Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk membuktikan apakah penggunaan koran dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca dalam bahasa Inggris pada siswa siswi kelas X SMK Negeri 1 Rantepao. Di dalam penelitian ini,  peneliti menggunakan quasi experimental design non-equivalenth group yang terdiri dari kelas eksperimental dan kelas kontrol.Peneliti menggunakan purposive sampling dalam pengambilan sampel yang diambil dari populasi kelas X SMK Negeri 1 Rantepao. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah angket dan test. Data analisa dilakukan secara statistik dan deskriptif. Berdasarkan hasil data yang telah dianalisis, ditemukan bahwa 3.52 untuk nilai t-hitungdengan menggunakan dk 37+37-2 = 72 pada taraf signifikansi 0.05. Sedangkan nilai t-table adalah 1.995 Berdasarkan hasil dari data yang telah di analisis tersebut, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa t-hitung lebih besar dari pada t-table. Sehingga, hipotesis dalam penitian ini diterima atau dengan kata lain penggunakan koran memberikan pengaruh penting dalam kemampuan siswa-siswi dalam membaca bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana menemukan pencapaian kosakata dengan menggunakan teknik “ Mencari Pasangan “. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SLB Negeri 2 Palu khususnya bagi siswa Tuna Grahita tahun ajaran 2015-2016 sebagai subjek di penelitian ini. Subject pada penelitian ini terdiri dari 10 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain PTK (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas).  Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus dan setiap siklus terdiri dari empat pertemuan, dan dalam setiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan,observasi dan refleksi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah data kuanlitatif dan kualitatif (deskriptif).Data kuantitatif diperoleh dari hasil tes siswa dalam penguasaan kosakata, sedangkan kualitatif diperoleh dari observasi dan field note. Berdasarkan data tersebut,pada tes1,dari hasil penelitian diperoleh 5 siswa (50 %)pada tingkatan rendah, sedangkan pada test II hasil penelitian diperoleh 8 siswa ( 80 % )berhasil. Setelah seluruh data yang diperoleh. dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran kosakata melalui tehnik “Mencari Pasangan“  dapat membuat proses pembelajaran menarik, membuat siswa paham akan arti kata, membuat siswa mempunyai kemampuan berkomunikasi terhadap orang lain. Terbukti dengan adanya pembelajaran kosakata melalui tehnik “ Mencari Pasangan “ memperbaiki penguasaan kosakata siswa. Diharapkan bahwa tehnik “ Mencari Pasangan “ sebagai salah satu tehnik dalam pembelajaran kosakata yang digunakan

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis permulaan melalui media gambar pada siswa kelas I SDN Boyomoute. Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, peneliti melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas. Jumlah siswa dalam penelitian ini yaitu 13 orang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Data yang digunakan pada penelitia ini terdiri dari dua jenis yaitu, data kuantitatif diperoleh dari tes hasil belajar siswa dan data kualitatif merupakan data aktivitas guru dan siswa yang diperoleh, dari hasil observasi baik siswa maupun guru pada saat pembelajarn berlangsung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa penggunaan media gambar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis permulaan siiswa, sesuai dengan hasil siklus I dimana diperoleh ketuntasan secara klasikal sebesar 38,46 persen meningkat menjadi 92,30 persen pada siklus II. Dapat diamati juga dengan menggunakan media gambar siswa lebih senang dan suka memperhatikan jenis tulisan yang akan ditulis dan dengan menggunakan gambar-gambar yang bermacam-macam dan menarik siswa akan semakin tertarik untuk menulis

Abstract

This paper discusses teaching approach and media in English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom. It brings to lights vocabulary teaching, bilingual approach and using flashcards in the teaching of vocabulary to young learners. As teaching vocabulary can take place from very early stage to a high level of learning, its introduction needs to be managed in such a way using an appropriate approach along with utilizing particular media, such as flashcards, that the learners can enjoy the teaching process. This is based on the consideration that not all teaching media fit in the context of vocabulary teaching through bilingual approach. For this reason, it is important that teachers of English whose concern is how young learners learn vocabulary adopt appropriate teaching media on their behalf. Once the learners feel secured and confortable with the media used, it is guaranteed that they can learn as many words as possible and, thus, the desired outcome of the learning can be projected to occur. This article emphasizes the issue of bringing together bilingual approach and flahcards together in the teaching of vocabulary to young learners.

Abstract

This research aims to determine if using POSSE Strategy affects reading comprehension of students majoring in English education of Tadulako University. This is a pre-experimental study using the one group pretest and posttest design. The population was 319 students in academic year 2018/2019. The samples were 35 students selected employing purposive sampling technique. Paper-and-pencil method was used when collecting the data with a test as the instrument. The test was administered twice namely pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed statistically using .05 level of significance and 34 degree of freedom. The result showed that after receiving intervention through POSSE Strategy, students scores got improved. In other words, using POSSE Strategy is effective in improving the sampled-students’ reading comprehension on any kinds of English text.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using Instagram captions in improving vocabulary mastery of grade eight students of SMPN 4 Tanantovea Donggala, Central Sulawesi. This is a quasi-experimental research design, involving 44 students selected through the total population sampling technique. To collect the data, the paper-and-pencil method with tests (pretest and posttest) was used. Results showed that there was a significant difference between students’ vocabulary mastery before and after the intervention. With p=0.05 and df=42, it was found that the tcounted value of 9.53 is higher than the tcritical value of 1.683. This means the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using Instagram captions can improve vocabulary mastery of grade eight students of SMPN 4 Tanantovea Donggala.

Abstract

This study aims to determine if using POW+TREE Strategy effectively promotes writing skills of the sophomores of the English Education Study Program at Tadulako University on analytical exposition text. This is a pre-experimental study involving 20 participants selected purposively. The result showed that the POW+TREE Strategy successfully improves the participants’ writing skills on analytical exposition text. The participants found the strategy helpful in organizing and developing their logical arguments. Their writing performance and critical thinking skills are much improved resulting from the POW+TREE Strategy.

Abstract

This library research investigates how picture series implementation effectively improves students' writing skills on different text types. Data were collected from journals published in the last ten years, from 2012-2022, and analyzed using content analysis. The results indicated that picture series effectively improve students' writing skills in descriptive, narrative, recount, procedure, explanation, and spoof texts. Even the picture series is helpful when applied to teach writing skills to deaf and hard-of-hearing students. A visual representation of events arranged in chronological order naturally provides the students with clues that can help them arrange and develop ideas in writing. Besides, the picture series stimulate the students' process of thinking and imagination to write the assigned text. Picture series also promote students' engagement and participation. In other words, picture series enables students to improve their writing skills and change their behavior toward learning.

Abstract

Abstract. This research looked at errors made by the sophomores majoring in English Education of Tadulako University in writing analytical exposition text. It intends to (1) identify the kinds of errors committed by the students in writing the text, and (2) determine the causes of the errors. This is a-qualitative research, employing 20 students enrolled in Text Type Writing course in the Academic Year 2020. Results of the data analysis indicated that there were 421 cases of errors which were then classified into five major categories: orthographic errors, word forms and grammar (morpho-syntactic errors), errors on words and meanings (lexico-semantic), errors in punctuation and errors in capitalization. These errors are caused by influence of the students’ first language (L1) (interlingual errors), lack of target language knowledge (intralingual errors), and communication strategies. This paper addresses error analysis using Dulay’s 1982 Linguistic Category Taxonomy, which so far lack considerably in scientific literature. Previous studies have almost exclusively focused on using Surface Structure Taxonomy, another taxonomy is therefore needed for investigation.   Keywords: Analytical Exposition Text, Error Analysis, Writing Skills

Abstract

The aim of this research is to prove that applying contextual teaching and learning can develop speaking skills of semester 3 Students of AMIK Tri Dharma Palu. The research applied quasi experimental with non-equivalent control group. The population was 95 students of semester 3 of AMIK Tri Dharma Palu. The samples were 42 students selected employing purposive sampling technique. Paper and-pencil method was used when collecting the data with a test as the instrument. The test was administered twice namely pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed statistically using 0.05 level of significance and 40 degree of freedom. The result show that after receiving intervention through contextual teaching and learning, students’ score got improved. In other words, applying contextual teaching and learning is effective in developing students’ speaking skill of semester 3 of AMIK Tri Dharma Palu.
