parents with the hope of being a source of inspiration and also as a guide to be practiced when with children both at school and at home. The concept of GEOSISTA (geoscience and geo-tourism based on Geopark) is considered important for the people of the island of Lombok by considering the potential of a landscape that can provide benefits in both economic, social and cultural aspects. The activities, which are packaged in the form of seminars and workshops, are felt to have an impact on increasing participants' understanding and skills in applying the Geosista concept as an effort to reduce gadget dependence on children. In addition, building a generation that has a strong character in preserving the environment through science can be expected to be a joint mission, both for teachers and parents

Abstract

Desa Pelangan merupakan salah satu daerah penambangan emas di Sekotong Barat. Aktivitas penambangan dilakukan secara legal maupun ilegal. Aktivitas penambangan secara illegal dilakukan menggunakan peralatan sederhana tanpa memperhatikan keselamatan kerja dan keselamatan lingkungan akibat pengolahan emas. Lingkungan yang tercemar mulai dirasakan warga dengan tercemarnya air di desa ini. Pencemaran yang terjadi diantaranya air yang berbau dan warna air yang keruh. Sehingga, perlu dilakukan pengabdian untuk memberikan pengetahuan cara membuat alat filtrasi dan cara menjernihkan air berbasis kayu bakau dan batu apung. Kayu bakau dipotong secara homogen dan dilakukan pembakaran hingga hitam sempurna, sedangkan batu apung ditreatment dengan dibuat dalam bentuk partikel dan utuh. Kemampuan dari kedua bahan utma ini sebagai absorben akan sangat membantu proses filtrasi. Dari hasil pengabdian ini, masyarakat sangat antusias karna memperoleh air yang layak untuk dipakai. Hasil yang diperoleh dari alat penjernih ini yaitu air menjadi lebih jernih, tidak berbau, dan layak untuk dipakai. Pembuatan alat ini menjadi salah satu solusi yang dapat diterapkan masyarakat desa Pelangan untuk memperoleh air bersih.

Abstract

ABSTRAKBiopolimer kitosan memiliki banyak aplikasi diantaranya sebagai  biosorben, scaffold, bahan pengawet ikan, dan anti mikroba pada makanan. Dalam beberapa penelitian, kitosan sangat efektif dalam mengadsorpsi ion zat warna Metilen biru. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk identifikasi karakteristik kitosan hasil isolasi dari cangkang kerang Mutiara. Proses isolasi biopolimer kitosan menggunakan metode deasetilasi bertahap. Dimana proses isolasi dilakukan dengan tiga proses yaitu deproteinasi, demineralisasi, dan deasetilasi. Serbuk hasil isolasi diidentifikasi rendemennya, diukur densitasnya, analisis gugus fungsi yang terbentuk dengan FTIR, dan menghitung kemampuan dalam mengadsorbsi zat warna metilen blue dengan Uv-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kitosan yang dihasilkan berbentuk serbuk berwarna putih keabuan, rendemen 33,71%, densitas curah kitosan sebesar 1,21 gr/, serta didapat derajat deasetilasi dari kitosan sebesar 57,50 %. Efisiensi penyerapan zat warna Metilen biru oleh kitosan di setiap konsentrasi rata-rata bernilai 90 %. Oleh karena itu, biopolimer kitosansangat efektif dalam mengadsorbsi zat warna metilen blue. Kata kunci: deasetilasi bertahap; efisiensi penyerapan; karakteristik kitosan. ABSTRACTChitosan biopolymer has many applications including as a biosorbent, scaffold, fish preservative, and antimicrobial in food. In several studies, chitosan was very effective in adsorption of methylene blue dye ions. The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of chitosan isolated from pearl shells. The process of isolation of chitosan biopolymer uses the stepwise deacetylation method. Where the isolation process is carried out by three processes, namely deproteination, demineralization, and deacetylation. The isolated powder was identified its yield, measured its density, analyzed the functional groups formed by FTIR, and calculated the ability to adsorb methylene blue dye with UV-Vis. The results show that the chitosan is a grayish-white powder, the yield is 33.71%, the bulk density of chitosan is 1.21 gr/cm3, and the degree of deacetylation of chitosan is 57.50%. The absorption efficiency of methylene blue dye by chitosan at each concentration averaged 90%. Therefore, chitosan biopolymer is very effective in adsorbing methylene blue dye. Keywords: gradual deacetylation; absorption efficiency; chitosan characteristics.

Abstract

Information technology is a technology utilized to create, modify, communicate or disseminate up-to-date information through an advanced media. Podcast is the current channel to spread out an informative and educational information. The popularity of podcasts as a public medium to deliver information increases significantly in the recent year. This is supported by the condition of the Covid-19 pandemic. The podcast is continuously applicated in all areas, such as entertainments, governments and educational circumstances. The two-way communication has become an interactive broadcasting system not only for the young people but also for the elderly people. So that the presence of podcasts continues to be positively welcomed by the community. The event aims to form a podcast as a media for promotion and dissemination of information related to research and service innovations produced by lecturers at the University of Mataram. It is carried out in some stages, including surveying the situation and field conditions, implementating, and evaluating. In terms of the implementation phase, it is divided into three main activities, such as socializing, training, and mentoring. To facilitate these activities, several approaches were applied, like participatory rural appraisal (PRA), persuasive approaches, and educational approaches. The results of the survey conducted by the health promotion team from the health department of West Nusa Tenggara Province showed that LPPM required several equipment, such as cameras/webcams, microphones, earphones, a mixer, tripods, lightings, an OBS software, an Adobe Premier Pro, and a personal computer. In addition, from the results of observations, it is concluded that the Research and Service Institute (LPPM) of the Mataram University has a suitable room to hold the podcast. Overall, the implementation of podcast at the LPPM has been successfully implemented. The evaluation as one of the most important part shows that there are technical and non-technical obstacles occurred, such as none-standardized computer equipment and room arrangements. This is an important note for the next implementation. However, in general, the podcast as an informative, educative, and accurate information and promotion media has been successfully established at the LPPM of Mataram University.
