Abstract

The purpose of this study is to implement STEM-integrated PBL based on local wisdom (Gong Buleuh) on sound wave materials and analyze its effect on improving student learning outcomes. The method used in this study is quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. This research involved two classes of XI Science at SMA Negeri 8 Jambi City, each consisting of 30 students. The experimental class used STEM-based integrated PBL based on local wisdom (Gong Buleuh), while the control class used PBL without integration. A pretest and posttest were administered to evaluate students’ learning achievement. After implementation, students in the experimental class demonstrated significantly improved learning outcomes compared to those in the control class. The paired sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 and a large effect size (Cohen's d = 7.76). Furthermore, independent sample t-tests showed significant differences between the experimental class and the control class, with a significance value of 0.000 and a large effect size (Cohen's d = 1.78). These results suggest that incorporating local wisdom and STEM approaches into the PBL model can improve student learning outcomes and have high relevance in efforts to improve the quality of physics education in secondary schools.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) tools integrated with STEM and local content—specifically the cultural practice of Jambi coffee brewing—in enhancing students’ learning outcomes in the physics topic of temperature and heat. The research employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The participants were 11th-grade students from SMA Negeri 11 Muaro Jambi in the 2024/2025 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. A total of 54 students participated, divided evenly into two classes: the experimental class, which was taught using STEM-integrated PjBL tools incorporating local content, and the control class, which was taught using conventional PjBL tools without STEM or local context integration. Both groups underwent pretest and posttest assessments. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests with a significance level of 0.05. The paired t-test results indicated a statistically significant improvement in both classes (p = 0.000). However, the independent sample t-test revealed a significant difference in posttest scores between the two groups (p = 0.011), with the experimental class showing greater gains. These results suggest that the integration of STEM and local cultural context into PjBL can deepen students’ conceptual understanding, enhance engagement, and improve learning outcomes more effectively than PjBL alone. The contextualization of physics content using familiar real-world practices, such as coffee brewing, provides meaningful learning experiences that connect abstract scientific concepts to students' daily lives.

Abstract

Misconceptions experienced by students must be identified, reduced, and remediated so that they do not become obstacles for students in their learning process. This study aims to reduce students' misconceptions about static fluids using interactive media developed using the Nearpod Platform based on Posner's conceptual change theory. The research design used was a one-group pre-test post-test design study, by conducting a pre-test, providing actions or treatments, and post-tests to 31 sample high school students. The test instruments and interactive media were first developed with a fairly strict validation process regarding content, construct, and face. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to measure the effectiveness of the learning platform in reducing misconceptions. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the Nearpod interactive learning platform based on Posner's conceptual change theory can significantly reduce students' misconceptions of the material of hydrostatic pressure and Archimedes' law, with a decrease in the percentage of misconceptions from an average of 34.83% in the pretest to 18.06% in the posttest. Therefore, the Conceptual Change Text strategy through Nearpod media has effectively reduced misconceptions.

Abstract

Barium hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) is a material of significant interest due to its wide range of applications. In this study, we synthesized barium M-hexaferrites (BaFe12-2xCoxZnxO19) powders through the co-precipitation method, starting from BaCO3 and FeCl3.6H2O powders, with Co and Zn powders used as dopant materials. The variations in x values were set at 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1. Our findings indicate that the co-precipitation method is highly effective for synthesizing barium M-hexaferrites (BaFe12-2xCoxZnxO19) nanomaterials, which contain more than 89% iron elements and have an average particle size of 50 nm. The Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) reveal that phase transformations occur at temperatures of 285°C and in the range of 750-840°C. Further analysis using the Rietveld refinement method demonstrates that the barium M-hexaferrite phase begins to form at relatively low temperatures, with the most optimal yield observed at x = 0.4. At temperatures exceeding 740°C, there is a tendency to form a single-phase α-Fe2O3 (hematite). The introduction of Co and Zn as dopant ions results in only minor changes to the lattice parameters of the basic hexagonal crystal structure. This comprehensive study underscores the viability of the co-precipitation method for producing high-quality barium M-hexaferrites and provides valuable insights into the effects of Co and Zn doping on the structural and thermal properties of these materials.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how the process of developing E-Book on Basic Physics material and to find out students' perceptions of E-Books based on scientific approaches on Static and Dynamic Fluid materials. This research design uses a research and development design with a 4D model which consists of four stages; define, design, develop, and disseminate. The data were analysed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative. From 34 respondents in the 2019 class of physics education at Jambi University, more than 50% revealed that basic physics material is difficult to understand. In the Static and Dynamic Fluid material, it has a difficulty percentage of 58%. As many as 94% of students need additional teaching materials and have never used teaching materials based on a scientific approach in the process of basic physics courses. The results of the validation by the experts of materials and media indicated that the E-Book were feasible to be tested with agree criteria. The E-Book trial shows that the overall indicator given based on student perceptions was 52 in the very good category.
