Abstract

Purpose: This research examines the implementation of Financial Accounting Standards Interpretation (ISAK) 35 in Darul Hasanah Islamic Boarding School, aiming to analyze the challenges in its adoption and provide strategic recommendations for improving the school’s accounting system. Design/Methodology/Approach: A qualitative case study approach was used, involving direct observations, in-depth interviews with financial managers and leadership, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman method, which includes data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. Findings: The study identifies key challenges in implementing ISAK 35, including human resource limitations in accounting, a lack of understanding of ISAK 35, and insufficient technological infrastructure. The study recommends a phased strategy for implementation, focusing on HR training, the use of digital-based accounting software, and the preparation of more systematic financial reports. Practical Implications: The findings suggest that adopting ISAK 35 can enhance financial transparency, strengthen trust from donors and the community, and ensure the sustainability of the boarding school’s operations. Originality/Value: This research contributes to the literature on nonprofit accounting by exploring the application of ISAK 35 in Islamic boarding schools and offering evidence-based recommendations for improving accounting practices in these institutions.

Abstract

To investigate the determinants of sustainable Islamic banking in Indonesia by integrating financial performance, maqashid sharia (zakat and CSR), and Islamic governance, with the Islamicity Financial Performance Index (IFPI) as a mediating variable. Quantitative research using 176 quarterly observations from four Islamic commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (2015–2024). Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Financial performance, maqashid sharia, and Islamic governance positively and significantly affect IFPI, which in turn strongly impacts sustainable Islamic banking. IFPI also mediates the relationship between these variables and sustainability, highlighting that economic, social, and spiritual integration drives long-term bank sustainability. This study introduces IFPI as a mediating variable, providing a comprehensive framework that links financial performance with sharia compliance and social responsibility, offering a novel perspective in measuring Islamic banking performance. Islamic banks should strengthen the integration of financial and sharia principles by optimizing zakat, CSR, and governance mechanisms to enhance long-term sustainability. Future research may expand samples or include additional factors like digitalization or green banking to enrich findings

Abstract

This paper aims to uncover the main problem as well as to offer alternative solutions to the realization of mudharabah financing for Islamic banks in Indonesia, which is still 3% as of June 2021, through optimizing the role and authority of Islamic banks in the management of cash waqf. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The main problem of mudharabah financing is the high risk of loss of Islamic banks which have the potential to be unable to provide profit sharing to their depositors (negative profit sharing), therefore Islamic banks must look for alternative sources of deposits with a return rate of 0%, one of which is a source of cash waqf. By regulation, currently the authority of Islamic banks in the management of cash waqf is still limited to cashiers (traffic cash waqf funds) with their position as LKS-PWU. To increase mudharabah financing through cash waqf sources, Islamic banks must optimize their role as Nazhir through changes to Law Number 41 of 2004 and its derivation regulations, so that the money waqf funds that have been collected can be directly channeled to productive and prospective sectors for economic empowerment of the people through mudharabah financing. In addition, Islamic banks can reproduce the profits from the financing to the micro business sectors, the poor, and/or other sectors so that the profit-oriented and social-oriented missions of Islamic banks can run in a balanced way.
