Abstract

The need for data and information is an essential issue in sustainable mangrove management. The availability of data from authorized institutions is essential considering the reliability and consistency of the data, both to process techniques and data availability. This study used national mangrove and landcover data produced by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through online services. 11 data series (2000 – 2019) obtained through the Representational State Transfer (REST) Application Programming Interface (API) service. Application of spatial analysis of vector data through geoprocessing tools and attribute data management to determine the distribution and changes in mangrove cover and the factors that trigger changes. Estimated data indicate a 13.4% decline in mangroves in Riau Province, with an average decline of 2,495.9 hectares/year. Over 98% of mangrove changes into other functions are caused by human behavior towards mangroves; we need a genuine attitude to preserve the mangroves of Riau Province for the future

Abstract

The breakwater construction to overcome abrasion at Pambang Pesisir has resulted in the formation of land accretion which expanded the coastal land and giving rises to issues in public management. This research was aimed to formulate the alternative management of land accretion. A field survey and light unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) data acquisition were used to observe the accretion formed. Furthermore, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to generate the alternative managements of land accretion. Accretion land was estimated around 80,359.4 m2and based on coastal area protection, living creature’s habitat, fisheries resources, tourism and business development benefit, social community supporting and sustainability of social interaction criteria’s, this area had great potential to be managed with use it for mangrove planting or rehabilitation sites in ecological land-based management.

Abstract

ABSTRAKChaetognatha atau cacing panah (arrow worm) merupakan salah satu kelompok holoplankton yang distribusi dan keragamannya cukup tinggi di perairan. Chaetognatha memiliki peran yang sangat penting didalam rantai makanan dan juga berfungsi sebagai bioindikator kondisi oceanograf suatu wilayah. Kelimpahan Chaetognatha di dalam perairan dapat mempengaruhi kelimpahan larva ikan dan zooplankton lainnya, sehingga informasi keberadaannya sangat penting dalam pengelolaan perikanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman, distribusi dan kelimpahan Chaetognatha di perairan pesisir Kota Dumai Provinsi Riau. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan April hingga September 2021 di perairan pesisir Kota Dumai. Jumlah stasiun pengambilan sampel sebanyak tiga titik dengan jumlah pengambilan sampel sebanyak dua kali pada masing-masing stasiun. Jumlah jenis Chaetognatha di perairan pesisir Kota Dumai tergolong rendah hanya ditemukan 2 jenis yaitu Eukronia calliops dan Sagitta megalopthalmus. Distribusi Chaetognatha di perairan Kota Dumai cukup merata dan ditemukan di ketiga lokasi penelitian walaupun kelimpahan yang relatif berbeda. Kelimpahan Chaetognatha berkisar antara 19-322 ind/1000 m3, namun jika dibandingkan dengan perairan lainnya, kelimpahan dilokasi studi sangat rendah.Kata kunci: Chaetognatha, keragaman, Kota Dumai, perairan pesisirABSTRACTChaetognatha or arrow worms are one of the holoplankton groups whose distribution and diversity is quite high in waters. Chaetognatha has important role in the food chain and also functions as a bioindicator of oceanographic conditions. The abundance of Chaetognatha in the waters can affect the abundance of fish larvae and other zooplankton, so that information on its existence is very important in fisheries management. The aims of study to determine the diversity, distribution and abundance of Chaetognatha in the coastal waters of Dumai City, Riau Province. This research was conducted from April to September 2021 in the coastal waters of Dumai City. The number of sampling stations are three points and the number of samplings twice at each station. The number of Chaetognatha species in the coastal waters of Dumai City is relatively low, only 2 species were found, namely Eukronia calliops and Sagitta megalopthalmus. The distribution of Chaetognatha in the waters of Dumai City was quite even and found in three sites, although the abundances were relatively different. The abundance of Chaetognatha ranges from 19-322 ind/1000 m3, it is very low compare to other research.Key word: Chaetognath, coastal waters, diversity, Dumai City

Abstract

This research was conducted for five months from May to September 2022 which is located in Sungai Apit District by taking six (6) villages as sampling locations from the eight (8) existing villages. This research was conducted for five months from May to September 2022 which is located in Sungai Apit District by taking six (6) villages as sampling locations from eight (8) existing villages. The research objective was to calculate and assess the adaptive capacity of mangrove ecosystems in Siak District, Siak Regency. Measurement of the adaptive capacity of mangrove ecosystems is carried out by analyzing six parameters, namely Mangrove Dimension Index (IDMg), Dominant Mangrove Species, Mangrove Tree Density, Number of Mangrove Species, Substrate Type, Ecosystem Distance from Settlement. The value of the adaptive capacity of mangrove ecosystems is in the range of 0.0-1.0, with five capacity categories namely "very low, low, medium, high, and very high". The results showed that the number of mangrove species found growing on the coast of Sungai Apit District was 19 species belonging to 10 families and 12 genera, distributed in the "low" category with a mangrove dimension index (IDMg) value of 0.6 (0.4<IDMg <0.8).Dominant species from the Rhizophoraceae family with a density classified as "high". The adaptive capacity of the mangrove ecosystem at the study site is classified as ", high" with an adaptive capacity value of 0.67 (0.6 ≤ KPMg ≤ 0.8)

Abstract

Seasonal floods in Lake Lubuk Siam are already rare. This flood brought a lot of nutrients and fish into Lake Lubuk Siam. This results in a lack of fishermen's catches, so finding alternative sources of additional income for the surrounding community is necessary. This service uses the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method, which seeks to actively involve the community in efforts to develop an ecotourism area in Lake Lubuk Siam. The educational activity on ecotourism development in Lake Lubuk Siam was attended by 30 people consisting of the village government, the chairman, and members of the fishermen's group. Based on the questionnaire results, it can be seen that many people still did not understand the concept of ecotourism. Some others even consider that there is no potential for ecotourism development in their area. However, after socialization and education, the community understood and realized that the aquatic resources in their area could be developed into an ecotourism area. Through the results of this education, it can be concluded that the local community in Lake Lubuk Siam already has sufficient information as the primary capital for developing ecotourism independently in their area.

Abstract

The findings of research products that have the potential to become entrepreneurial products are SAJAG (magic powder for peat water purification) with variant formulations of CaO+PAC and CaO+Al2(SO4)3+PAC ingredients that have not been produced and patented in the same packaging and brand. The objectives of this service are to: (1) transfer the results of science and technology directly to UMK partners, students/alumni of the University of Riau through the development and production of variants of SAJAG material formulations; (2) fostering the entrepreneurial spirit of students with SAJAG products; (3) produce useful and economically valuable products from research results that have the potential to be marketed by UMK students as entrepreneurial actors; (4) generate student income potential from marketing SAJAG products. The methods of counseling, training and independent practice as well as mentoring are used in implementing the activities to 25 students/alumni who are members of business partners. From the results of this activity, knowledge changes in the target community groups have been obtained and have succeeded in implementing skills by producing a total of 7000 sachets of product for 10L volume of peat water, of which 1500 sachets were successfully sold with a sales value of Rp. 3,750,000. The production process continued until simple patents were obtained for the two variants of SAJAG products to be marketed, managed by the 'BAHARI' group as a new student business partner.

Abstract

Sungai Selodang merupakan aliran  yang berasal dari Sungai Mandau. Di sepanjang Sungai Selodang terdapat aktivitas perkebunan kelapa sawit dan tanaman karet. Selama musim hujan, air limpasan dapat membawa bahan organik yang berasal dari perkebunan dan merupakan potensi untuk meningkatkan bahan organik air dengan demikian mempengaruhi kondisi limnologis air.  Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi limnologi berdasarkan parameter fisik, kimia, dan biologi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni–Juli 2022. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode survei. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan sebanyak 3 kali, dengan interval waktu 2 minggu. Parameter yang diukur adalah suhu, kecerahan, kedalaman, kecepatan arus, nitrat, fosfat dan konsentrasi klorofil-α. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suhu 29-30oC, kecerahan 34-36 cm, kedalaman 8,12-13,1 7 m, kecepatan arus 0,22-025 m/detik,  DO 2,79-3,62 mg/L, CO2 17,31-21,31 mg/L, pH 4,28-4,57, klorofil-α 5,95-14,49 μg/L, nitrat 0,0579-0,078 mg/L, dan fosfat 0,0671-0,073 mg/L. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa distribusi klorofil-αdipengaruhi oleh kecerahan, kecepatan arus, suhu, pH, dan konsentrasi nitrat. Konsentrasi nitrat menunjukkan bahwa sungai bersifat oligotrofik, konsentrasi fosfat eutrofik dan klorofil-α termasuk mesotrofik. Secara umum kondisi limnologis Sungai Selodang tergolong baik dan mampu menunjang kehidupan organisme akuatik

Abstract

Macrobrachium rosenbergii dikenal dengan nama udang galah adalah salah satu crustacea yang memiliki nilai ekonomis penting dan dapat dijumpai di sungai rokan dan sungai siak. Kedua sungai ini merupakan sungai besar di Provinsi Riau namun perairan Sungai Rokan dan Sungai Siak saat ini sudah mengalami tekanan atau tercemar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kondisi perairan Sungai Rokan dan Sungai Siak, juga mengetahui perbedaan morfologi dari udang galah yang diperoleh dari Sungai Rokan dan Sungai Siak. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada bulan April-Mei 2022. Sampel di peroleh dari Sugai Siak dan Sungai Rokan dan pengamatan dilakukan di Laboratorium. Pengambilan sampel udang dilakukan 3 kali sekali/2 minggu. Udang ditangkap menggunakan jala dan pancing. Data udang dianalisis dengan uji Kruskall-Wallis dan uji Mann Whitney. Tujuh parameter lingkungan perairan dan sembilan belas karakteristik morfologi udang dipelajari. Panjang karapas (CL) digunakan sebagai referensi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di sungai rokan suhu air 30-310C, kecerahan 13-26cm, pH 6, oksigen terlarut 2,53-8,33 mg/L, karbon dioksida 2,8-5,00 mg/L, BOD5 10,10-33,20 mg/L, kekerasan 100,0 -160,0 mg/L, dan suhu air Sungai Siak 26-300C, kecerahan 14-23 cm, pH 6, oksigen terlarut 2,08-4,12 mg/L, karbon dioksida 2,7-4,00 mg/L, BOD5 10,10-33,20 mg/ L, kekerasan 115,0-155,0 mg/L. Karakteristik morfologi udang dari kedua sungai berbeda (p<0,05). Udang dari Sungai Rokan lebih kecil dari Sungai Siak (masing-masing 24,3 mm CL dan 29,3 mm CL). Udang Sungai Siak menunjukkan beberapa karakteristik yang relatif lebih panjang dibandingkan dengan udang dari Sungai Rokan, seperti panjang mimbar (201% dan 206%), panjang total (471% dan 513%) dan panjang standar (214%). dan 221%) dari CL masing-masing. Namun, udang dari Sungai Rokan memiliki karpus yang relatif lebih panjang, masing-masing sebesar 42% dan 35% dari CL

Abstract

Kualitas air di hulu dan hilir Sungai Kampar berbeda akibat pencemaran. Namun, Macrobrachium rosenbergii dapat ditemukan di daerah tersebut. Kondisi perairan dapat mempengaruhi karakteristik morfologi udang. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari – April 2022. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan tiga kali /2 minggu, dengan menggunakan bubu dan pancing. Data udang dianalisis menggunakan uji Kruskall Wallis dan Mann Whitney. Tujuh parameter lingkungan perairan dan 19 karakteristik morfologi udang dipelajari. Panjang karapas (PK) digunakan sebagai referensi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa di bagian hulu suhu air 29-300C, kecerahan 38.5-42.5cm, pH 7, DO 4.12-4.86 mg/L, CO2 4.99-5.99 mg/L, BOD5 4.12-4.82 mg/L, kekerasan 120.0- 320.0 mg/L. Sedangkan di hilir suhu 29-300C, kecerahan 33-34,5 cm, pH 7, DO 4,12-4,57 mg/L, CO2 5,62-5,99 mg/L, BOD5 2,26-4,12 mg/L, kekerasan 180,0-240,0 mg /L. Karakteristik morfologi udang dari kedua daerah tersebut berbeda (nilai Asymp. Sig < 0,05). Udang dari hilir lebih kecil dari hulu (masing-masing 37,3 mm PK dan 52,0 mm PK). Udang dari hulu menunjukkan beberapa karakteristik yang relatif lebih panjang dibandingkan dengan udang dari hilir yaitu panjang rostrum (167% dan 137%), panjang total (84% dan 72%), panjang standar (140% dan 112%), panjang karpus (21% dan 18%), dan panjang merus (50% dan 30%) dari PK

Abstract

Mangroves are tropical trees that thrive in conditions intolerable to most woody species: saline, coastal waters subjected to relentless tidal fluctuations. Due to their significant carbon sequestration capacity, mangroves serve as a crucial weapon in the battle against climate change, yet they face global threats. By protecting mangrove forests, we can contribute to safeguarding our planet's future.The mangrove forest in Buruk Bakul village exemplifies a well-preserved mangrove ecosystem in Indonesia. Situated along the coast, this forest acts as a natural barrier, protecting the village from coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion. In 2024, the MBKM  Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata) at the University of Riau implemented a project to cultivate and plant 1,000 mangrove trees in Buruk Bakul Village. This initiative aims to restore the mangrove ecosystem, enhance community awareness about environmental conservation, and provide students with practical experience in environmental conservation efforts.Therefore, a collaborative approach involving government agencies, local communities, and various stakeholders is essential to sustainably preserve and manage the mangrove forest in Buruk Bakul village.
